- Do the opera house, darling harbour, bridge climb and Sydney harbour on the same day. Do the morning bridge climb, then walk across the bridge to the opera house, you can see the harbour from the opera house. Then catch a ferry (?) to Darling harbour. On the 2nd day do the blue mountains (takes a while to get there). You may see ads about getting there by train. But do NOT do this. Cityrail (Sydney train service) is terrible. The trains are disgusting, dirty, gross and just plain ew! They are NEVER on time and the tickets are expensive. $I.20 for one stop as a child?! I would recommend hiring a car. On the half day go to Bondi. Go on a week day otherwise you won't be able to move! Also, get there earlier before everyone comes. There is a bus service, but again the public transport is terrible. Hire a car! Hope you have a great time down under(:
- You'll need a whole day to visit Blue Mountain. Visit Opera house Darling Harbor & climb the bridge in a day, later relax at Bondi. You have to book for bridge climbing before hand though. Have fun.
- In regards to poppincorn's comment.. I agree with organising your itinerary into days but on day 1. you can walk from the opera house to darling harbour, and you'll get some good site seeing done on the way.. and day 2. catch the train. It might be a little more pricey ($24.40 before 9am, $17 after) it will save you the hassle of driving. if you drive chances are you will get caught in peak hour traffic and pay more in petrol.
- On a short trip to Sydney: the Number ONE thing to do is to catch a ferry to Manly from Circular Quay (Circular Quay can't be missed; it is the frontage to the harbour in the Sydney Central Business District).. The ferry trip to Manly is CHEAP (part of the commuter public transport network); interesting (Goes through the best part of one of the best harbours in the world), and a good half-day excursion. From the ferry, it is an easy walk through the "Corso" (Pedestrian Mall) to Manly Beach ((If you only visit one Sydney beach, this is as good as any). In May, it will be too cold to swim; but take a walk along the promenade. Then visit one of the fish and chip shops near the beach end of the Corso, for a darn good feed. Then back to the ferry terminal, for the return to Sydney. Spend the afternoon going around the Quay to the Opera House, and possibly through the Botanical Gardens, if that is your interest. Next day, again from the CBD, find your way onto the Harbour Bridge (ASK; or find the access steps from MAcquireStreet onto the Cahill Expressway). The walk across the bridge is surprisingly time consuming; and not all that interesting. Instead, climb the south pylon (small fee) for a terrific view. There IS a commercial 'bridge climb' organisation that is even more spectacular (you climb right over the arch), but is expensive and takes a large section out of your day). Want to see Australian (and other country's) animals? Visit Taronga Park Zoo. Another ferry ride from Circular Quay). Or visit Bondi Beach (Iconic; but Manly Beach is just as good). Catch the train to Bondi Junction (Very large shopping mall there, if that takes your fancy). Then use initiative to find a bus to take you to Bondi Beach (a couple of suburbs away). More time to spare (assuming you're centred in central Sydney): Visit the Australian Museum; the Art Gallery (all in easy walking distance), or catch the Monorail to Darling Harbour for some unapologetic kitsch. The Aquarium(near Darling Harbour) is also very good. Nearby, you could visit the Maritime Museum, to see the Spirit of Australia; holder of the world water speed record since 1972. At night; you should find something of interest on at the Opera House. One warning: Apart from the Opera House area; the CBD is dead at night. You should have no trouble filling in 3 days. The Blue Mountains would be nice; but it is a long day; with a 2 hour ttripthere and back.
- I would do the harbour and the city centre the first day, even though you only have a 1/2 day there. Opera House, bridge climb, Sydney Botanical Gardens, Woolloomooloo and Kings Cross. The second day i'd go to Blue Mountains in the morning to make sure that's done and you have enough time for it. If you are back from there in the late afternoon, you still have time to wander around in Sydney. I would go to the Rocks, Darling Habrour, and then south from the Circular Quay area along George Street, there are some nice quarters with Spanish restaurants, and further south is Chinatown, where i like Paddington Markets. The third day i would do Bondi Beach, and other things in eastern suburbs like Oxford Street in Paddington, and Centennial Park. Would you get any spare time i would also catch the ferry across the harbour (from Circular Quay) to Manly, and go to Taronga Zoo and see Australian animals + there are some great views over the harbour.
