Garie Beach

I want to visit the Great Barrier Reef. Can i do a day trip if to the Reef if i stay in Hamilton or Lizard?

island? Which island do u think is better and more secluded. I am there for my honeymoon and visitin australia for the first time. Also let me know if you recommend any accomodation. Another thing.. since i am not much of a water sports person, what would you suggest i do. Visit Brisbane., gold coast and some island around that area or visit the reef?

  1. I have never been to either island but if you look at this site it has information on both and what is available http://www.seethewhitsundays.com/. The Gold Coast has Dreamworld Theme Park - apart from what you would expect at a Theme Park it also offers the opportunity to catch rare Bengal tigers at play on Tiger Island or take a walk on the wild side the Australian Wildlife Experience. Daintree Rainforest is absolutely beautiful. Take a look at this site http://www.daintreerainforest.com/ Brisbane has a casino where you can lose your money. The Sunshine Coast has Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. So many places to see chosing is difficult. I hope you enjoy your trip.
  2. Lizard Island is probably more secluded, but Hamilton is far more popular and caters for honeymoons. There are a few ferry companies that travel around the Whitsundays, you can go on cruises to Whithaven Beach, other islands, the mainland, or out to the reef. You can buy tickets at hotels. You can go for bushwalks on the lslands if you're into that kind of thing, or just walk around the towns and enjoy the weather. Brisbane doesn't have much to do. The Gold Coast has four themeparks that are great fun, whatever you like. Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast is probably pretty busy at the moment, but if you don't mind crowds it's a fun day.
  3. I would suggest you stay with Voyages Resort on Lizard Island. Lizard is a 1 of a kind island and resort. You could stay at Bedarra Island as it is exclusive and a private hideaway. The reef from either island would be enough considering you will be on your honeymoon. Best wishes for your special day.
  4. hello!!!!!i would like 2 suggest sme differnt itinerary..u stay at cairns n then u can visit gr8 barrier reef as an excursion.entire day is spent on the cruise 2 see this reef.approx 99 usd are required for the cruise which includes lunch.nw in the evening cme back 2 brisbane n next day move 2 tangalooma via brisbane.here it wil tke 70 min to reach tangalooma by cruise frm brisbane n this is smething for the 1st time honeymooners...go n njoy over there..for more deatils contact to me ashishjj4u@yahoo.com.all d best!
  5. yes you can ,all you need is a boat
  6. Having been to both, your options are easy. Do you want to stay on hamilton where it is a breeze to get to and also convient to the mainland/ shops, or do you want to stay on lizard which ultimately is more secluded and exclusive but much harded to get to and also a lot more expensive to eat etc. For the most exclusive property on hamilton try the beach club, while it is pricy it is value for money if you want to feel like you have the place to yourself but with the conviences of going out to eat etc if you want. Jetstar (www.jetstar.com.au) airlines fly directly into hamilton island. Also for things to do trhe gold coast is the ultimate destination for fun with 4 theme parks (dreamworld, movieworld, sea world and wet and wild waterpark) it has great but busy beaches, but also has great nightlife and other various attactions to keep you busy Hope this helps
