What are the great beaches in California where I can camp?

Hey I'm looking for beaches in California that would be ideal to camp in and also that don't have many people living in or around but still sort of have a small town near by. I'd also appreciate if you recommend any place if you could please also detail the good and bad stuff about the place. Thanks a lot.

2. I can think of some where they have campgrounds like Doran Beach in Sonoma County, but as far as pitching a tent by yourself on a beach, I really don't think you can do that. At Doran beach your tent or RV can be on the sand at the top of the beach.
3. San elijo beach, San onofre beach in San Diego county. Carpinteria beach, Montana de oro, Pismo beach,Morro bay, , Refugio beach in Santa Babara and San Luis Obispo county.
4. You might take a look at New Brighton State Beach ~ it's between Capitola and Santa Cruz in Northern California, so there's lots going on nearby. It's actually just one of several in the general area between Santa Cruz and Big Sur. Hope this helps! Suzi
