Want to take my kids to Galveston, Texas to shlitterbaum waterpark & am looking for very nice hotel/resort?

on or VERY near the beach to stay, as this will be their summer vacation but also my first trip with my fiance as my husband and as step-father, but also as the annual trip that my best friend, college,law school roomate & I get together with our spouses and children (the difference this year being I have a new spouse, which after 20 years I am sure will be a bit uncomfortabel at first. Anyway I would like advice on a plush place to stay with luxuerous ammenities. A resort with a spa and nice place to eat would be nice, but the biggest bonus is a hotel with suites, not just standard rooms, so that the children can be in the same room but not in the same room. I would appreciate any advice, I am running out of time. I came up with the idea, I have never even been to galveston and I don't want to select the wrong hotel .

1. La Copa Inn Beachfront Resort ( http://www.resideo.com/us/texas/southpadreisland/97878257.hotel ) is probably your best bet. It's right on the beach, and a mile from Schlitterbahn. Complimentary breakfast & evening happy hour! The write-up says "Suites with jetted tubs, beach-view balconies and walk-in showers are also available." 2. Watch out for Dr. Nigel's recommended resort in the previous answer. It is a mile from Schlitterbahn in S. Padre Island but over 400 miles from Galveston. It might be a little far to drive everyday. For Galveston hotels, check Galveston.org. You can search for hotels in Galveston by area and by desired amenities. Be sparing on the amenity selection as it seemed to choke on too many choices. In fact, I finally selected only "Suites/Condos" and it returned quite a few very nice choices. The choices range from 1 to 3 bedrooms and the prices from $125 to over $300 per night.
