What is a great vacation spot in Texas?

My husband, daughter (age 2) and I are taking a vacation the last week of June. We want to go somewhere fun and as affordable as possible. The beach would be great...so we are trying to find the best beach to visit in Texas. I wish we could find a beach that has white sand and crystal clear water like Florida beaches, but I don't think there are any like that here in TX. Any ideas?? Thanks!

1. Galveston has good beaches as well as other interesting vacation spots. It's about an hour and a half drive from Houston Intercontinental airport and about 45 minutes from Houston Hobby airport. There are many other activities in the Houston area that you can do if it rains, or hurricanes. The other beaches are South Padre Island. Great beaches, possibly the best in Texas, but a little limited on other activities.
