Beaches for beginner swimmer, close to Neutral Bay, NSW?

Hey All, I want to find nice and very closed to Neutral Bay beaches for swimming. I am using the public transport only, which one is closest? I know Manly is always good, but it is bit of far, more than 30 mins on the bus, any closer one to recommend?

2. Balmoral Beach, is just about fifteen to twenty minutes walk from you, in Mossman just down the hill from the shops. Ask at the shops how to get to Balmoral, or catch a bus on Military Road down there it's about 5 minutes away in a bus from Neutral Bay. It has a fenced in swimming area and great for a beginner.
