Garie Beach

Why was there a man dressed as "Darth Vader" following the Pope around at Bondi Beach today?

Why do some idiots want to ruin everything, i'm not even Catholic, but why do some fools want to run around the beaches and cities handing out condoms as a protest against the Pope being in Sydney? I thought new laws were passed forbidding people to demonstrate aginst the Pope's arrival here oh well not real 'constitutional' is it?.....

  1. i lol'd i dont get why the pope coming here is such HUGE news, top stories and all that...
  2. It's just sillieness, in general. Well, if the Darth Vader man wasn't walking up to the pope and bonking him in the head with his plastic saber... who was he hurting, exactly? Watch yourself... you're coming dangerously close to fascism with that last statement.
  3. because they strongly feel that the pope is a nob. they also know that media attention will follow the pope - if they want to make a point about an issue hangin out behind the pope is an effective way to do so. Either that or it was a catholic guy on the way to a star wars convention... as for 'constitutional' Australia's constitution has no bill of rights, which means our "free speech" etc is not protected by the constitution at all - that said how is the constitution at all relevant to the Popes arrival and the repealed laws protecting catholics from protesters...
  4. Because we have a population problem in the world and a lot of very poor countries are very catholic people. When birth control and abortion is banned by their church we have the problem of people with huge families. Divorce is also banned so this keeps a lot of women being very unhappily married, very poor, and very overworked with a lot of children that they can't feed. These people can probably complain to their ministers, but ultimately it's the big boy who makes the final decision ..... so the people are protesting because it is the Pope's fault - and he is the one to protest to because he is the decision maker in the church. I'm not in Sydney, but it doesn't sound like they were protesting against the Pope's arrival, just his archaic stance on family planning. Darth Vader? Sounds like a Chaser stunt! Yay!
  5. I'm Catholic and I don't give a **** about the pope being here and I don't agree with everything they preach but... this guy was probably just having some fun but... there is a group of people out there who think the Pope is evil and we are the Antichrist.
  6. perhaps he simply thought the pope was in fact the emporer palpatine - see for yourself and check out the link - http://www.unsoughtinput.com/index.php/2006/12/27/pope-benedict-or-emperor-palpatine/ (remove any spaces if required)
  7. This is fantastic. Both Darth and the Pope have a lot in common. Obviously, they both like to wear long dresses and they are delusional about some higher force guiding them. It's like a cool reality TV show. Darth is representing the dark side of the faith and who has'nt looked at the Pope and thought of Yoda. Hey, I might pitch this idea to 7......
  8. I think it was ingenious - Darth Vader = Dark Father (in german) Pope = German = member of the nazi youth You can make your own conclusions from this...
