Best place to stay in Queensland?
We're planning a 4 or 5 night holiday in Queensland and wondered where we should go. We like good restaurants and beautiful beaches - but without large crowds. The Gold Coast is bit too touristy for us (and we've been there before). Does anyone have any suggestions?

- Palm Cove, or Trinity Beach - Cairns ! Heaps to do in Cairns, Plam Cove is about a 20 min drive from the city itself. There's always Port Douglas also. http://www.palmcoveaustralia.com/ http://www.palmcove.net/ http://www.palmcove.com/ - - - - http://www.trinitybeachtourism.com.au http://www.trinitybeachclub.com.au - - - - http://www.portdouglaseguide.com or http://www.vcentres.com.au/port-douglas For accommodation in Port Douglas - http://www.portdouglasaccom.com.au - - - - Other things to see in Cairns http://www.tropicalaustralia.com.au/things_to_do_and_see http://www.cairnsvisitorcentre.com http://www.cairnsattractions.com/index.html
- you could try sunshine coast-not as touristy and great beaches alternatly try north like daydream island, great keppel, hayman island etc-try getting to dunk island-thats where the tv show sea patrol is filmed!!!
- hervey bay, on the coast and easy drives to surrounding areas
- Personally, I love the Sunshine Coast but not Noosa. I find Noosa too touristy. Caloundra is my favourite, Kings Beach to be exact.
- Try the Sunshine Coast - miles and miles of excellent beaches, it's not overly touristy like the Gold Coast, and it's not crowded! There are loads of great restaurants, for instance Maroochydore and Mooloolaba have a good selection of them. On top of restaurants and beaches, there are many other activities you can partake in - for example you could visit Australia Zoo, Aussie World, Underwater World, Glasshouse Mountains, rainforests, have a go at some watersports, shopping, etc... - To be honest you cannot get past Noosa. But if you want a little less flash, then go straight to Moollooba! They are both wonderful, great restuarants, excellent beaches etc. both great with kids or without!!!
- Agree with Elizabeth. I like Caloundra and I even made a posting on this weeks ago. Don't do the Gold Coast, it is a tourist trap.
- Townsville is tops!..
- Cairns.
- sunshine coast
