Does anyone know if the beach at Port A, Texas is better than Galveston beach?
I find the beach at Galveston very hard to walk on. Looking for a beach that is most like Jamaica but in Texas.

- I hate Galveston. To me, it's not even a beach. Have you thought of Corpus Christi or Padre Island. Those are nice.
- Well, you are not going to find one. Port Aransas is very nice and a lot of fun, but the beach, sand and clarity of the water is the same---it's the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy what we have---it's a beach, after all.
- You're not going to find anything like Jamaica in Texas. The sand composition isn't the same, the water currents aren't the same; therefore, the beaches won't be the same. You'd have to go to southern Florida to get close. Being a resident of Galveston, I'm not quite sure why you find the beach in Galveston difficult to walk on. I do it several times a week just fine. Perhaps if you explored the beach a little--go to the far west end or the far east end--you'd find a place that isn't so difficult to walk on. Galveston--and other texas beaches for that matter--have a lot to offer if you open your eyes and mind a little bit.
- The first person who answered this question obviously hasn't been to Galveston in a long time. I recently went down there a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time! The city has cleaned up the beaches. They have been bringing in sand from Florida and have set up very nice rental lounge chairs/umbrellas all across the coast. Yes the water may not be crystal clear/blue, but it is the Gulf after all, so you can't change the color. The water is clean though. They are also raking the beaches where the rentals are to try and control the seaweed that comes in. Galveston is also one of the oldest cities in Texas and has a lot of really cool historical buildings and sites to visit. So obviously my choice is Galveston. Don't knock it until you try it! :)
- You need to clarify: Port Aurthur, TX or Port Aransas, TX
- The beaches are the same. Galveston has more to offer in regards to restaurants and other activities. Port A is more secluded. I always have a blast in Galveston. We went last weekend for the day. It is what you make it.
- Port A has always been Port Aransas. The beaches are no different. They're on the same gulf which has the same general composition. The water might be slightly (highlight "slightly") clearer because Port A doesn't quite get the same amount of runoff from the Mississippi and Red rivers. The sand will be the same, though.
