Can anyone recommend a location and hotel for a beach holiday in Portugal?

  1. ALGARVE DA BEST
  2. Go to the Algarve and rent a villa. Carveiro is a nice resort. Sea is cold though (Atlantic Ocean).
  3. Algarve is hateful and becoming just like the costas in spain. look up Sintra it is where all the Portuguese go. if you must go to the South coast go to Sagres right on the far western tip and is stilll fairly unspoiled.
  4. Miroubel Apartments, Villamoura, the Algarve.
  5. montegordo, algarve. is also near spain if you want to visit.
  6. Porto Covo (in Alentejo, south of Lisbon) Very, very, very, very beautiful and special. Just check some pictures: http://www.algo.online.pt/time%20out/porto_covo.htm Cheap hotels. For ex: http://www.hotelportocovo.com/ You won't forget this place...
  7. The most popular resort would be the Algarve as it has some great beaches and good hotels. See these
  8. Praia da Rocha IS a gorgeous white pearl in the Algarve! It is one of the best known and beautiful beaches in Portugal. http://family.webshots.com/album/69875624jNefMd The beach itself is long and wide, an expanse of fine sand punctuated by huge boulders which give the beach its name (Rocha). Along Praia da Rocha, from the Miradouro area (scenic viewpoint) to the towering Forte de Santa Catarina, near the river Arade and the Marina, a wooden deck (calçadão) has been built. The calçadão is perfect for sunbathers to access different parts of the beach as well as for long walks and jogs along the beach. Spread out along the beach, there are smart restaurants that make it convenient to enjoy meals or for just reading and watching sunsets! An avenue runs along the seafront at Praia da Rocha with hotels, bars, open-air cafés, excellent restaurants, discotheques, and a casino with nightly entertainment. Parts of this avenue (Avenida Tomás Cabreira) was recently modernised and pedestrianised and now offers a new stylish tourist office as well as a bureau de change. The avenue has a number of viewing points offering panoramic views of the River Arade estuary and the coast line with its lighthouse and rock formations. To the North-West, the Monchique mountains are visible. Praia da Rocha beach is easily accessible by a road from the city of Portimão and there are organised parking areas near the beach and marina. The beach is supervised during the bathing season (June to October). Portimão is a hub for entertainment and the de facto cultural capital of the Algarve. In conclusion the place oozes beauty, style, convenience and relaxation. You really have everything for a great holiday when you arrive here!
  9. Definitely go to the algarve. My family have a home there and we have been going there for over 20 years. I would not recommend Praia da Rocha, over the years it has turned into something of a butlins abroad and is full to the brim with tourists. Sagres, is a beautiful place near the monchique mountains (our place is close to there). and it is worth looking into the monchique mountain area - but you would have to have a car to get to beaches and towns. But if you want a good beach, we frequent Alvor, which is a beautiful little place in between Portimao and lagos. It has lovely beaches (which are beautiful for early morning walks and provide wonderful beach bars for a well earned breakfast!) and the town has two long roads full of bars and restaurants as well as a nice section by the harbour. but what is great is that off these main roads you can still discover the original fishing town itself and although it is a more and more popular place, they cannot develop it any further so it remains unspoilt. places like praia de rocha have been turned into a tourist trap, and portimao is run-down. if you want to go near a big city, go nearer to Lagos which is much more beautiful whilst keeping the portuguese feel. Its probably better to rent a villa for a more relaxed and authentic stay, but there are plenty of hotels in the Alvor area. check out this site for info. http://www.portugal-info.net/algarve/alvor.htm good luck deciding, this is just all my opinion after many happy years visiting portugal. i hope you love it as much as we do.
