Are there disabled persons who visit beach resorts?

If there are, what activities do they usually do when they are at the beach?

  1. I am disabled, precluded from viable employment because of my limitations. However I have an "invisible disability" because I dont use mobility aids, (yet). Just to set the record straight on that one. I love going to the lake or the ocean, swimming,(the side stroke, no crawl because of my shoulder disability) lying in the sun on the beach reading, walking along the beach as far as I am able to, collecting shells, eating in the restaurant, doing what most people do when they are at a resort or the beach and if you looked at me you would never know I was disabled. Unless perhaps you are a doctor or another disabled person, we tend to spot things other people dont notice. I love sailing as well, so if I had a chance to go I would, I wouldnt be crewing though. I would be the "lazy" person just sitting and loving it. When I have to stand up to go for another swim, you would notice its difficult for me, but you would probably assume I "just have stiff muscles" from overdoing something. You might notice me taking longer to get "comfortable" lying on the beach, (I cant remember the last time I was "comfortable" lying down, sitting, or doing anything) changing positions more often, and you would probably think I am really lazy when my walk along the beach is only about 100 feet or so before I turn around. After a few hours at the beach as I try to stand up and hobble towards my car you would probably think I was "putting it on" so someone else will carry my stuff for me, or for some self centred obscure bid for sympathy - Disabled people do not spend all their time sitting indoors, we do things "other people" do, I usually "pay a price" for it afterwards but I dont intend to stop living.
  2. YES! they soak and bask in the sun....they watch the children play around....they can build sandcastles too....they can do whatever they like to the extremes that only their limitations could envy.
  3. People with disability can visit beach resorts as they should be accessible for them. I believe this day their are beach wheelchairs. So if they are in a wheelchair they can Watching the surf, feel the water, relax, read, dine out, Watch dolphins whales Blind walk on beach, swim, relax, dine out etc. The price for beach resorts are high so that could be the biggest barrier.
  4. One of my friends who is a amp does suba diving. But most of us use heated pools to help keep the weight off.
  5. Any person with a disability can visit any beach resort. Your questions sounded like you are asking if a person with a disability don't usually visit them (for whatever reason). What activity do they do? ANY activity that you and I would do - allowing for their physical limitation. But generally - believe or not - they are human too and woudl enjoy any activity that most other human enjoy. Cheers
  6. What other persons do at beaches.
  7. Hunny why are you asking this question you are going to a resort and you are disabled and self conscious about it. Don't be shy of who you are... God made you and he is proud of you... and for those people that stare... they are thinking wow she's got guts... and for the ones that don't think that... they will drowned in there ignorance unless you are there to save them.
  8. Honey, Let me see if I can answer this. There is nothing preventing a disabled person from going to and enjoying a beach resort that wouldn't prevent a person without a disability from doing the same, it just takes money in the case of both. If you can afford it then there is no problem. Depending on the special needs for the disability that may require more expense would be the only difference.
  9. I would think that that would depend on the disability. I go out to the Hampton's every year. I walk with crutches so I can go most of the places that others go. I swim very well so I swim and I like to read so I do that alot. I like to go out to dinner so sometimes I do that or I"ll go into town and walk around and see what the stores have or what's changed since I"d been there the year before. There are beaches that are wheel chair accessible you have to make sure that you let who ever plans the trip that you want to go to a beach that's accessible.
