Why is the water at Southern California beaches colder, than at northeastern states even though it is located ?

- Air currents and cool air from the ocean.
- Ocean currents
- same reason England is warm for its latitude, the warm Gulf Stream goes up the East coast & across the Atlantic. Calif only gets really warm at El Nino.
- It's because the Gulf Stream carries warm water from the tropics around Florida up the eastern seaboard. This same Gulf Stream is also what makes Iceland, Britain, and Norway's climates so moderate, even though they're as far north as Alaska. On the Pacific Coast of the US the water currents move southward from Alaska, which is explains why the water is cold, even where the land temperatures are warm like in LA. The water is deep enough that the sun doesn't warm the water except in the very shallowest depths.
- El nino and la nina. It is a surge of ocean temperature that come in ocean currents every 4 to 7 years. It creates much cooler and warmer temperatures depending upon which one it is. Google El nino and la nina.
- the northeast is warmed by the northward flowing gulf stream current and California water is cooled by the south flowing California current from the north Pacific.
