Does anyone know of any California beaches that you can just crash on?

I am planning a road trip with some friends this summer including a friend from out of the country. We want to find some sweet places to visit and stay over night for little to no money. Any recommendations as far as places that will let you sleep on the beach or just any good places to see in general? Any secret secluded spots? Thanks :)

2. Yes Cali has TONS of free places you can crash. Are you going to be going to NorCal or SoCal???? I live in NorCal and I know there are a few beaches like Blues Beach in West Port( North of Fort bragg) were you can sleep on the beach. If you are a female I would sleep in a car with the windows and doors LOCKED. Socal Im not sure if they have many free places, Socal is up tight and you may find your slef in jail if they spot you sleeping on a beach. Cali is really $$$$ Good luck!
3. Technically, according to the CA Chamber of Commerce it is illegal to sleep on "most" of the beaches. There are many camp grounds on the beach. You can find information for many of them here: http://www.totalescape.com/active/campstuff/campcoast.html In general SoCal is probably a little more strict than NorCal.
