How far is the nearest beach from Orange or Beaumont Texas?
I am possibly moving to either Beaumont Texas or Orange Texas. I'm just curious if any one knows how long it takes to get to the beach from either of those places. Also are there any other interesting places around there to go? I'm not familiar with the area at all. I know it's not too far from Houston.

- The Bolivar Peninsula and Crystal Beach are Beaumont's beaches. They are less than an hour away from Beaumont and during the summer you can find half of East Texas there. Galveston is just across the free ferryboat ride. You can take your car on it. Galveston has a rich history and lots of attractions. Most will be open or have opened in the wake of Hurricane Ike.
- Beaumont is about 90 miles due east of Houston on I-10. As you may know, this is the area that was hit by Hurricane Ike, so I'm not too sure about the condition of the beaches. Galveston would have been probably the most popular, but, again, I don't know what Galveston's status is as far as the beaches go. I know they are sure trying to get their tourist attractions back up and running. You might want to check their website at www.galveston.com. Sea Rim State Park, also a nice site, has been closed since Hurricane Rita, and may not reopen at all. You'll have to ask the locals once you get there. There may be some secret beaches they know about that weren't totally wiped out by the hurricanes. If not, believe me, you'll find more than enough to keep you interested in and around Houston!
- Pleasure island in Port Arthur is 30 minutes from Beaumont. Both are along rivers. Crystal Beach 45min is where most folks go. Ike and Rita pounded these areas.
