Bondi or Coogee Beach?
Next semester I'm going to be studying at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, and I can either be accommodated at Bondi Beach or Coogee Beach. I was wondering if you had been, what your opinions are of both, and which one should I choose in the end? I just wanted to get some general opinions, Thanks!

- I worked at UNSW for three months earlier this year. We loved living in Bondi but were lucky enough to find a fabulous apartment reasonably priced. It is a lot further away than Coogee though. We preferred the actual beach at Bondi and loved all the shops and places to eat. Coogee is nice too but we preferred Bondi. We were living at the Southern end, near Tamaramma. At first I got a bus up Bondi Road to Bondi Junction, a busy shopping centre and major transport hub. Bondi Road is very busy most of the time and the short trip takes half an hour to get up the hill. Then I caught another bus to UNSW Kensington campus. The total trip to UNSW takes about 45 minutes to an hour. Sydney does not have an integrated transport ticketing system. So you have to pay for every time you change buses. I bought a Red Zone three month ticket. That allowed me to hop on and off any bus or train, right into the city and in most of the eastern half of Sydney. I found I could walk to Bronte in 20 minutes along the cliff top and then either walk up the big hill or catch a bus up to to St Catherine's school bus stop, to pick up a bus to UNSW. This was about the same time but was much more pleasant. I guess that a bus to Coogee would take about 15 minutes by comparison. Both places are lovely, especially if you are close to the beach. We just love Bondi more. Cheers, Geoff
- Hi there Transport would most certainly be much quicker from Coogee V's Bondi. Coogee and Bondi are both back packer havens so during the summer months, particularly in the evenings it can be a bit noisy and loud! Bondi tends to be more touristy all together where as Coogee is much more family oriented in the day. Both places have good nightlife and lots of restaurants and cafe. I'd say Bondi is more hip and fashionable and certainly where the gorgeous people hang out. Property prices and rent is likely to be cheaper in Coogee than Bondi. Either way, you can't go wrong. Beach life is just fantastic and you will love it. I'd say your decision needs to be based on ease of transport (Coogee) or more hip and happening (Bondi) Hope that helps! - I've got a couple friends that live at Coogee beach, and I can tell you from firsthand experience that it's a lot less crowded. Especially in the summer. Bondi is a great beach to swim and sunbathe at, and since I never swam at Coogee, I couldn't compare the two. I can say that it was much easier to get to the nearest bar from Coogee. If you're looking to really go to a great beach, check out Manly. I would have to recommend Coogee if you have to live there, as it's much easier to get to and less crowded/traffic.
