What do you consider to be the ‘best of the best’ food and wine experiences in Western Australia?

Kate Lamont is an operating partner in the Lamont family business. Kate and her sister Fiona Lamont personally oversee a wine and food business that encompasses a 10,000 case winery, sourcing grapes from 3 viticultural regions (Swan Valley, Margaret River and Frankland River), two cellar doors (Margaret River and Swan Valley) a CBD restaurant (East Perth), and a beautiful lakeside winery restaurant at Yallingup (Margaret River wine region). Ms Lamont has more than two decades of experience in the food and wine tourism industry and she is the current Chairman of Tourism Western Australia. She would love to know what you have found to be the best food and wine experiences across Western Australia to try and entice more visitors to come and unlock the world class range of food and wine in WA.

  1. When we are in the city we always head to the Witch's Cauldron for garlic prawns! Yum! I have fond memories of Leeuwin Estate in Margaret River - the restaurant there is lovely and the accompanying wines really make the meal. I went there with my family once and would definitely go back. I also love going to Fremantle and pigging out on fresh seafood at Cicerellos the atmosphere is cheerful and the food is always great.
  2. A sunny day at Heathcote, eating at the beautiful "blue water bar and grill" overlooking the Swan River. Breakfast at Coco's (South Perth - not a buffet in site. The best breakfasts are A la Carte. Fish and Chips at Fremantle, out of the box or paper. You are either a Cicerellos person or a Kailis bros person. However I recently had to switch alliances from Kailis to Cicerellos because Kailis does not allow dogs to sit in its outdoor area, and Cicerellos does. Boycott places that discriminate against well behaved pets. (there are heaps of pet discriminators in the Margaret river area - proprieters take note)
  3. One of my happiest memories would have to be a day spent with friends touring the Margaret River wine region with Taste the South wine tours. Our host, Nat was surely one of the best examples of the 'bright and bubbly Aussie chick' I've ever met, we saw some beautiful countryside, tasted some fantastic wine, ate at an awesome cafe in the bush called Goanna Gallery and at the end of the day watched the sunset over Yallingup beach with some local wine and cheese! It was almost too good! I can't wait to do it all over again!
  4. semillon chardonnay put out by riverina thats the wine i would personally suggest.
  5. The Little Creatures Brewery in Fremantle is fantastic! There is no where else like it in Australia. Eagle Vale wines in Marg River is run by an eccentric French man and was just a hoot! Wines were some of the best we had.
