What are the best beaches near or in Houston, Texas ?

im looking for some good beaches near Houston Tx. and some cheap Hotels

1. Galveston beach is the closest to Houston. Look on a map and you will see that it isn't far.
2. Galveston is brown water but has touristy things to do surf side is a quieter, less populated beach but doesn't have much to do except the beach
3. South Padre is the prettiest. The water in the summer is aqua or blue and about a 5 hour drive.

But beware ... cheap hotels can be trouble some times so check reviews of the hotel your are going to book. Check the exact location of hotel from google maps.
7. If you can afford it, there are some pretty snazzy beach houses and pristeen beaches between Galveston and Surfside. There's also a smal public beach there, but there's not a lot of anything else. Pack a lunch and bring a ite. Also, if you can get a 4 wheeler, go to San Louis Pass. Good sand, nice water, but be careful of very powerful undertows. It's quie a drive to get there, so not a lot of people go there.
