Will The Florida Gulf Coast Be RUINED By The Oil Spill?

I am planning on moving to the Tampa Bay/ St. Petersburg area of Florida after college. I'm kinda upset now because a huge part of wanting to moving to Florida is to be near the beautiful beaches Florida has to offer. Will the oil stain the white sand beaches brown or whatever color the oil is? If so, will it ever return to being its crisp clean white it is now? (I haven't been to the florida gulf coast yet, and really want to-a friend of mine just moved to the same area and I'm going to visit him sometime soon)

  1. well it is a possibility i mean no one has been able to plug it but i guess we'll have to wait and see
  2. Well i really don't think that the oil spill will affect Tampa Bay because of how far away it is
  3. ..............The Exxon Valdez is still staining the coast of Alaska after 20 years....... this spill is 100 times bigger and no end in site,,,I would say the west coast of Florida is going to be violated..... and once the oil hits the gulf stream...... and it will..... It will ride all the way up to the Carolina's before crossing the Atlantic to the Emerald Isles
  4. The sand that the oil touches will be scooped up and disposed of, perhaps in a landfill, perhaps in an incinerator so yes the sand will be stained but that stained sand would be removed as long as someone is paying the people to pick up the tarballs.
