Great vacation spot with access to a beach in Texas?

We want to plan a vacation for July to Texas with our 5 kids, ages 6 months to 7 years old, for about a week. What is the best town to stay in that has a beach?

1. Texas has a LARGE area of Gulf Coast. It will really depend on what you want to do - if you are in to fishing, or just sitting on the beaches, or what. Will you be camping/RV'ing? or will you be staying in hotels/motels? Also, will you drive to Texas, and if so, from where? Many people don't realize just how far the drives are in Texas - for example from Dallas (North Central) to Port Isabel (south tip) it is pretty much a day-long drive... Of course, there are Major airports in Houston (not too far from the coast), Corpus Christi (on the coast) and Galveston (also on the coast).
