Garie Beach

What are some good beaches for swimming in California?

I live in Omaha, NE and my family is going on a vacation in California. As you might have guessed, because I live in Nebraska, miles away from the nearest ocean, I have never seen an ocean in my whole life. So I am very excited to go to California! I also really want to swim in the ocean, so what are some good beaches for swimming in California? Thanks!

  1. try going to half moon bay! its overwhelmingly beautiful, and there's horseback riding near by too, if you're into that. there won't be as many people there as in santa cruz, so you can actually "swim" (but be really careful, since the waves can get strong sometimes!) have fun! :)
  2. That is so cool! Well you are in for an interesting day then! A couple things to know about the beach 1.salt water tastes gross and hurts to get up the nose, so be warned. 2.If you see flags with a big black dot, do not swim in the water….they are surfing areas. Also, do not swim in an area with surfers! 3.Bring a hoodie, it can get chilly by the water! I would say to swim at Hermosa Beach (pretty close to LAX airport) but start in Manhattan Beach. Park in the neighborhoods and walk down to the beach because parking is hard to come by in the south bay area. Or bring lots and lots of quarters! It’s a hilly area so don’t be surprised for the walk back to the car will be uphill. Hermosa is a popular beach area known for volleyball tournaments. Manhattan Beach has surfing and little surf shops in case you get the itch and want to try it (about $30 to rent a surfboard for the day…get a leash too!)
