Does anyone know if tail docking is still practiced on some dogs in western australia?

Hi I want to buy a boxer pup. I just cannot imagine a boxer with a tail but have recently found out that docking might have become illegal in Australia. Does anyone know what the story is in Western Australia? PS Please don't give me a lecture on the inhumanity of tail docking i love animals but I believe it has its benefits , not just for looks , but for hygiene and injury reduction.

  1. It's illegal in Australia, so is cropping ears. <<<He's docked - No lectures from me!
  2. No this is NOT illegal! check out this page: www.globaldial.com/~aegis/taildocking.htm
  3. Its illegal now. Im in W.A and the boxers Im seeing now all have their tails and look FANTASTIC. No tail injuries with the ones Ive seen. Ring the boxer asc of w.a and they will tell you what you need to know. Any dog can have tail injuries, my friend accidentally shut his dogs ( staffy cross ) tail in the car door and it broke, so dont worry about tail injuries with the boxer, they are at no higher risk than any other dog and look better with the tail. The boxer website will have pics etc. Enjoy youre pup.
  4. I don't know. It is illegal in the UK. Your best option would be to ask the breeder you are thinking about getting your dog from. I have a couple of friends who are breeders in Australia (not Boxers), if you want I could drop them an email and ask but since it is so close to the Christmas holiday I don't know how soon I'll hear back from them.
  5. I don't like tail docking, but if it is in the dogs standered than yes. If it is a potential showdog. Than it is a must if it is on the standered. I know this sounds dumb, but you need to explain to the vet/ mayor person. Make a petition saying why it should be kept. It might just work.
