Garie Beach

best place to live in sydney?

ok here's the story: i'm moving to sydney in january for 10 months. my work is sending me up there and they will be paying my rent for me. unfortunately, work is in hurstville and the two times i've been up there...frankly, it's a hole. the time it takes to get to work each day isn't a big factor as it currently takes me an hour to do so here in melbourne. i want to live near a nice beach and good public transport. i've been thinking about bondi because it's on the same train line, but i've heard good things about coogee. thoughts?

  1. Go Coogee I'd say. If you got the money go north shore (milsons point etc.) but yeah. Even places like Glebe are fairly close. A really nice, quiet place is Burwood, a bit away from the beaches but lovely.
  2. Coogee to Hurstville on public transport is a big No-No. If you want to consider Coogee, consider bringing or buying a car. Bondi isn't much better, since the train line stops way short of Bondi Beach, and you have to pay extra to use the bus to get to the station. Cronulla would probably be a good option. It's on the same train line as Hurstville (albeit only with a half hourly service, like most of Sydney). The local area is not especially hilly so you can chain a pushbike up at the station and not stink up the train. Shopping is no hassle at Miranda. The beaches are beautiful. And it's coming up to three years since the last riot :-) LOL!
