What are some good beaches in California Bay Area?

A bunch of friends and I are planning to go down to the Santa Cruz area or anywhere in Bay Area (south of SF and maybe closest to San Jose) for a day at the beach. What beaches are good for just hanging out and maybe starting a little bonfire?

1. Half Moon Bay beach last for 6 miles long, and there are horse riding, surfing, golf court, boating...
2. in my opinion, half moon bay is the best
3. Dont go to Half Moon Bay. The weather is poor. The weather is better in Santa Cruz as the coast line here goes inland a bit giving you a better chance of getting out of the fog bank. I prefer any beach far away from the Board Walk as it can get crowded.
4. Lots of beaches between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. Drive along the coast and pick one.
