Really cheap way to get from bangkok to the surfing beaches of Queensland, Australia?

We're backpacker Canadians who are living in Bangkok who want to get to the sunny coast of Queensland, Australia, but have a really small budget. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on cheap ways of transportation. I heard that taking certain kinds of boats will save us a bundle, or types of airfare. Any ideas would be really helpful. 1. check out Tiger Airways. www.tigerairways.com.au Singaporean based budget airline with good aircraft and cheap fares. I know BKK - Sin was about AUD$150 return and I'm guessing they fly Singapore to Gold Coast in Qld and that this would be about AUD $400 return. There is also the budget version of Qantas called Jetstar who I think also fly to/from Bangkok. www.jetstar.com.au Certainly these airlines will be a lot cheaper than the usual commercial airlines.
