I need help with a fictional Australian made movie that has references to historical disasters in it.?

I don't think it was ever shown on big screen. I saw part of it in the '80s I think. A girl keeps almost meeting a man but the scene always then becomes that of a well known disaster. eg. when on Bondi Beach, the scene becomes that of Black Sunday when 38 people drowned. The final scene she is on the train and they finally touch (maybe kiss?) and the scene becomes the Granville train crash.
