Which North Carolina beach should we vacation at?

I've been to Destin Florida and it was beautiful but now we're going to on vacation a little closer to home. I figure North Carolina is a good spot for nice beaches that isn't terribly far away from home (Ohio). I've been searching on the web but so many names come up. Can anyone help? I want to go somewhere really pretty with preferrably white sands and always something to do whether it's shopping, parks, amusement parks, etc. It will be a vacation for two young people.

3. I'd suggest the Outer Banks is the best as well... guess it's truly a winner.
4. The Outer Banks is your best bet. If you have young people in your party, Nags Head is nice and has a lot of activities. If you like a quiter setting Hatteras Island would be great, less to do, more quiet, but in my mind better!
5. The outer banks, and they have some beautiful golf courses there if you wanna hit up some golf too.
