Should my husband get rid of his Hummer H-2?
I purchased my husband his car for Valentine's Day because #1 I think it's a very manly car, #2 we needed something to pull a 30 ft boat & #3 because of all the hurricanes (we live in Miami, FL) the streets constantly get flooded & the only people you see able to get around after a storm are usually in a big suv or truck. Gas prices are ridiculous & every one's going "green" I have started looking around to purchase a deeded dock space possibly in Miami Beach or Aventura for the boat. Now I'm telling him that he should get rid of his car & we'll get him someting classier like a 750 or an SL55 (some thing along those lines). Especially since we really won't need his H2 if we get a dock space for the boat. Of course he does not agree with me & says it's very comfortable for him & the family (our family consists of my husband, our 8 & 4 yr old daughters & of course myself). Please advise on what you think, maybe some of your comments & ideas will knock some sense into him. Thnx!

- more room in an expedition EL. less gas, too. just something to think on...
- Too much truck for such a small family. If you had 3 kids or even 4 I would say keep it. But for 4 people, there are smaller more economical SUV's out there that would transport you family better and be cheaper. I would look at the Toyota line of SUV's they are very economical and very spacious. I also think they are a way more classic car then the H-2. they also offer a quieter ride.
- A manly man doesnt need a hummer to be manly...but anyway, yeah you should have never bought one of those tanks...they are terrible for the environment, a death trap for anyone unlucky enough to be victim of the owners bad driving, and they are ugly as heck to boot!! As my ex would have said had hummers been around when I was dating her "What is he compensating for by driving that?"
- I could get by on much less, and just as a matter of principal I would get rid of it, when everyone starts not buying things they don't need the prices will have to come down, if they never sold another Hummer they would have to practically give them away. Haven't you noticed that vehicles have come down an average of $8,000.00 dollars just to get rid of the gas hogs, personally what good is it if you can't afford to drive it. Most people would not drive my truck because of the way it looks, but it's paid for and it runs well, and there is nothing on it I can't fix because it is old enough to not have any computerized anything on it, it only has electronic ignition, thats it, and I am very happy not to owe anyone anything!
- tell him if he wants to keep it he has to pay for all the gas and that he needs to use money that is not for paying bills or things like that
- i don't know much about hummers, but there's no shortage (especially if you ask avation engineers who repair prop planes [same engine concept as a car prop turns not the wheels] efficency in an aircraft is a saftey issue [you run out of fuel you're rooted]) of people interested in keeping the same engines and making then run more efficently... best thing to do is keep it... and maybe help him get interested in mechanics and fix it up as a hobby... then again this is sorta the wrong crowd for putting the effort in to make something good enough kick ass, use less fuel, cost less $ to run and more time...
- get a suburban or a tahoe in ur case get a denali cuz u can afford it
- Get him a Range Rover. Towing Capacity is good and classy, bettre mileage. If he doesn't like that one try the Mercedes Gl.
- Research a 2007 or 2008 Ford Expedition. I would recommend a 2008 Expedition because it might have an optional diesel which gives you better gas mileage along with more power and puts less stress on the engine, which definitely means better reliability. I don't see why every car should just be a diesel. It will only help the environment, your piggy bank, and will give you that extra power you've always wanted
