1. The best beaches is somebody's opinion rather than fact. Here are MY OPINIONS on the best. It may not be your best, but they are MINE!: 1. Pismo/Grover Beach 2. Santa Monica 3. Huntington Beach 4. San Diego 5. Santa Barbara
2. There are no more good and clean beaches in So Cal any more. Go up toward Pismo for fun and sand dunes and beach camping. LA beaches are big and fun but the water is gross. Malibu is small and trendy - you'll need to find a local spot to get to or you'll never be able to park. Huntington Beach / Bolsa Chica is great for big fires (they have pits) and a long day camp-out. Dana Point is great for boating and nicer hotels (the Ritz down that way is fabulous). For an eclectic view go to the famous Venice beach for crazy cheap shopping and all kinds of stuff going on.... but stay out of the water and even the sand is dirt there.

4. I have never been to there but I have asked this same questions to some of my friends and all of their ranking was almost same. According to my friends opinion the top five Southern California popular beaches based on activities and qualities are: 1. Santa Monica State Beach: The beach is located south of the Santa Monica pier.It's wide and sandy beaches is the best place for sunning, swimming and enjoying the Southern California beach scene. 2. Huntington Beach: One of the best southern california beach that are suitable for surfers is Huntington Beach. This beach is famous the yearly huge surfing competitions. 3. Malibu: This is an another very good surfing beaches in Southern California.This beach is known for its 3 to 5 foot steady waves. 4. Venice City Beach: This is the best beach for people wathcing. 5. Redondo Beach: This beach offers various activities. There are top notch restaurants, shops and fishing spots.There is even dancing at night for the young people.
