  1. I hate to break it to you, but Austin is a landlocked city, meaning it's not near coastline. Houstin is closer, but to get to a beach from Austin, you're going to have to drive over 200 km.
  2. There's no ocean beaches, but there's plenty of lakes, swimming holes, water parks, and rivers near Austin. Lake Travis is the most popular lake. There's Pace Bend Park and Windy Point, which are nice. Devil's Cove is popular for boaters. For swimming holes, the most popular ones in the area are Hamilton Pool, Krause Springs, Barton Springs Pool (right in the middle of Austin) and probably Blue Hole down in Wimberly. There's also tubing on the Guadalupe and Comal rivers, just south of Austin, in New Braunfels (which also has Schlitterbahn, a really nice waterpark).
  3. The nearest actual beach is 150 miles away, in Port Lavaca. The Austin area does have lakes (Lake Travis and Lake Buchanan come to mind), Barton Springs, and even the oddly named Town Lake and Lake Austin, both of which are little wider than the original Colorado River they were created from.
