Anyone been to the beach front in Texas, and if so where and what are some good resorts to stay at?

I am trying to decide on where to go, I want to go to the beach, I live in Oklahoma, and I don't want to go anywhere too far away from home. My husband is in Iraq and will be home for R&R in the spring and we want to take a vacation. We have thought about going back to a contemporary cabin in Eureka Springs Arkansas where we spent our honeymoon, it was fantastic, but I want to go to the beach, but I want it to be as nice, comfortable, and romantic as the cabin was. Any help on resorts that are very very nice(no matter the price) and romantic things to do on the Texas gulf coast?

1. My hubby and I are going to South Padre Island, TX in October. We've never been but all the pics I've seen are gorgeous and it was voted the 5th best beach in the world for 2007. In October rooms are really cheap and there are no crowds. The spring is really bad because of spring break at any beach. Prices soar and the beaches are standing room only. I hear Galveston and Corpus Christi beaches in Texas are ugly because of oil refineries. I looked at live beach cams to pick our beach. Try that to see what the beach really looks like!
