I heard that australia has alot of nude beaches and nudity on tv, is a family vacation w/kids safe?

1. I have lived in Sydney my whole life and i never hear of anyone going to nude beaches. Sure you can find them if you want but they are definately not in your face. So it shouldn't be an issue in deciding to come. As to nudity on t.v. i think you'll be fine as long as you don't let you kids watch t.v. after 11pm as that is when most of the 'adult ads' begin to air. I would say Australia is pretty kid-safe, where ever you decide to go.
2. Please understand that we are all born with skin! Other countries do not apply anything filthy with the exposure of skin -- it's just skin, no more titillating than an elbow or an ear. Millions of Australian kids (and French kids and British kids and German kids and Spanish kids, etc.,) grow up having seen acres of human skin and are still decent, functioning members of society. (this is within the framework of normal life, by the way -- I am not IN ANY WAY implying you should let your kids watch hardcore adult media!) Please open your mind (it's the only way new ideas can get in) and take your children to experience other places -- you'll all learn a lot.
3. We are the skin cancer capital of the world do you really think we go round exposing our private parts on nudist beaches. When you do come though make sure you slip slap slop some 30 plus sunburn cream on. Also we dont have many Australian shows on we have been taken over by crap American TV.
4. Having lived on both sides of the pond, I have to report I have seen a lot more "skin" in public in the US than I have seen in Australia. There are some beaches in Australia that are isolated where you will see the occassional "foray into nature", and there are a few private facilities featuring "nature", but they are less obvious to the casual observer than the south shore of the Great Salt Lake, and other similar locations throughout the states. On the whole, I would assess the attitudes of Australian's in general (obviously dangerous to generalize...) as less neurotic about sexuality than is the attitude in general in the US. I consider Australia ideal for family trips. Anyone who wants to avoid gratuitous nudity in Australia will find it easy to do. As for TV, really can't comment. I use all my free time on Answers rather than TV. More serious content, and less graphic violence...
5. My Goodness. We are not a country of debauchery you know! Sure, there are nudist beaches here and there but no more than any other country. You really have to look hard to find them as they are few and far between. Normal clothed beaches are the predominant type so I wouldn't worry at all. As for nudity on TV. I don't know what you mean really. We have censorship laws too and I haven't ever seen full frontal nudity in all my 33 years. After about 11pm, there are a few adults only adverts for sex lines etc but I doubt you would let your kids stay up that late anyway. Australia is a great place to visit for a family. We have plenty of child orientated activities and places to go. I am sure you would love it. However we are NOT prudish either...my kids have seen nudity and it hasn't done them any irreversable harm. So I really don't understand your concern but as you are obviously worried about it....let me lay your mind at rest and tell you that whatever you have heard is rubbish!
6. This is true, just know where they are. They have a lot of "normal" beaches as well. Many of their beaches are man made, and very LOVELY.
7. Yes, there are nude beaches but you will only ever come accross them in more quieter places, unfortunatly, the best place to stay safe is where everyone else is! But the good thing about this is that if a beach is not 'nude', it is illegal to be nude on a public beach. I jhave been to many beaches and never bumped into a nude beach, there should also be a sign saying 'Entering nude beach' With TV, we get all the American shows, very few australian shows made in Australia have nudity, only the american shows that air in Australia. It is perfectly safe for kids to be in Australia, but never alone! West Aussie Chick has everything, I agree with everything she said!
8. That makes me laugh. Yes, there are nude beaches, but they're usually fairly inaccessible (the one here is about an hour's drive away). You certainly won't have to avoid them. Nudity on tv? Most of our programming is from the US, with some from the UK. There's not much nudity. I'd be more concerned about TV violence, which isn't policed as strictly. Australia is extremely benign for families.
9. You heard wrong. You could just about count the permitted nude beaches in Australia on the fingers of one hand. The main popular beaches are not nude. What goes on in isolated areas is of course up to the people there at the time, and some beaches are very isolated, e.g. 30 minutes or 3 hours drive over rough country tracks. You will probably not find your way there. As for TV, there might be some after 8.30. This depends on the program and there are warnings given before the start about ratings in any case.
10. Nude beaches? I can quite honestly say that I have never come across one.I've only seen normal beaches. Nudity on television ? Nope.In all my prime time televsion watching,I have never come across anything worse than people in their swimsuits on the beach. Moral of the story? Don't believe everything you hear.I say this not to denigrate you,but some unsuspecting people are told the most absurd myths about Australia. Australia is a perfectly family-friendly holiday destination.I hope that if you come,you have a great time.

Dont know where Laurie B got that info,there are no man made beaches here,but 7,000 natural ones,you could find a nude beach if you are that way inclined,& most of our tv comes from the states,but it is a great place for a family to holiday & very safe,that is if the crocs,spiders,snakes & box jelly fish dont kill you
12. It is not like we all walk around with our clothes off. I dont know where you get your ideas, but you are obviously watching the wrong sorts of TV shows. Our shows have hardly any nudity in them compared to most UK and US ones
