- Bondi Beach is good for beginner surfers. You cant come to Sydney without seeing Bondi lol!! Also the beaches around Cronulla are great for surfing and not as busy as the others. Beaches in Cronulla are: North Cronulla, South Cronulla, Wanda and Elourea Beach. Also I suggest a visit to the Gold Coast. It is halfway between Sydney and Cairns. You can fly there from Sydney with Jet Star or Virgin Blue for less than AU$100 one way. There is heaps to do on the Gold Coast you will love it!!
- The best surfing beach in Sydney is probably North Steyne which is just north of Manly. The waves there hold up longer than most beaches in Sydney and there are several places that you can learn to surf in Manly itself. Quite apart from that, Manly is a short ferry trip across the harbour, which is the best way to see... the harbour.
- I have been to North Steyne Beach in Manly ( the real Manly Beach is the one near where the ferries come in) heaps times, and i have seen pretty good waves out there. A lot of people surf at North Steyne beach, I don't surf but like I said there are a lot of people surfing there.
- Bondi Beach
- mittagong beach
- Manly is the winner! catch a ferry across Sydney harbour from Circular Quay to Manly FANTASTIC! Manly surfing history http://www.visitmanly.com.au/html/surfing_manly.html
- Bronte is my personal fave Clovelley for snorkelling
- Bondi is good.... IF YOU WANT A GREAT WHITE TO EAT YOU!! Only kidding Avalon a little up of bondi is a great beach. Basically any beach past sydney heading up north towards QLD is a good beach.... Different people have different opinions but yeah good luck Somebody mentioned cronulla. Cronulla beach is rather oily i ahve found. i always tend to come out sticky. Its a common pass for air traffic. Oh and a shark is always spotted there at least every few weeks but you have no worries unless you plan to go further out. Actually most of the sharks are spotted at wanda beach which is about 1.5km north of cronulla beach. You metioned you wanted to try surfing. Head for the beaches which are more suited to beginners. Cronulla is fairy good for beginners...oh i kinda exagerrated the shark think but i thought you might like to know as you are new to sydney.
- Bondi and Tamarama beach are sister beaches right next to eachother.. Bondi has a Surf school were you can learn to surf.. Always lots of people learning to surf i think this is the best.. Still visit the other beachs youve mentioned there great. Love tamarama small but beautiful.
