What is that red fruit that grows on California beaches?
There's this ground cover that grows in the sand in southern California beaches. It has waxy, heart-shaped leaves and these red fruits the size of a quarter. They are sweet and tart, and contain a white, latex-like sap. Anyone know what they're called? Sorry, nice try. They're not tomatoes.

- Tomatoes?
- It is probably the Beach Strawberry also called Sand Strawberry, "Fragaria chiloensis". http://calphotos.berkeley.edu/cgi/img_query?query_src=photos_index&enlarge=0000+0000+0905+1120 http://calphotos.berkeley.edu/cgi/img_query?query_src=photos_index&where-lifeform=any&rel-taxon=contains&where-taxon=Fragaria+chiloensis&rel-namesoup=matchphrase&where-namesoup=&rel-location=matchphrase&where-location=&rel-county=eq&where-county=any&rel-state=eq&where-state=any&rel-country=eq&where-country=any&where-collectn=any&rel-photographer=contains&where-photographer=&rel-kwid=equals&where-kwid=&max_rows=24
