Where can we go in New York State for a beach holiday?

We are returning to New York from England for the third time next year and would love to combine our city holiday with a beach and some sun! Looking to travel approx end of august/early sept and spend 10 days in Manhattan and 4 days on a beach somewhere. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

1. Look at the New Jersey Shore. Places like: Seaside Heights Long Beach Island Wildwood even Atlantic City if you want to do some gambling.
2. Coney Island, Jones Beach, the Hamptons.
3. The only ocean beaches in NYS are on the south shore of Long Island and there are some very beautiful beaches there. There are also some excellent vineyards to explore and quite a few historic sites. There is also fishing, horseback riding, golf, and a mile long list of other things in addition to the sun and beach.
