How close is the Great Barrier Reef to Sydney Australia?
Could a person who visited Sydney Australia be within any sort of driving distance if they wanted to snorkel/scuba dive the Reef during their trip?

- NO. The Great Barrier Reef is off the coast of Queensland. Considering Brisbane (the capital of the state of Queensland) is over 1000 km (620 miles) from Sydney, and then nearly the same distance yet again to get to anywhere decent to the Great Barrier Reef, I would say... NO - you won't be within driving distance.
- From Sydney, the best way to get to the Great Barrier Reef, would be to fly to Queensland (maybe Cairns, or anywhere in that area). That is a good 2 hour flight! So, by land that would take ages! You could take the train, but that would be an overnight train! There are lots of good airfare deals on the web. Try Virgin Blue or Jetstar!
- 2000 klm drive take 2 days
- Maybe you need a fly till Cairns, where you can enjoy what are you loking for or Sidney-Cairns whit car you need 2 days....but you don'like Ningaloo Reef about W.A......
- i don't think so, yoy need to fly for a couple of hours first. then you need to arrange everything you want to do up there!
- There is good scuba and snorkel diving in Sydney but it is not coral reef stuff. Try Googling "scuba in Sydney" and see what comes up.
- Sydney is *nowhere* near the Great Barrier Reef! If you're prepared to drive for nearly two-and-a-half days, then perhaps you could drive to a location near the Great Barrier Reef... Having said that, there are some great diving spots around Sydney, and there are many dive schools within Sydney who can show you where you can go diving around Sydney.
