  1. If you want to party, the big cities would be good.Sydney and Melbourne in particular are where lots of things are at. The Great Ocean Road drive near Melbourne is very scenic and has landforms such as the twelve apostles.
  2. As you are young and like the party scene then I would suggest: Sydney for sure as there are amazing bars, clubs and shopping malls. Also do take a trip to Bondi, Manley beach and also do a trip to the Blue Mountains if you want scenery. Brisbane - Nice city once again. Maybe drive from Brisbane up the Gold Coast. Take a visit to the late Steve Irwin's zoo its fab and also if you like theme parks then there is Dreamworld and a water park. Drive up to Cairns. Do a quicksilver catamaran trip to the barrier reef. Its awesome. Cape Tribulation and Mossman Gorge is also great. I did a trip with my family and loved it. WE did Sydney, Melbourne, Ayers Rock, Brisbane and Cairns.
  3. You could drive the Great Ocean Road which is a 243km drive of beach, quiet nice if you like beaches (located in Victoria about 1.5 hours from Melbourne.) Why don't you check out Surfers Paradise, quiet touristy but it is nice there. (Located Gold coast, Queensland) From surfers you can go to the Theme parks there (Dream world, Wet N' Wild, movie world to name a few) Yes definitely Sydney and Melbourne. There is so much you could do there. You could go see the Sydney harbor and opera house. You could go to Sydney tower (also known as Center point tower) Trust me there is alot you could do in these two places. You could go to the Blue Mountains (so beautiful (sorry I had to add that in)). But also go to Sydney and Melbourne if you are looking to party, shop, e.c.t. I would highly recommend it. By the way when you get to hotels/hostels/backpacker living (where ever you are staying) there should be brochures about day trips you can take and destinations you can go see.
  4. Queensland (http://www.sunloverholidays.com.au/, http://www.queenslandholidays.com.au/) Brisbane / Gold Coast (~ 1 hour south of Brisbane) / Sunshine Coast (~1 hour north of Brisbane) Beaches on both coasts, lots of music / parties etc... There are lots of outdoor areas such as Roma St Parklands, Southbank Parklands, two Botanical gardens. Also try the City Cats (a type of ferry) There are the "World" theme parks down the coast (movie, sea and dream as well as waterparks) Behind the Gold Coast is the Lamington National Park and you can stay at Binna Burra or O’Reilly’s There is also The Natural Arch and Mt Tamborine. Fraser Island. Hervey Island during whale watching season. You've got the Great Barrier Reef of course. And all the islands (Dunk, Hayman, Whitsunday, Herron etc) and areas along the way or near by. In Cairns try Kuranda, the Atherton Tablelands (including the lava tubes), NSW Sydney including Bondi Beach and Manly (catch a ferry there) Just west of Sydney are the Blue Mtns - just don't get lost!(http://www.visitbluemountains.com.au/). Also try the Jenolan Caves Broken Hill is not a party place but is outback and has some unique art... Tasmania (http://www.discovertasmania.com/) is a natural beauty. Visit Victoria (http://www.visitvictoria.com/) Perth is lovely - try Rottnest Island and Fremantle. Adelaide has a large winery distric dear by (don't drink and drive!) Should go up the centre including Alice Springs. Alice Springs Dessert Park (http://www.alicespringsdesertpark.com.au/) Australia (http://www.touristaustralia.com.au/) Australia (http://www.australia.com/) Australia (http://www.tourism.australia.com/)
  5. Queensland is lovely!
  6. The Gold Coast is always in party mode. When travelling North ,Airlie beach the gateway to the whitsunday islands is a must .Gosh Iv'e done a lot of travel around Australia but never heard of Gladstone being a great must go to place. Perhaps I've missed that some how. Forget about the parties for a while but visit some very interesting out back pubs and amazing scenery then there are lots of places in The Northern Territory. The daly Waters pub has some cards underwear all sorts of attire hung up from travellers around the world. The Kimberlies are a incredible experience down to Broome stay away from the rivers up there the crocs are hungry but with only 6 weeks you may not have time to go to the Northern Territory. so if not plan a come back as that is one of the places in this world of a must do before I die things. When in brisbane the Gold and Sunshine coasts there is all the hinterland and National parks up the back. The Glass house mountains are worth a look and there is some beautiful villages through there. And not forgetting before you reach Queensland there is Byron Bay and a day trip to Nimbin is something real different. Have a great trip and if you are looking for cheap meals try places like bowls clubs or rugby clubs just ask in the town your in what's on offer. You will pick up lots of info on your travel just by pulling into the rest areas and get talking to people that's if you have a car.
  7. I didn't go to the norm. I went to Alice Springs, Darwin, and then Car ins. Alice Springs is a small city and a few very bummy hours away from Ayres Rock...a very fun climb. Darwin was pretty cool, massive rainforest. Carins was very nice, has a massive public pool...I mean HUGE. I went for 17 days and it was awesome. I am looking to go back to see Syndey and Melbourne.
  8. I live in Sydney and the most "exicitement" is in Sydney and Melbourne. Cheers help http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aps_OKmZYwVNSPhf1KjzlYYcCnRG;_ylv=3?qid=20091023164254AA3plDc
  9. For 6 weeks you'll be sticking to the East Coast.... Gladstone? I think someone was pulling your leg there! If you're driving the stick to the coast and hit Cairns (the reef), Airlie Beach (reef/islands/partying), Townsville/Magnetic Island, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast (I'd personally avoid this though, but there is partying to be done), Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour/Sawtell/Bellingen, Bondi.
  10. Yep, GBR is a must. Uhmm I have been to Queensland a fair few times and never heard of Gladstone? Also in Queensland, I suggest visiting Cairns and Port Douglas which is north of cairns and Kuranda. If you wanna leave the East coast, go to Perth or Central aus where Uluru, Alice Springs etc are. But be warned, you will want to fly there!! It's a two hour flight from Brisbane to cairns, two hour flight from brissi to Melbourne. Lots of people don't realise how bIg Australia is!! For partying in QLD, Gold Coast is a must although it's crazy there, be prepared for big crowds. Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach are most popular but best. Sunshine Coast is quiter but just as good in my opinion. Visit Noosa, Maloolaba, Maroochydoore, Alexandra Heads. Good tourists attractions on the sunshine like Australia Zoo. In NSW, Sydney for sure. I love Darling Harbour. Maybe Canberra. In VIC, Melbourne and maybe Geelong and surf towns like Torquay. I gotta say in all my travels, Melbourne is one of my favourite cities in the world.
  11. Australia is huge but in 6 weeks you can do the east coast. I would try to plan a trip between Sydney and Cairns. The best places to stop along that coast are (from south to north) Sydney, Byron Bay, Noosa, Fraser Island (from Hervey Bay), Whitsundays (from Airlie Beach), Magnetic Island (from Townsville), Mission Beach, and Cairns. They are all backpacker spots with parties and there is also some good scenery, particularly up north between Townsville and Cairns, and along the coast north of Cairns. There is heaps to do around Cairns, like Kuranda, Daintree rainforests, Port Douglas, all beautiful places. Cairns and Port Douglas are the best places in Australia for a trip to the Great Barrier Reef, because the reef is closer to the mainland and the trips are much cheaper than down south. It's a great trip, very popular with backpackers. I drive that coast often and i really enjoy it.
  12. Well Bondi is ok but Surfers is better Gladstone is a mining town The highway that runs down the east coast (Pacific H'way) runs through some really scenic country with plenty of places to spend the day sightseeing. Victoria is a scenic state Tasmania is very scenic and mountainy so travel there takes longer than in other states March is the start of Autumn here so I would leave the southern states till then as they are prettier then. Because of the size the northern states are warmer than the southern and Tasmania can be quite cool in Autumn. I live in Tasmania but have lived in both Queensland and New South Wales so I hope this helps. Plan well as six weeks is not really enough time to see it all.
