How do I call the United States from Western Australia, without using a phone card?

The number I want to dial is 1-800-511-9165, regarding a subscription. However, living in WA, Australia, I'm not sure what to do, Can you please give me the extensions/codes I need to dial that number? I'm not sure where it's from specifically, but it's from America. Thankyou. Wait, I think it is from Virginia. Can you please list this number as well? Thanks

  1. You can't call 1-800 numbers from Australia. If you want to try anyway then you need to dial the international dialing prefix (0011) followed by the country code (1) followed by the number without the 1 prefix that they use for long-distance dialing. So the entire number is: 0011-1-800-511-9165 But like I said, 1-800 numbers can't be dialed from Australia, so this is unlikely to work. EDIT: Doesn't matter where it's located, 1-800 numbers are national and don't use an area code.
  2. Call 1225 - International Directory - and the operator should be able to assist, if not connect you directly. Might be a small charge (i.e. 75c or something) but they'll tell you.
  3. 1-800 numbers aren't usually accessible from outside USA/Canada. However, Skype provides free 1-800 access from their service. You don't need any Skype credits to call 1-800 numbers from Skype. I just did 5 test calls from Canada to 1-800 numbers in USA using Skype. They all worked. I don't currently have any Skype credits left in my account, but the calls still went through OK - free. It won't cost you anything to try. All you need is a PC to download and install Skype softphone, and a headset with microphone for talking.
