Great Barrier Reef? Anyone been there? How is it?

How is the great barrier reef? i mean what makes it so unique and famous? What's to see there? is there any famous landforms or anything? Please fill me in, i'd like to go there but i don't want to waste my money on something that isn't interesting, Please don't type 'Google it' or 'Find out yourself' because that' exactly why i put my question up on here

1. The Great Barrier Reef IS the famous "landform".It runs up the east coast of Australia. It is so large, it can be seen from space. I have been there and personally, though it is a magnificent place, Iwould skip it and head for the Ningaloo Reef off the coast of Western Australia. It is no where near as big as the GBR, but it is largely untouched and much less crowded!! Ningaloo Reef is where you can swim with the Whale Sharks. The only thing I didn't like obout the GBR is the fact that you go out on snorkelling tours with about 200 other people and that just doesn't do it for me. But it obviously suits a lot of people.
