Why has Australian Rules Football, yet again, been overlooked as an Olympic Event?

I mean European Handballs there, American Basketball and Softball. Beach Volleyball, a sport from South America Why no Australian Sports? Does the International Olympic Committee have an Anti Australian Bias? My Answers Suck: A little to violent? As compared to what? Boxing?

  1. Great idea. There should be a Fosters drinking contest or maybe a see who can throw the most shrimps on the barbie from 20 feet.
  2. Agreed, the greatest sport in the world should be shown in the biggest stage in the world, the Olympics. haha it's not really American Basketball or American Softball. Australia would demolish everyone in Aussie Rules, but America don't demolish everyone in basketball or softball, they're played worldwide, whereas Aussie Rules is played solely in Australia.
  3. ugh.. Softball ending after this Olympics
  4. AFL is played only in Australia. it's not an international game. FOOTBALL that you play with your HANDS?
  5. How is A.R.F. different from other football? Why don't you write to the Olympic committee and ask them if there is an Australian Bias.
  6. its not anti australian its just that no one else plays it i mean even in australia theres a whole bunch of people who much prefer watching and playing rugby or soccer
  7. Because the only people who really play Australian rules football are Australians. They don't have American football either, because only Americans play it. The defunct World League of American Football doesn't count. There has to be some level of competition in a sport in several countries before the IOC will consider adding it. Basketball has been played around the world for decades. Softball is a form of baseball which is the national pastime of the entire Western Hemisphere. And beach volleyball is played anywhere there is a beach, in north america too. I always saw the nets up when I went to beaches as a kid. Doesn't Sydney get the Olympics next... make the case for Australian football then.
  8. also its probably a little too violent and dangerous (which i'm sure youre proud of). mixing that with all the jingoism probably isnt a good idea.
  9. AFl won't change the name from aussie rules to world rules, therefore rest of the world don't know how good the game is.
  10. Because nobody else plays it except for some southern and western states in Australia
