What are the best beaches in North and South Carolina?

I like a balance between things to do, places to eat, shops and nice beaches. Nags Head is nice, but I think Myrtle is a little bit too much as far as tourism. I'd like to catch some waves, relax, eat good food, and maybe catch some night life.

2. I agree that Myrtle is overboard.. go to Carolina beach or Wrightsville beach, both outside of Wilmington, NC.. Much better people hang out there and there is still plenty to do.
