Texas Beaches: out of Galveston, Corpus, Port A, South Padre which is the best FAMILY beach? Affordable hotels

Family trip two adults two lil ones.. which is the best beach to go to? Does anyone know any decently priced, clean hotels? THANKS!

1. If you are talking about going soon, I would recommend Galveston. I have heard the S. Padre has better beaches, however, with Hurricane Dolly I would be worried about what kind of shape they are in. I kind of think S. Padre is more of a "spring break party" vibe too....

3. For me it would come down more to how long was I wanting to go and how far do I want to drive? From central Texas any of those isn't such a drive, but from Houston it can be kind of far to any of those but Houston. For just a day, Galveston is okay. Certainly not my favorite, but it will do the job if you have a short weekend or a day. A little longer than that and you can go to Port A and Corpus. They are really close to each other and can be done in the same trip. I would recommend staying in Port A, though. Port A is one of the best family beaches. My family has been going regularly since I was about 2 and my parents still go every year, with or without all of us. I have heard South Padre is really nice. The Spring Break feel is during Spring Break, not all year. It is probably the nicest beach in Texas, but with that hurricane it may not be ideal to go this year. As far as decent, clean hotels, there should be plenty at any of those except for Labor Day weekend. Maybe look on Craigslist for house rentals, you would be surprised what you could rent for about the same as a hotel room.
4. I would also recommend Port Aransas for a beach vacation. The beaches are nicer than the ones in Galveston, and it's not too much further. North Padre Island is also really nice I hear, and cheaper than South Padre Island and less of a party atmosphere.
