Want beautiful beaches in St. Thomas - is Bolongo Bay a good place to stay? I'm a 24 year old girl, planning on traveling to St. Thomas for a week in March with some friends. We want beautiful beaches and know of a few (Coki Beach, Sapphire Beach, Magen's Bay, Lindquist Beach etc.), but found a good, affordable condo in Bolongo Bay. Is this a good place to stay and will it be easy to get to the other beaches/destinations on the island via taxi?

What are some obscure and beautiful beaches on Oahu? I've lived here for 5 years and I feel like I haven't been to enough. I'll name what I've been to: Waikiki Ala Moana Kailua Waimanalo Lanikai Bellows Kahala Kaimana Waimea Bay Alan Davis (THE LOG IS GONE DID YOU KNOW?) Cromwells (probably the most obscure I've been to) That beach that is right next to the blowhole near Hanauma bay that you have to climb down to, what is it called anyways? And some beach on the west side that was really nice, I have no idea where it was exactly and what it was called. SO. Any other beaches I should know about?

Where do you live the beautiful people in U.S.? ? Normally, we see in Hollywood movies that leave many beautiful girls in the movies, blondes high and features beautiful girls, dark ... not bad at beaches sunbathing or strolling in the city or tourist zones such as promenades by the sea, or playing some sport outdoors ... for example that TV serie Film shows the number of 'Bay Watch', (with (David Hasselhoff) on the beaches of Los Angeles, California. Then one sees on the internet that is not all that pretty Jenter live in all those sites that shows film in Hollywood. And aunuqe tourist areas with a climate and good beaches agradeble is always a big attraction ... On the other hand, lives more Jenter in central and eastern U.S. coast, which in the West Coast as I have seen on a map of population. Statistically more likely to live where Jenter or more people, more likely to be able to find Jenter pretty. Can we find such beautiful places as Jenter Meriland, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago or Detroit Massachusetts, as in places such as sun and beach tourist California or Florida ? Where do you live the beautiful people in U.S.? Where it will be easier to see american' beautiful people? Is it concentrated in a few places of great weather beautiful beaches and sun, or rather, are scattered throughout the United States?
Will The Florida Gulf Coast Be RUINED By The Oil Spill? I am planning on moving to the Tampa Bay/ St. Petersburg area of Florida after college. I'm kinda upset now because a huge part of wanting to moving to Florida is to be near the beautiful beaches Florida has to offer. Will the oil stain the white sand beaches brown or whatever color the oil is? If so, will it ever return to being its crisp clean white it is now? (I haven't been to the florida gulf coast yet, and really want to-a friend of mine just moved to the same area and I'm going to visit him sometime soon)

Am I Not....? messed up??!! i'm only 13 turning 14 and i've been beaten up badly by plenty of people, been put on life support after being pounded to dust by a group of 6 or 7 people or so within an alleyway late at night and have had a chair smacked against my back by wacked cheerleaders, wtf??!! I've been punched, kicked.... Y is this happening to me. Don't get the impression that i am weak...i've been capable of fending myself before in the past and have won plenty of fights but still... it's just horrible isn't it, to be physically abused and beaten... why can't i escape it? Is it another one of those ienvitable consequences of existence. I think it's got to do with where i live... The place i live is great, so picturesque and scenic, green and lush with a beautiful beach and bay and the houses are of good quality and the high schools and middle schools are one of the more prevalent within america... But the town has had a bad history of violence and deaths during the earlier stages... Could the bad past be affecting the people's behaviour now. Is this why there is such a high amount of animosity and crime? It's okay i guess...no1 does drugs or anything here but still... is it good or bad? and is my life messed up?
Going to Jamaica - Stay in Montego Bay or Negril? We are going to Jamaica and I'm not sure where to stay, either Montego Bay or Negril. Which location is better? Real estate in Queensland: Best places to live? To all those who live (or have lived) in QLD, Out of: Gold Coast, Coolangatta, Tweed Heads, Redcliffe, Scarborough, Bribie Island, Caloundra, Maroochy, Noosa, Coolum Beach, Hervey Bay, Mackay, Rockhampton, Brisbane, Moreton Bay (and all of the following suburbs in their regions ie suburbs in Gold Coast region for example) which are the best suburbs to live in QLD (also including other suburbs i havent mentioned, but the ones mentioned are the ones i wanted to pay more closer attention to)? Give your reasons as well? Which are the worst? I'm more of a beach type person, so ones which are located in beach area is good for me. You can make your answer based on most beautiful beach location, crime rates, things to do, lifestyle, friendly ppl in the community etc. combined. Also, which are the most expensive/marquee suburbs? Finally, also, where is the box jellyfish found in (ie which is the furthest south they are located in?) Thanks
looking for a beach resort name? The beach is 3km long white sand beach in Camp Bay, Roatan, Honduras. Water is Turqoise in colors with coral reef break about 1km out. I bought the property because of its peacefulness and natural beauty. The resort will consist of a beach club house and commercial space on the beach with small cabins nested throughout the hillside overlooking the beautiful beach and turquoise water. The resort will be Eco friendly and a place to rejuvenate, meditate, focus and enrich your body, your emotions, your relationship and your finances. While helping locals to better themselves.
What is okaloosa Island like in comparison to Mid destin? We are going to Destin area in mid august after the last week of peak season. It took forever for us to pick a condo and we finally found west destin on okaloosa Island with the lazy river on the bay side. Just wondering opinions on okaloosa island vs. destin. We will have our own car. Our main concern is that we want a beautiful convenient beach while maybe avoiding the crowds a little.

We want to go somewhere with nice, beautiful beaches, and a lot of fun stuff to do, so I figured San Juan, Puerto Rico and Montego Bay, Jamaica, were some pretty good places. California the best State in America? My personal opinion is that all other states are generic compared to California. Being a truck driver having seen all states I think nothing compares with California in any department be it climate.the mountains and deserts, beaches and lakes.,worlds best farmlands ,cities like San Francisco and San Diego , the entertainment industry, the Google's and yahoo's ,the Face books and the E bay's,beautiful and friendly people. California's dead economy is still far better than any other state's good economy. I wouldn't live anywhere else.
Can someone translate this into Spanish for me? (No Google translate)? Cabo San Lucas is located on the southernmost tip of Baja California, and is famous for its casual atmosphere and exciting nightlife. With its large marina and beautiful bay, Cabo San Lucas also has great beaches, lots of shopping and restaurants, and a variety of hotels and resorts for any budget. Cabo San Lucas is also known for its famous stone arch, called El Arco, a magnificent natural rock formation at Land’s End. Cabo San Lucas' long sandy main beach, El Medano, is the place for swimming and various watersports. The beach has lots of fun restaurants in the sand, golf, volleyball, and perfect views. A popular port of call for cruise ships along the Mexican Riviera, Cabo San Lucas is also a popular destination for spring break or a long vacation and a hideaway for everyone. Being one of the best vacation spots in Mexico, Cabo San Lucas is the place for you!
So you know why is california better than texas? I sure DO! When it comes to big states, there can only be one king (sorry, New York). The real competition comes down to California vs. Texas -- a battle of red vs. blue, good vs. evil, surfboards vs. 10-gallon hats, avocados vs. Texas toast. The big-state debate has been revived this month thanks to Trends Magazine, which poses the question: Which state, California or Texas, is the blueprint for America's future? We'd love to read the full article and get Trends' insight, but its website costs $195 per year, so we'll just have to take matters into our own hands. Let's simplify the discussion for everyone who can't afford Trends' absurd subscription price. Texas sucks. California is king. Here are 10 reasons to prove it. No. 10 -- People Want to Come Here Would you rather see the Golden Gate Bridge or the Alamo? How about Hollywood or the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum? The San Diego Zoo or the Fort Worth Zoo? People don't really visit Texas. You can only go to Cowboys Stadium so many times. Come to California and see Yosemite, Fisherman's Wharf, Wine Country, Lake Tahoe, Disneyland, Joshua Tree, Alcatraz, the Gaslamp Quarter and Sequoia National Park. In the mood to see it all, hop in the car and take the Pacific Coast Highway in any direction. No. 9 -- Big States Don't Cry When political life gets tough, we call emergency legislative sessions. We make tough cuts. If things are going south, we hold a recall election. Make fun of budget woes if you must, but we'll get through it -- and we'll do it with dignity. When things get tough in Texas, Gov. Rick Perry throws a hissy fit and threatens to secede from the United States. Grow up, Texas. Plus, Perry's just crying wolf. No. 8 -- Our Waistlines Are Under Control Everything in Texas is bigger -- including Texans. When it comes to 2008 state obesity rates, Texas scored a 28.3. California scored 23.7. Dear Texas, call us when your pants fit. No. 7 -- Hit the Beach Texas has a few beaches, sure. (We know, we know, 600 miles of shoreline.) But there's a reason we're famous for ours and they're not famous for theirs. The California coastline is host to the most beautiful beaches in the country. Dare we say it -- the world. Plus, our best beaches are generally a short drive from where people actually live (think La Jolla, Malibu, Santa Barbara, Half Moon Bay). Texas' biggest claim to beach fame is probably South Padre Island, and while it is admittedly quite lovely, it's also a major spring break destination (yuck) and really difficult to get to. No. 6 -- World's Toughest Governor Despite Texas being the land of unadulterated machismo, our governor can beat up your governor. So, there. No. 5 -- We Have Options Californians have options. Getting bored of San Diego? Drive an hour and try Mexico. Got a case of the Sacramento blues, you're just moments away from Lake Tahoe. Los Angeles not doing it for you? Within an hour's drive, Angelenos can hit mountains, the Pacific, or perhaps the desert. Not in the mood for those options? Extend your driving time and make a break for Vegas. Oh, sweet Vegas. Seriously, Texas. Our neighbor is Las Vegas. Your neighbor: Oklahoma. No. 4 -- Plenty of Eye Candy Texans have gun racks. We've got guns. And racks. We're hot, we know it and just in case, there are enough plastic surgeons here for every Californian to look gorgeous. And if cosmetic surgery isn't your thing -- don't worry -- we have plenty of therapists too. No. 3 -- We Actually Invent Stuff Yes, Texas is enticing businesses away from California to its land of fewer tax headaches, but send us a telegram when Texas invents something. Sure, it makes financial sense to set up shop in Texas, but the Lone Star State will always live in our innovation shadow. Google can put its headquarters anywhere in the world -- they put it in California. Apple, HP, Twitter, Intel, YouTube, MySpace, the Gap, eBay -- companies that actually changed the way the world does business are in California. We may not cut the best tax deals, but we have a lock on creativity. We make movies, music, theatre and television. Hell, we invented blue jeans. No. 2 -- It's All About the Weather Texas wins! But only in the number of tornadoes, with an average of about 140 per year. Words like "Mediterranean" and "I can't believe it's January" are used to describe California weather. If you like cold, we have mountains for that, too. Arid, humid and "I miss California" are terms often used to describe Texas' weather. No. 1 -- California Isn't Home to George W. Bush We gave the world Ronald Reagan, and you gave us George W. Bush. Worst. Trade. Ever. (; Woah, I would never type all of this hahaha. Copy and paste dude. Hahaha Woah, I would never type all of this hahaha. Copy and paste dude. Hahaha
Beach wedding planning fiasco. What to do? I was hoping to get married in a land far, far away, but budget constraints and parents would have me looking a bit closer to home. Lucky for me, home is where many people go for a destination wedding! Santa Cruz, CA is a beautiful beach location, but I haven't the faintest idea if it's more cost effective to do it this way. I know renting a public beach should be fairly inexpensive (compared to places that are equipped for weddings) but then I'm on my own for party rentals, like chairs, tent, tables, plates, etc... I'd like to have my wedding and my reception in the same area. What I want to do it rent a large tent with side walls (something like this: http://www.mendocinocoastevents.com/images/PacificStarWedding2.jpg ) and furnish it with tables and chairs for 50 people, and a small dance floor. My biggest problems are this: *Finding a beach in the area that allows alcohol and open containers in the permit (most of the ones I've been finding expressly forbid it). I've tried googling private beaches in the area without much luck. *Knowing what I need to order. For example I can find pricing on tents but I have no idea realistically what size I'll need. What kind of dinnerware should I be getting, and how much of it? These are all things that boggle my mind. *Finding rentable portapotties in the area that aren't what you'd find on a construction site. I've heard of ones that are nice, with sinks and flushing toilets and everything, but I can't figure out where to rent them in the Bay Area. *Knowing what obstacles I'm going to be facing this way. On the one hand it seems like I could be saving a bucket of money, on the other it seems like it could quickly run out of my price range. Anybody that could help me out with any or all of my questions would be greatly appreciated. I just feel like I'm in over my head. All-inclusive places would be great, but as BUStudent pointed out, they're very pricey. On top of just charging you to rent the place, you're charged for food, drinks, tax, tip, cake cutting fees, corkage fees, and some places require you get liability insurance. You're allotted a certain amount of time, and that time also includes set up and clean up. Prices on weekdays also vary from weekend prices. I've googled as much as I can google. I've gone through The Knot, herecomestheguide, and every wedding resource I can find. I was hoping for somebody with personal experience that could give me a nudge in the right direction.
What to do at Half Moon Bay? We wanna go to Half Moon Bay because we wanna go visit a coastal area. Beaches are great because they don't cost anything (except gas) and it's a beautiful place to be. However, we'll be traveling about 2-3 hours to get there and we're wondering if anyone have suggestions on where to go or what else is there to do around there? Anyone know a place to chill or a place that inexpensive? Any suggestions will do and if you have a link to go along with it, that would be great. Thanks in advance.

There was a power station on the beach which is unusual . Hopefully someone will let me know its name
Good holiday getaway for the family? My family adores beautiful beaches, and my kids especially..waterslides! We have been to Atlantis, in Bahamas 3 times (They just love the waterslides.. so many to choose from) Dominican Republic twice, Saint Lucia (Coconut Bay), Florida three times, and we're out of ideas. Beaches would be wonderful or ClubMed but its very expensive! We manage to snag a deal everytime so that its not too costly.. any ideas on family friendly resorts with water activities or waterslides? Please no mexico..... other than that all suggestions appreciated! Thank you!!
Something of intrest to barbados!? Does barbadians really realize whats going on around them, some of you may not be familiar with the beautiful beaches, but i was born very close to the beach.I have notice now there is no access to the beach after you pass the Holetown police station, the only other access is by the paynes bay fish market, are we as barbadian will continue to shut up and allow ourself to be shut out from our beaches. We will ultimately pay a heavy price for our unwillingness to act, history will not be so kind to us, it will record a free people who had so much and gain nothing of value to our children or grand children, others will rightly say those people never achive anything,we labour not if we cannot labour for our own.The politicans in Barbados continue to fool the public over and over, you hear them saying things like Four Seansons, and many other top class resorts is being built how good it is for the economy (bullshit). How many developments in Barbados allocate funds to improve the surrounding area inhabitated by locals? How many developments seek to improve the lot of those whose areas they invade? They build up to the perimeter of their boundaries, and surround them with high fences. The message is clear,we are here but we are not apart of you.Now there are talking about developing Six Mens St.Peter,my word will not fall The beaches in Barbados is becomming private.I dont have anything against development but how in high heaven could any government allow people to block every access to the beach in a small island like Barbados as far as i can see in the future Bajans will have to bath on the east coast and build houses alon the scotland district. I agree Subway should set up in Barbados, but to the original topic it is quite difficult to take money out of Barbados so Bajans must realize that when top class hotels are set up here ,there bank accounts are overseas so if you are in any where outside barbados and you book a holiday at a hotel own by outsiders the money does not come into Barbados it remain in their countries
What is your suggest for my next trip? Casma Besides the beaches south of Lima, Casma is a very interesting option to escape the city. Known as the City of Eternal Sunshine, beautiful beaches offers interesting where you will find more of an adventure and good times guaranteed. And last but not least, you will have the opportunity to visit archaeological sites and museums to enrich your stay. Turtle health resort Your profile is part of a very tight enclosed bay and framed by the prolongation of hills Grande (north) and Turtle (south). In its sea limits curious forms generated as a result of continuous erosion by the sea. El Huaro beach Here are two beaches ideal for camping. The Huaro is characterized by a rock that turns into an islet, the same being covered by the sea at high tide. Gramita beach This beach is located as part of the foothills that reach the sea from the hill Tortuga. The coast presents a curve and the beach is sandy. Some walls of the rocks are shown in straight generating U-shaped passages which can also be accessed by sea. Regional Museum of Max Uhle Casma The Museum offers permanent exhibition halls, various information about the major pre-Hispanic cultures that inhabited the department: Moche, Wari, Chimu and Inca Casma. Interestingly the model inside the Cerro Sechin made natural scale, and replicas of the clay masks found by Julio C. Mojeque Tello. www.machupicchuperuexpeditions.com

Montego Bay, Negril or Ocho Rios? Which city is best for a vacation for 3 girls in their late 20's looking for nightlife, shopping, beautiful beaches... Somewhere not TOO family-ish or romantic.
Where should I stay/visit in Puerto Rico? Hello, travel lovers... I'm heading to Puerto Rico for a week long trip with my partner in February/March of 2011. Neither of us have been, so we're looking for some advice on lodging. I think the most important factor to us is being close to beautiful beaches. We like to relax and soak up the beauty of our surroundings. Of course, we'd also like to be close to sightseeing - architecture, shops - but that's secondary. We're more of nature lovers. At this moment, we're planning on doing the main island and then heading over to Vieques to do the bioluminescence bay experience, which also seems more secluded. We'd like something reasonably priced, too, yet clean and attractive... Any suggestions from experiences? Thank you!
Where to shoot pictures in San Francisco ? I have only 1 day free in San Francisco as a part of the business trip. I can't go far from the city. I've been to GGB, Coit Tower, Muir Woods, Bay Bridge, Embarcadero, Pier 49, Sausalito, Chinatown, Exploratorium. I need to take cityscapes or beautiful wide expansive deep blue skies with green grass or just interesting things on a beach. Can someone give me suggestions ? I will have about 8 hours only - can't go too far.

From Vallejo 2 San Diego..Your Thoughts? (Serious comments)? Simply raised a bay-destrian out in the V for almost 12 years. moved out to socal bout 2 months ago. the life style & trends in the bay is always something new. SF & Oakland has to be one of those perfect examples. diffrent races, truley urban & the style they have is unique..we got made up slangs & dances that people today are using all over.. Listening to Mac Dre & all the other Bay rappers since the early to mid 90's.Before the Hyphy movement. Now livin in SD, Beautiful City, Beaches, Women, the vibe is chill. You make new friends quite easily out here.. & Its funny how i go to down-town & see fools tryin to go dummy in the club. or when I talk about oakland they get hella pissed -lol (Charger heads) all though comin fresh of the bay, They show love, when they hear where im from. Underground hip-hop was also a big thing in the bay no doubt. T.J is pretty crazy out there.. dont think ill ever go back -lol Job's out in SD are really easy to find but very competitive. Glad i found a job out in La jolla -lol I notice alot of teens & adults go hooka out here alot. I recently started smoking hooka alot more out here. Anyways I still have to observe on the nice places out here in SD like Coronado & Pacific Beach. Everything seems to be closer. Like from SD to LA is 2 hrs.. from SD to Las Vegas is 4hrs. & i just wanna know what else is great out here in SD besides Seaworld -lol Btw if you aint from california, you prolly wont understand a thing im writing. But dont hate it's just a bay area thing

best place to live in florida? my husband & I are looking to relocate to Florida to escape the rate race of the SF Bay Area (& in my opinion), and the rest of California. We're looking for a slower-paced lifestyle/town (preferrably in a smaller community) & obviously beautiful scenery; being close to beaches/canals is really important to us. can anyone recommend any places?? Thanks!

Beach Holiday with Wife and 2 little ones? Hello, I live in Sydney with my wife and boy (18 months) we have another little boy due in mid Jan. We would like to go for a *budget* holiday with boy and bub when bub is about 5 months old. We like to beach fish and I like to scuba dive/spear fish. Anyone recommend any locations - preferably warm! We just got back from Currarong (north of Jervis Bay) it was beautiful but a little cold... Any recommended places along the Central Coast??
how do you like living in San Francisco? hi so i have gotten into 4 colleges and one of them is cal state east bay. i am from so cal, i have never been to san francisco, but i always thought it was beautiful on TV and in pictures. how is Hayward/San Francisco?, is the weather good?, can you go to the beaches? any positive information would be greatly appreciated. thank you = ]
is there any all inclusive hotels in st thomas? Ok so I know there are but someone asked this earlier and the response they got was WRONG. YES THERE ARE. There are 3 that i know of. They have either an AI option or European plan so be careful to check with plan you pick. For example if you pick on a travel site like Orbitz, they will show you the cheapest room rate which is not going to be AI. So you have to click where it says all room options when you go to book it (even if you don't follow through it doesn't matter, i do it all the time to compare sites) then you will see on the side when it starts saying the AI option. Now with that said I will name them. Bolongo Bay Beach Resort Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa All are kid friendly and all are beautiful. Now AI will be more money upfront, but think about it.. then you don't have to pay for your meals or snacks! Which take it from me, I always do the AI option, but last time i actually looked at the prices.. most hotel dinners were about 20 a plate.. I got lobster that ran at 40! Then you factor in drinks, snacks, etc.. yikes! If you know of anymore or have been to any of them feel free to comment.. i guess I'll pick informative people as the best answer.. not dumb $&*#s :)
What do you think of my speech? Please leave comments and suggestions!? A couple of summers ago I went to Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is a small country in the Caribbean. We left early in the morning to catch our flight. The flight took 3 and a half hours. Later we checked in to our hotel and the first thing we did was go to the beach. Puerto Rico has the clearest water I’ve ever seen. Puerto Rico also has caves and mountains. The mountains in Puerto Rico were nice. The mountains have narrow roads leading up all the way to the top of the mountain and back down. The road was the most dangerous road I’ve ever seen. My dad still insisted that we go up to the top by car so we can get some pictures of the view. The roads had no guard rails and when you are over 2,000 feet above ground it is kind of scary. Snorkeling is another big thing in Puerto Rico. You can jump in almost anywhere in the warm, clear Caribbean Sea and find beautiful sights and fascinating marine life. From the coral reefs offshore to the bizarre burrowing creatures of the back bays. San Juan is the capital of Puerto Rico. San Juan is where we ate most of our meals and did most of our shopping. The streets in the city were also narrow. Like in Europe the roads were mostly one way streets. The sidewalks were filled with a lot of tourists from a lot of different countries. Almost every 30 feet there was an art gallery. Since my dad likes art a lot he stopped at every single one. We also visited an old fort in Puerto Rico. The fort was built in the 1500s to protect the island.. The whole fort is built with stone. The walls are massive and the dungeons were pretty cool. We took some nice pictures and we enjoyed exploring the fortress. It was like one big history lesson. We spent eight days in Puerto Rico so we could have time to do everything there. When we went there I had the most Pina Coladas ever. Pina Coladas are shakes made from coconuts and pineapples. This whole trip was a great experience and we will probably visit Puerto Rico in the future.
AVID READERS ONLY! What do you think of my story? I am a 10-year old aspriring writer! Please critique my story! Portlyn California Glenn Portlyn California Glenn was only six years old when her luxurious life living on the Beaches of Siletz Bay was taken away. She lived in a condominium with her Mama, Ashland Coquille, and her Papa, Eugene Bethel. They had to move to a bigger and better place for their new baby that they were going to have in just a few months. They were moving to Harney County. Portlyn Cali went by Portlyn at the time, and she hadn’t started first grade yet. She was excited about moving to Harney County to live on Silver Creek. Portlyn California had light blonde hair and an inviting smile. Her mama was pregnant with Emma Grace Glenn, Portlyn’s first sibling. Ashland had light blonde hair, just like Portlyn. Eugene, Portlyn’s Papa, had dark brown hair. When Papa told Portlyn that they were in their new hometown of Riley, she looked outside at the cows and chicken coops. “Oh boy,” began Mama, “This is gonna be a challenge.” Portlyn asked, “Mama, are we living with the cows and chickens?” “We’ll get used to it,” said Mama. “At least Emma Grace will. She’ll be raised here.” Papa said, “It’s nice here. We won’t have those neighbors anymore!” “That’s about it,” Mama began, “We’ll have to fight for our food and live like in the olden days.” But Portlyn saw this completely differently. She saw this as an opportunity to play outside, make new friends, and actually get a taste of being a real-world adult. Even though Portlyn was only six, she wanted to be like an adult. Papa said, “Here we are. 5 Silver Creek Court is our new home address.” Portlyn walked out, smelled the air, and knew that she was going to love her new home. But everything has changed. It’s 2008. Now Portlyn goes by Cali, which is an abbreviated version of her middle name, California. She is 12 years old and sweet with family, sour with boys. Cali has three younger sisters, Emma Grace, who is 6 years old, Madison Jane, who is 4 years old, and Hallie Sarah, who is 3 years old. Ashland and Eugene’s name schemes changed after they had Cali. They decided to go with more common names. They have 12 year old Cali, 6 year old Emmie, 4 year old Maddie Jane, and 3 year old Hallie. Times are hard in Riley. Cali’s papa no longer has a job, which forces her mama to work as a housewife for the Michaels Family. The Michaels live in Harney. Mama drives on the dirt road to Harney every day. The Michaels have a little boy who is Cali’s age. His name is Joshua. Mama likes Joshua, but Cali doesn’t. She says that he tries too hard. He does. Joshua always sits by Cali in church, and at the picnics, and when she goes with Mama to clean their house. Many things change fast. It happens to everyone. This is Cali’s story. Cali woke up in the morning. It is Sunday. Sunday is Church Day. Cali goes to United Baptist Church in Harney, Oregon. She wakes up early in the morning with Mama and Papa to milk the cows, check on the cheese, feed the chickens, work in the garden, and do other things. On Sundays, they do not work at all. The girls sew. Papa cleans his pipe, and then reads from The Bible. He reads out loud, so that all can hear his powerful voice, reading the words, slowly, but strongly. They used to have electricity in Cali’s home, but they had to turn it off because they could not pay for it. Instead, they use lamps and candles for light, and they have a radio, in case of thunderstorms. Cali had to wake up her three sisters. Cali had a beautiful gray, silk dress with pretty heals. Her sisters all wore flats. Cali’s church dress when she was a toddler is what Hallie wears, Cali’s church dress when she was a four year old is what Maddie Jane wears, and Cali’s church dress when she was six is what Emmie wears. Emmie’s dress is silk, and pink, while Maddie Jane’s is a light blue silk, and Hallie’s is a pale yellow silk. Mama’s is a pale green silk dress, with heals, and Papa wears a nice suit, from the Bay. Joshua wears a suit similar to Papa’s. This morning, in church, Cali and Joshua sat by each other again. In the middle of the sermon, Joshua put his hand on Cali’s lap. Cali just stared at Joshua for a moment, but soon she jerked his hand off. When it was time for Children’s Church, they talked. “So,” began Joshua, “Cali, I didn’t see you on Saturday.” “I was working on the farm,” Cali said. “Well, uhh, it was great seeing you today,” Joshua said as he began to touch her shoulder. “Don’t touch me again,” demanded Cali, “or I will tell my papa.” “You would really do that?” Asked he. “Yes, I would, Joshua Michaels! Now keep your distance,” Cali said as she walked over to her best friend from school, Lesley Bernard. Lesley had red hair, and dark eyes. She always had braids in her hair, and she said it was because “They are cute, but also good to work in.” Lesley asked, “Does that boy named Joshua still have a crush on you?” “Yeah,” said Cali, “he won’t get over me.” The blonde-haired boy was sitting Please do not be rude. I am trying my best, here, and I don't really care how long you've been a journalist, but I just don't want people to be rude. Thank you.
What do you think of my story so far? Your going to move this Friday, it's your last Sunday at a beautiful town. You don't want to move but you don't care. Things are already bad. Things will get worse. She knows it. When Their Eyes Met: CH 1: Her Last Weekend By Annmarie She stood there. Silent. It was her last weekend in Green Bay. "Em, I'm leaving for work as soon as your brother comes home. You can call over a few friends if you'd like. I'll be home by 6." "Ok mom.” said Emily. Emily seemed OK about her mom going to work at 9 and coming home at 6 but she hated it. She was always busy since she's an author. Emily hated that there was never any events they had together as a family. She thought that once they move, there was definitely no change. Maybe it got worse, they were only moving BECAUSE of work. Emily has dark brown hair and green eyes. She's 14. She is small for her age, 4 feet 11 and 78 lbs. "Well, actually mom-" "Oh, there's Zane. Bye sweetie" She opened the door and just left with her briefcase in one hand and her coat folded over her arm. Zane. Her older brother. He is very independent, he wasn't at a friend's house if that was what you were thinking. Zane was at Bay Beach. He sits there once in a while when he's upset or needs to think something over. He's depressed a lot if you count. His hair is a little lighter shade of brown. His eyes are blue. He got his traits from his dad. Speaking of their dad, he goes to work at 8am and comes at 6:30 pm. Yeah, pretty early, but at least he comes just in time for dinner. He's a part-time engineer and an architect. He tries to get days off to spend time with his family. He gets breaks on a few holidays but that's not enough for him, he loves his family, but he needs to earn money. "Hi Zane." Emily talks to Zane sometimes but she noticed that he hasn't replied to her in 2-3 months. He replies by an "ugh" at times but never an actual word/sentence. Obviously, he doesn't like talking. Pretty much anyone is scared to talk with him because he gives a look, the look that someone gives when they don't want to talk. It's hard to explain. Zane goes up to his room. He used to play and write music. He played the guitar but now he doesn't. He was good at it too. Zane sang too, with Emily. He always had a smile on his face. They used to be kind of like best friends, until 2 and 1/2 months ago. It all changed, not just her brother but almost everything. I'm also writing one about a girl who falls in love with her imaginary friend but doesn't realize he's imaginary. oh and just saying annmarie is my middle name. it's pretty, right? but my first name is taryn. yeah i know it's not that good yet. i found it in a folder on my desktop folder and saw the date: May 8 2005. yeah. that's why i put it up, for criticism
Chesapeake Bay...is it in MD or VA? What do you know about it? So I asked before about a really great vacationing place and someone kindly mentioned Chesapeake Bay and I looked it up and it looks amazing!!! I was curious about it and what it's like. Also I keep getting mixed info on wheather it's in VA or MD? I found a beautiful hotel and didnt know if anyone could suggest a hotel and restuarants and things to do!! Is it all it's cracked up to be? Is there a better time to go during the year? Is it more fmaily oriented or couples? Loud place or quiet and reserved? Do they have boats you can rent or beaches tog o on? This is the hotel I really like and would like to stay in http://chesapeakebay.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp?src=tig_resort_chesa_yahoo. Is there a better place you reccomend or have you had experience here at this hotel? Thanks fo all your kind answers and I really do appreciate it.
Texas or Ohio or California? I lived in ohio for 12 years and now i live in texas near galveston.ohio is nice and some places are great like cleveland and cincinati but texas is much more beautiful than ohio and better.California has beautiful mountans and better and beaches than texas.mine i go for is texas. why? Beacuse it is more beautiful and it is large and its just more to do than ohio and the other reason is because their is more to desire in texas, plus i gotta love the gulf and the bay area and the clean areas around where i live.also i love the palm trees and lakes but we may not have the tallest palms as florida and california. I give props for california because of their beaches and mountains and palms.California well respected but Texas is what i like more.
What's the best spot for a Caribbean vacation, bang-for-your-buck-wise? The girlfriend and I are looking for a 5-7 day Caribbean excursion. There are so many options on the table we feel we are spreading ourselves too thin in our search, so we'd like to narrow. Here's what we are looking for (in order of importance): 1) A price tag under $1600 when all is said and done. (Flight, hotel, food/drink, activities...everything) 2) Beautiful, not-too-crowded beaches with clean, clear water. Access to secluded areas, and kid-free beaches would be great. 3) A variety of activities. While the greater part of this trip will be beach relaxing, we definitely want a couple days of adventure. Specifically: snorkeling/diving, jungle tours/hiking, rafting/tubing, ruins and landmarks, off-roading, fishing, etc, etc. I'm a nature boy, so I'm more interested in off-the-beaten-path stuff as opposed to cookie cutter tourist trap stuff. We want nice amenities, but don't require 5 star. We are 31/26, so are down with a bit of nightlife, but aren't going crazy. If anyone has suggestions on destinations, and maybe even resorts or regions within those destinations, we would greatly appreciate the advice. Also, recs on where NOT to go are also great. Here is our current, broad list: Costa Rica Belize Riviera Maya Aruba Puerto Rico Bay Islands (Honduras) Virgin Gorda (Little Dix Bay) Turks and Caicos Bahamas US Virgin Islands Jamaica Dominican Republic Trinidad/Tobago Feel free to talk up or talk down these spots or add to the list. Thanks in advance!

Central California Beach Wedding? We are planning on getting married sometime between May and September 2010. We want to have a beach wedding somewhere in Central California...maybe Pismo, or Avila beach, or somewhere around there. Does anybody have any ideas on venues that are beautiful and reasonably priced. We live in the Bay Area so it makes it a bit more difficult to plan. Any tips on a beach wedding??
does anyone have a tutorial on how to write an essay for college? here's what i've written so far It's hard for to me to imagine that i ever left that place at all. The beautiful skies, the city in the backdrop. It was peaceful and calm, the relaxing winds, the boats in the distance. Couples walking hand in hand. Children laughing and playing, like everything was perfect in their world. To me everthing seemed to to fit, like a postcard picture. It was hard to believe that my very own two eyes were witnessing such beauty, that God had created. Before that moment i had taken his work for granted. After that moment i started to truly appreciate them. The ocean is such a vast and mysterious body of water. Yet it's able to intrigue many, without even stating a word. It had been a long time since i'd seen the ocean last. A little girl, around seven, had persistently begged her mother to drive her to monterey bay. She loved the seagulls and the ocean waves that beat beneath the sand. She also liked seeing surfers riding the waves. They made it look so easy. She always wondered why that couldn't be her, enjoying the ocean on a hot day.Playing all day by the beach as if time didin't matter, an endless supply. She knew her mother's time was limited, and shortly after their arrival. They had to depart unexpecitadly. Still in her heart she hoped she'd one day return. Many years had passed since she had returned to the waters in which she onced loved. Dreamed about, daily, until she was old enough to go on her own. As soon as she was there she loved it. She could not imagine going back to a small town in california. She thought this is where the real people of that state lived. By the world's greatest creation, hand down. To her nothing else could compare to it. She visited the marina, with several of her closest friends. After all graduation was just around the corner and she wasn't about to miss out on it. It took several hours just to get there. She did not mind because she knew that the payoff would be great. A day at the beach, was an ideal and obtainable obstacle.
Can someone please translate this in Spanish! TY!? Can someone please translate with in Spanish without using the web! The web shows many grammar errors. This is suppose to be in preterite and imperfect tense. THANK YOU!! I visited Hawaii last year with my friends. It was an amazing trip. WE had fun everyday! The trip costed $2000. The island was very beautiful. There were so many activities to do. The geography of Hawaii was very facinating. Hawaii had beaches everywhere! Nearby, there was a big beautiful waterfall. There were some cliffs, bay, and hills. Along the coast, you can see sand covering the whole island. The island was magnificant. In hawaii, I did many activities. I went shopping, sightseeing, scuba diving, and swimming. One day, I was scuba diving with my friends when all of a sudden I saw a a dolphin. It was very cool. Hawaii was very facinating. It is the perfect trip for a vacation. I think everyone should go to Hawaii at least once in thier lifetime!
I've never written an descriptive essay and I'm having to write 1.Can u tell what I've done wrong. HElp The Cross Roads is a tiny community of about 55 homes in Rowlett. This Community is not a wealthy community but a well kept one. In my community we have a people that keep themselves in the know of what’s going on. One of those members would be Keith, he is curious member. If you were to see him you wouldn’t think anything of him. He’s simple tall grey headed elderly man that wears the same thing every everyday. It’s always a T-shirt with blue jeans and white tennis shoes. But looks are very deceiving. He’s the eyes and ears of this community. Their isn’t anything that goes on without his knowledge. He could kept you more current about the Cross Roads News than the New York Times. Another member of our beautiful community would be our mid 30-something’s couple. Heidi, is a very quite and reserved wife of David’s, but David her husband he thinks he’s a tiger. I believe he was given the wrong brochure when he was deciding on purchasing a home. Because he’s thinks we live in a nudist colony. This man never has a shirt on. When he mows his lawn, I believe in his mind he looks like a Bay Watch babe running down the beach. But with those red little swimming it’s not a beautiful sight. I feel like I’m watching a horror film in my front yard. Despite all the faults of our community I can say that it’s a great place to live and raise children. I love my community even though it isn’t normal but whose is?

Ten items for this novel? I'm doing a project on the novel A Salty Peice of Land by Jimmy Buffett, and I need ten items for a project that describe the novel, it's kinda hard :/ Here's a summary of the novel. A Salty Piece of Land brings back the character of Tully Mars from Jimmy Buffett's previous novel, Tales from Margaritaville. Tully is a Wyoming cowboy on the lam. The ranch where he lives and works has been converted to a poodle ranch run by a universally hated woman by the name of Thelma Barston. After Tully throws a massage table through her plate glass window, she uses her political connections to trump up charges and have a warrant issued for his arrest. Tully takes his faithful steed, Mr. Twain, and decides he wants to see the ocean. With bounty hunters on his trail, this begins a series of adventures for him that will take him to the Alabama coast, Key West, Mexico, Belize, Cuba, and the Bahamas. Tully is a kind soul, hard worker, and a quick learner. He befriends a shrimp boat captain named Captain Kirk who teaches him his first lessons about the ways of the sea and transports him and Mr. Twain to a remote part of the Yucatan peninsula called Punta Margarita. He also meets and begins a budding friendship with a musician/treasure hunter/pilot named Willie Singer. Tully lands a job as a fly-fishing guide at the Lost Boys fishing camp in Punta Margarita. It's run by a man named Bucky Norman who leases the land from the manager of a country western singer named Tex Sex. The other fly-fishing guide is a Mayan shaman, Ix-Nay. In the remote outpost of Punta Margarita, Tully feels like he can leave his past behind and try to figure out where his new life will lead him. On a trip to the Mayan ruins at Tulum, he's stranded when he totals a Jeep. While waking a from a ganja-induced dream on the beach there, he sees a beautiful schooner coming into the bay. Its captain is 101-year old Cleopatra Highbourne, and she's on a mission to find a fresnel lens for a lighthouse she wants to refurbish on the Bahamian island of Cayo Loco, the salty piece of land of the book's title. It's an endeavor that will eventually involve Tully and his friends, but first he must make a trip to Belize to find a Land Rover to replace the Jeep. A man on the run from the law with a fake passport and bounty hunters in pursuit must be careful. Which is how Tully ended up in the middle of a wild spring break party with a couple hot college girls. That's a quick outline to the plot, although the plot is not that important. It serves as the vehicle to further the adventures of Tully and his new-found friends. Some of the chapters in this novel are letters from Willie Singer as he searches for a fresnel lens while island hopping his way across the south Pacific in a seaplane. Each adventure is just plain fun as Tully finds out what's important to his life, and that answer is invariably a sense of ethics, a lot of fun, and good friends you can count on anytime. It helps that a lot of these friends are very wealthy and can come to the rescue at the drop of a hat. Tully continues to find like-minded people, often making instant connections as if they share the same karma. Karma and mysticism play a recurring role in A Salty Piece of Land, from his father's friend and Indian medicine man, Johnny Red Dust, to Ix-Nay the Mayan shaman, to an odd religion on a forgotten South Sea island. A Salty Piece of Land is a fun ride through Jimmy Buffett's idea of paradise, and you get the sense it's a place he's visited often. Many of his own loves, flying, sailing, and fishing, are featured prominently in the novel. It's a world where drink, ganja, and fun are pleasant additions if not done to excess. It's also a place where the dark forces of greed, corpocracy, and pollution threaten paradise. A disdain for tourists and resorts and an affection for indigenous people who've learned to live off the land runs strong through the novel. Even Cuban baseball, played for pride instead of greedy contracts, plays a role. This is not a literary novel and A Salty Piece of Land has no pretensions that it is. There will undoubtedly be those readers put off by its lack of any real drama or suspense. At times it's predictable, but it's a comforting predictability at that. You know the good guys will win, the friends will be there in the time of need, and all surprises will eventually be pleasant ones. That doesn't distract from the enjoyment of the novel, but adds to it instead. Jimmy Buffett's prose easily transports the reader to the different settings in his paradise. I don't fish, I've never sailed a schooner across the Caribbean, or flown a plane. By the end of this novel, I wanted to do all three. Therein lies the charm of this book: its easy access to warmth and beauty of many types teehee...anyways, i already have a Jimmy Buffett shirt because he wrote the novel and a poodle because Tully gets transferred to a poodle ranch, I'd LOVE some help! Thanks:) ~Miss
Is this what the Obama nation will look like if his policies are implemented? California it really is a beautiful state you can go from the beaches to snow cap mountains to beautiful green valleys in the space of ½ hour. Unfortunately Liberals have destroyed the state the news recently stated that 144 thousand people left the state last year and that is with the high influx of Asians and Mexicans immigrants both legal and illegal entering the state. The reason why California is in such a mess is that the politicians here believe you can tax you way out of any economic situation. I will give ex most people in the Bay Area makes over $20 hr but the average rent is over $2000 a month, the average house is about 1500 sq ft and cost an average about $600,000 with property taxes in the 20-40 thousand dollar property tax range this means the average person will never be able to retire and live here. Every time you cross a bridge it is $4 food prices are double the price than in most states yet most of the produce is grown here. Most of californians believe this is how the rest of the nation lives So they continue to raise taxes raise bridge tolls they have this enormous government tax policy yet have a projected 44 billion deficit, yet they behave like they have no idea why people are moving out of the state. I have seen some of the symptoms when you see politicians advocating this type of policy in your state be aware of where it is leading.
Somebody help me on essay? Here is my introduction for the essay. Can anybody correct the grammar in the sentences. Thanks. What do you think makes American cities ideal places to live or state of beauty? Analyze the components that not only make them ideal, but also reflect the dominant American values. Being brought up in a fascinating city, I was able to watch my favorite Hollywood films and 49ers on television and the influences of foreign cultures around my neighborhood. People come to American cities for inspiration and renewal. My first impression of the cities, think about the beautiful environment surroundings and the colorful residents in the Bay area. The cities made it possible to universally bring people together to work and play here. I like living here because it reminds me of my endless memories of my childhood and it is very meaningful. I could be by myself whenever I want to in a place that is so beautiful in nature and I was able to be with my family. My parents moved to the city and bought a house here in order to find a better life and to start over. I feel lucky for living here because of the large amount of diversity, culture, and creativity. It gave me the opportunity to open up myself to meet new people and speak my languages. I craved to taste the variety of delicious foods in the amazing cuisine restaurants. The atmosphere of the city is filled with nearby public transportations, intersection roads, and friendly people. I was desperate to do shopping sprees and the streets are filled with various music. The beautiful architectures of the buildings have historical values. I was easily accessible to many popular places in the neighborhood where I live now such as, libraries, schools, zoo, restaurants, parks, shopping malls, theatres, amusement parks, playgrounds, cafes, bakeries, pharmacy, community organizations, holiday parties, swimming pool, museums, fisherman's wharf, ferry boat, beaches, symphony. I feel absolutely safe living here. Even the rent is high now, I already fall in love with the city because I think contrasting other places they are more expensive. Usually people living here, end up working here in order to stay here which means they like living here. American cities are ideal places to live because they offer economic opportunities, encourage diversity and allow more freedom with choices and ideas. Is there a way to shorten the introduction for the essay?
Affordable garden/park wedding Venue in Northern CA I am getting married next fall and I was wondering if anyone knows of a beautiful garden or park or even a beach for a wedding ceremony/reception? I've been looking but everything is so expensive! I don't have thousands of dollars to spend on the venue alone. Any suggestions? I am hoping for someplace in the Bay area or close by. Thank you.
Critique speech!
Honestly, do you love America despite the Neo-conservatism? I admit the scenery in America can get magnificent (in places)....what a beautiful country. The California typography is surreal, from the Desert to the Pacific to the Redwoods to the valley to San Francisco Bay to the vineyards to the Sierra to Yosemite....to Big Sur.....to Hollywood and the celebrities.....it MAKES America! I LOVE driving across Ohio and seeing the smalltown hardworking Union industrial towns that built the backbone of America. I love the independent eccelectic sleepless New York, NY. I love the vision of paradise you sense in Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando and the Beaches of Miami. The French Culture of New Orleans. The glitter of Las Vegas. The history of the native peoples in the Dakotas, the carvings of our forefathers on the stones of Mount Rushmore. The people of the Rockies in Colorado.... the hospitality of the South The ever still grasslands of Texas The Colonial settlements and battlefields of Virginia. The slow-cooked Barbecue of the Carolinas... The serenity of America's National Parks and State Parks. The 10,000 Lakes and wooden cabins and cottages and churches, of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.... what a BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY!!!! We are blessed to live in this country. But what is with the neo-conservatives who want to take everything down and put Walmarts everywhere and bail out AIG and big companies instead of helping small businesses and poor families? what are we doing to this BEAUTIFUL country.... This country is too beautiful to destroy with bad politics. Can we at least agree on that? And before you all die, you need to take drive along Arizona's Desert hills and hike the Grand Canyon
can someone help me on this poem? POEM 1 The sea is calm to-night, 2 The tide is full, the moon lies fair 3 Upon the straits;--on the French coast, the light 4 Gleams, and is gone; the cliffs of England stand, 5 Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay. 6 Come to the window, sweet is the night-air! 7 Only, from the long line of spray 8 Where the ebb meets the moon-blanch'd sand, 9 Listen! you hear the grating roar 10 Of pebbles which the waves suck back and fling, 11 At their return, up the high strand, 12 Begin, and cease, and then again begin, 13 With tremulous cadence slow, and bring 14 The eternal note of sadness in. 15 Sophocles long ago 16 Heard it on the Aegean, and it brought 17 Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow 18 Of human misery; we 19 Find also in the sound a thought, 20 Hearing it by this distant northern sea. 21 The Sea of Faith 22 Was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore 23 Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furl'd; 24 But now I only hear 25 Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar, 26 Retreating, to the breath 27 Of the night-wind, down the vast edges drear 28 And naked shingles of the world. 29 Ah, love, let us be true 30 To one another! for the world, which seems 31 To lie before us like a land of dreams, 32 So various, so beautiful, so new, 33 Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light, 34 Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain; 35 And we are here as on a darkling plain 36 Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight, 37 Where ignorant armies clash by night. QUESTIONS: 1. What does the speaker describe in lines 1-5? How does the speaker feel about the things he describes? 2.Sophocles wat a Greek playwright famous for his tragedies (Antigone,Oedipus Rex). Why do you think Arnold included his in the poem? What efect do you think he was trying to create by using this allusion? 3.Which imagery in the poem appeals to the sense of hearing? to the smell? How does these images contribute to your experience and understanding of the poem? 4. "Naked shingles" means beaches covered with peddles. What does the retreating " Sea of Faith show when it retreats? What does "naked shigles" mean in this (symbolic) sense? 5. What is the theme or main idea of the poem? Do Arnold's images of the shoreline effectively convey the theme? Why or why not?
Why do people from the British Isles move to Florida? I live in Florida. The Tampa Bay area. I am also an artist. I create surreal or fantasy landscapes in which I use a lot of photos of places like the British Isles and elsewhere in my work. Why? I like the hilly fairytale landscapes with the topiary gardens, ruins and hedgerows, etc. I would love to live in the British Isles and walk among those places. I realize that it gets cold and it is frequently cloudy there. I like a cloudy day now and then but too many can be depressing. Here in Florida, it is sunny most of the time. It is also hot and humid most of the time. We need to have the air conditioning on at least eight months each year. What I mainly dislike about Florida is the terrain. It is flat and modern housing developments are everywhere. There are no mountains at all and very few hills or valleys. To me, this gives one a sense of perspective when you are up on a hill looking over the landscape. Here in florida, out in the country (what's left of it) it is just flat palmetto scrub and thin pine trees in the interior. The beaches at sunset are nice when they aren't too crowded but otherwise you cannot walk anywhere. If you approach a field or lake that hasn't been developed yet, you aren't allowed to get too close because they are always fenced off with 'no tress-passing ' signs everywhere. Yet I meet people from England or Ireland who have moved here and it baffles me. Do you realize how truly beautiful your countries are?
This is awesome poetry people - I'd like to share and hear your comments? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkdBoV6wvSI I wrote a poem about this piece of artwork (done by Carol Cohen) earlier today. After I wrote the poem I e-mailed the artist, and she got back to me within an hour. As you can sort of see - on the "waves" of the piece there are words painted. So I asked her what those words were. The following is the story ... “LITTLE COMPTON” TEXT - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Seaconnet, R.I. ... August 22, 1869 Three or four weeks ago, during the latter heats of July, I accepted an invitation to visit the house of a poet who lives not far from the rocky headlands and foaming sea-beaches that lie along the south eastern extremity of Little Rhody's wave-washed domain, a wild, outlying section of her shore known to the aborigines as Seaconnet, or the "Haunt of the Seabirds". Avoiding the stage route and taking a private conveyance on the arrival, at Bristol Ferry, of the afternoon boat from Providence, I crossed at Stone Bridge and drove down the old road by the shore to the sea-side home where I was due at supper time. It was an old, old road, innocent of stages or railroad crossings, loitering along at its own leisure among meadows and cornfields and old farmhouses and older orchards, their gnarled branches warped and twisted, as we approached the land's end, by the bitter sea-winds that sweep over them in winter, and looking like the Demon-haunted woodlands in Dore's illustrations of the Inferno. Now, the road lost itself between thick hedges of wild-rose and elder-bloom and purple orchids, overshadowed by hoary willows and clambering grapevines; and, now, opened up broad views of the dark blue ocean that made the heart leap with their sudden splendor. It was a pleasant home that welcomed me on that beautiful July evening. How cool and refreshing to a dweller in the sultry city were the vaporous winds that blew over the new-mown meadows and across the wild rose hedges that bordered the roadside. How delicious the breath of the sweet briar that floated in at night through the ever open window! There is an inexpressible charm in the life we lead here -- so free, so untrammeled, so social, so kindly, so restful! Sometimes we stroll down to the shore, and listen to the pulses of the sea, sometimes we climb the granite stairs of a great rock that overlooks the ocean, colossal stairs, carpeted with short grass and embroidered with the crimson-fruited vines of the blackberry, for the season is late here and fruits ripen slowly. All through the golden afternoon we sit in the vine-wreathed doorway and look over wild-rose hedges -- over orchards and cornfields and meadows newly mown, to the dark line of woodlands that bounds the eastern horizon. ** (excerpts from the journal of Sarah Helen Whitman, 1869; as printed in an anthology, “Notes on Little Compton ” compiled by Benjamin Franklin Wilbour, edited by C.C. Brownell and published by the Little Compton Historical Society, 1970) (note from Carol Cohen: Sarah Helen Whitman was a Providence RI poet of the mid 1800's who at one point in her life was involved with-- courted by -- Edgar Allen Poe. You can do a library search for her published poetry. Seaconnet or Sakonnet which is part of Little Compton RI is still pretty wonderfully much the same as it was then, except for motorcars. It is the easternmost town in RI, in the east bay part of the state, which used to belong to Plymouth colony and MA a long time ago. OH MY GOD I never meant to post a video I meant to post the SCULPTURE how embarassing http://www.carolcohen.com/graphics/cc_swimmer.jpg My idiot moment of the day. What video was that anyway?? Oh lord. I need to take a nap.
My husband and I are relocating from IL just outside of St. Louis, MO. Where should we go? We want warm!!!? We are both in education ( he is a high school math teacher and I am a speech therapist). We want to live somewhere that is warm all year round, is beautiful, a family environment, and a low crime rate. We are not rich...we are teachers :). We need an affordable place but a place that is nice. We do want kids soon...so a family place is preferred. We have looked in south florida (palm beach county, lee county, tampa bay etc...) We have also looked into Arizona. I like Chandler or Scottsdale. I would love personal opinions from those who live in places...not just what you think. My family will likely follow me and I have 2 younger sisters who are 4 so I would love to find a great area with great weather!! Thanks in advance!!!

need help with this rhyming poem? i am writing this poem for my friend..... it was a sweet lil poem now it's just silly Hi lil love I just wanted to say that even when I feel blue or grey you always do things to brighten my day with the many ways you are merry and gay like days when you call me shanaynay or dared me to order chardonnay. Maybe next week we can make something out of clay Perhaps a cup, a bowl, or even an ashtray And possibly sell them on ebay As long as it’s nothing cliché Horses might neigh Donkeys may bray But we as people say YAY!!!! even on the days when our hair may look like a toupee i can promise you our friendship will be here to stay. You are beautiful my friend don’t fray You could be a model and walk down the runway When I get married on my wedding day Will you be crazy and dance down the aisleway And instead of throwing flowers hold my bouquet When you’re sad on my heart it does weigh But I know Jesus will cast your cares away I like the safe smell of your appletini spray I am glad are pheremones are in one array durning that time I know someone we can slay For 2011 can we participate in hogmanay Maybe this summer we can swim in a bay For easter on the beach we can lay Pretending we were on castaway I hope we don’t get stung by an ugly lil stingray Maybe then our periods will delay I looked up the word radioimmunoassay But the meaning I couldn’t really relay I am sorry I embarrassed you with a public display When I chalked your name on the pathway I am now thankful I don’t graduate in may Not only will i be with you on your birthday But we have another semester to laugh and play So to that I say HURRAY!!!! All our memories I have to replay Because our laughter will never decay. Our friendship is sweeter then cremebrulee This was once a poem but is now an essay I just wanted to convey Your trust I will never betray Even if we go astray And happen to go a separate way But I know your in my life to stay For all that you have done I could never repay I heart your face more than words can say B/c of you(& jesus too) I know that it will all be okay We will be friends forever this I pray I know I am not earnest Hemmingway But I hope you like it anyway I just hope this poem will fully portray That you my friend are……… but i need to use more words....please help the point is for it to be ridiculous and see how many different words we can rhyme with ay. i have a list of words.... i am just having trouble putting them in a sentence
Does the Bible try to explain God's intense love for barren landscapes, sand, and desert climates? The top ten most beautiful places on earth are as follows: 1. Grand Canyon, Arizona 2. Poipu Beach, Kauai, Hawaii 3. Ninh Van Bay, Nha Trang, Vietnam 4. Arches National Park, Utah 5. Blue Mountain Peak, Jamaica 6. Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania 7. Mount Fuji, Japan 8. The Florida Keys 9. Napa Valley, California 10. El Yunque Rainforest, Puerto Rico Yet our omniscient and omnipotent God chose to plant his Garden of Eden in the middle of the Iraqi desert, a harsh environment with little rainfall and extreme temperatures. What exactly was He thinking?????
What do you think of the reigning Miss Universe's description of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba? A "relaxing, calm, beautiful place" may not be everyone's description of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where the United States holds about 240 prisoners in a detention center that has drawn condemnation from around the world. But this was the opinion of reigning Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela, who visited the U.S. naval facility in eastern Cuba this month on a trip organized by the United Service Organizations (USO) which supports U.S. troops. The Guantanamo Bay base, whose presence Cuba's government has contested as illegal for years, is used by U.S. authorities as a prison camp for foreign terrorism suspects. Critics have condemned it as a symbol of abuses in Washington's war on terrorism launched after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Caracas-born Mendoza, 22, who visited the facility March 20-25 along with Miss USA Crystle Stewart, 27, enthused about her Guantanamo trip as an "incredible experience" in a blog entry posted on the Miss Universe website dated March 27, 2009 (http://www.missuniverse.com/missuniverse/blog.php). "It was a lots of fun!," Mendoza wrote, describing how she and Stewart met U.S. military personnel and took rides around the camp, which is encircled by a barbed-wire fenced, minefields and watchtowers. She said they also visited a bar on the base and the "unbelievable" beach there. "We visited the Detainees camps and we saw the jails, where they shower, how the(y) recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books. It was very interesting," she wrote."I didn't want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful," she added.Former detainees and human rights groups have alleged the use of torture, including "waterboarding" (simulated drowning) and other physical abuses, at the Guantanamo prison. Britain announced last week it would investigate whether members of its secret services were complicit in the torture of a British resident released from Guantanamo Bay last month. Before the visit, USO had announced Mendoza and Stewart were being "deployed" to Guantanamo on an entertainment tour to visit U.S. troops abroad to "boost morale."
Literature... Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold!? so we had to do a paper on this poem and as this is my FIRST ever for English Literature, i am kinda worried so i wanted to get opinions! i am in the 10th Grade btw :) so here it goes: Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold Arnold mentions how such sorrows have long engulfed our world. The poem of course was written about the Dover Beach what sets it apart from any other picturesque admiration of a place is that he talks of how in a world as beautiful as this faith and hope has left men. He found it hard to succumb to the thought that science could provide any parallel to religion and feared the absolute loss of belief in God. The poem therefore talks of a light on the French coast which comes for a fleeting moment and is gone. The "light" that Arnold writes of represents the idea of Faith in people. Arnold begins the poem by describing an enchanting view of the white cliffs of Dover: the cliffs gleam, the night air brings sweet scents, and the bay below is tranquil with the exception of the foamy white breakers that send up plumes of spray. The poet describes the beauty of the beach situated in the town of Dover. It is closer to France than any other port city in England. The "straits" that has been mentioned is the Strait of Dover, north of the English Channel and south of the North Sea. Each expression that talks of the place tends to describe not just the place in itself but also points indirectly at the state of the world. Perhaps Arnold saw in the sea meeting the "moon-blanched" land, the idea of beauty so terribly real that it hurts the heart. And in the "great roar" he heard the endless attacks on the church by the scientists of the time. That could be why the beautiful rhythm of the water beating through the rocks brought "the eternal note of sadness". This scene, while lovely, does not bring the observer joy. Instead, Arnold writes, "Listen! you hear the grating roar / Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling, / At their return, up the high strand, / Begin, and cease, and then again begin, / With tremulous cadence slow, and bring / The eternal note of sadness in." The poet draws a parallel between the pebbles trapped in the tide's cycle of ebb and flow and the similarly cyclical forces that have throughout history brought suffering to humankind. The second stanza connects Arnold's sense of sadness in the sea to the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles' tragic sensibility. "Sophocles long ago / Heard it on the Aegean, and it brought / Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow / Of human misery; we / Find also in the sound a thought, / Hearing it by this distant northern sea." By attributing his own interpretation of the sound of the sea as a metaphor for the relentless nature of human sadness to the ancient Sophocles, Arnold expresses that this sadness, like the tides, is both timeless and inevitable. His despair has no ending as he then talks of "The Sea of Faith" which used to wrap around us like an ocean wraps around continents. That sea has now withdrawn leaving the "naked shingles". Science has challenged the precepts of theology and religion; human misery makes people feel abandoned, lonely. For the loss of Faith has left them with nothing but despair. While the second stanza described the tide of human sadness as eternal, this third stanza implies that this sadness has recently been worsened by the degeneration of faith, either to a higher power or toward one another. He implores his beloved wife to be true to him. While these lines can be considered as being addressed to his wife, they can also be taken as general message to all people in the world. He explains how in a world which falsely claims to be a land of dreams but in actual fact has "really neither joy, nor love, nor light, nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain" , we all have a duty if not a right to at least be true to our loved ones. While science is what challenged the faith then, it is war that challenges our faith in each other now. Dover Beach is indeed a poem beyond its times for the mere fact that the world still lies on the brink of darkness and the only way it can be saved is by Faith, if not faith in God then at least by faith in our own hearts. The poet claims that the dazzling beauties of the natural world contain no true joy for humanity. Instead, we make our way through the world like soldiers caught up in a night battle, frightened, confused, knowing neither why we fight nor whom we struggle against. Only by remaining true in love, and perhaps thereby restoring to some extent the Sea of Faith, can we anchor ourselves to something good in the world of confusion and misery. Dover Beach is Arnold's message to the world to save itself from its own sea of sorrows. What interested me in the piece of literature is that while the world seemed to be plagued then with lack of Faith, it still seems to be wilting due to the same problems. And that for me is a positive sign for if the world managed to survi @fiesty - when we were doing this poem our teacher was telling us all this stuff and some of the lines are what she has told us and i have merged it into my own writing
Vermillion Bay Ontario Canada? I'm currently trying to plan a vacation to Vermillion Bay area for this May-June-ish. Its a trip for me and five other girl friends. We chose this area because we love fishing, boating, canoeing, water skiing etc. I visited this area when I was younger and it was incredibly beautiful. We want to do this area because we are all sorority girls but aren't the ones that want to go lie on a beach somewhere for the summer. Just do something different. Can someone point me in the right direction on where to find resorts that have cottages/cabins that could provide us with the things listed above. I was on Cedar Lake when I was little but its primarily muskie fishing. It doesn't nessessarily have to be Vermillion bay but we'd like to keep it in that area since we are driving from Chicago-area and don't want to drive much father north. Just some resort names or lake names that would help me find a place to go would be very helpful...thanks!
Poem "Dover Beach" by Matthew Arnorld? Can anyone give me a paragraph analysis of this poem. I want to see what other peoples analysis. im making an essay of campare and contrast eabout my analysis and other people analysis. "Dover Beach" The sea is calm to-night. The tide is full, the moon lies fair Upon the straits;--on the French coast, the light Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand, Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay. Come to the window, sweet is the night-air! Only, from the long line of spray Where the ebb meets the moon-blanch'd sand, Listen! you hear the grating roar Of pebbles which the waves suck back, and fling, At their return, up the high strand, Begin, and cease, and then again begin, With tremulous cadence slow, and bring The eternal note of sadness in. Sophocles long ago Heard it on the Ægean, and it brought Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow Of human misery; we Find also in the sound a thought, Hearing it by this distant northern sea. The Sea of Faith Was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furl'd. But now I only hear Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar, Retreating, to the breath Of the night-wind, down the vast edges drear And naked shingles of the world. Ah, love, let us be true To one another! for the world, which seems To lie before us like a land of dreams, So various, so beautiful, so new, Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light, Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain; And we are here as on a darkling plain Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight, Where ignorant armies clash by night.
Which is better: Northern or Southern California? Why? Well, for me I can't really decide; as I lived in Orange County, CA with my family, from in 1984-1987, and have visited LA and SD counties myriads of times...but I've never been to Northern California at all. My father who's been to San Francisco, said that it was the most beautiful city to he's been in America; although he toured many states in America; including NY state (along with NYC), New England (including Boston), DC area, Florida, Louisiana, and Minnesota. Though he told me that the American East was actually wealthier and more luxurious than the West, he still insists that SF was the best city he's ever been to in USA. So, to those who've been to both, which is better? Why? Could it be true that the SF Bay Area with only 8 million people could beat the South with 24 million people? Could SF, SJ, Palo Alto, Los Altos, etc beat LA, Long Beach, SD, etc?? Is it cleanliness, facillities, friendliness, safety, luxury, what could be the reasons??
Do you find this true? AQUARIUS Jan 21 - Feb 19 Ruling Planet: URANUS. The God of unexpected sexual twists and turns Aquarians make much better friends than lovers, but when a typical Aquarian gets some bang-bang, it's more an intellectual experience than an emotional one. Looks aren't important to Aquarians in a relationship, it's the mind and spirit of a lover that turns Aquarius on.They are very entertaining in bed and are probably the most inventive of all the signs.Mental stimulation is more important to them than physical, which means that pornography gets them hot! Aquarians are impatient and like sex to be fast and satisfying. They are very particular about hygiene and contraception and sleeping around holds little interest for them. FAVE POSITION Mutual masturbation. BEST SEX TOY A Dildo. Whether gay, straight, male or female, Aquarians will have some fun with this. AQUARIUS MALE IN BED He has amazing staying power in the sack. He can keep at it and control himself for as long as it takes for YOU to finish! He's up for anything too. Role playing, S&M, posing nude in the backyard at 5am... he's just not into 3somes, swinging or open relationships if YOU are involved. He'll do that for fun, but not with the love of his life. AQUARIUS FEMALE IN BED She's looking for a lover who will be upfront with her, but until she finds him, she will make do with whoever is available. LOVE freaks her out. She likes keeping her emotions under tight control and may come across as cold, but she's just protecting herself. THE BEST WAY TO TURN ON AQUARIUS Lie down as if you are top and tailing and gently tickle and stroke the ankles and the calves. Don't tickle for giggles, but tease. After awhile, do the same with your tongue. Lick up, down and all around. Anywhere above the foot and below the knee is fair game. Lightly nip the ankle of your Aquarian, they may laugh, but it's not laughter from tickles, it's a release of tension that will most definitely lead to some action! PISCES Feb 20 - March 20 Ruling Planet: NEPTUNE The God in charge of delicious dreams, dangerous deceptions and sexual fantasies Sexually speaking, Pisces is putty in your hands. Anything you want, anything, is only a question away. If you're looking for someone who will go the extra mile to discover all your secret moan zones, then Pisces is for you! When a typical Piscean makes out, it's an act of romance rather than pure pleasure. Pisces is the sign of love itself. They are so romantic and want satin sheets and candles, poetry and a full moon. Music also gets them in the mood. One of their least appetizing traits is their ability to become very, very jealous. Sometimes they are so scared of losing the fairy-tale romance that they ruin the happy ending themselves. FAVE POSITION Pisces is all about Oral affections! BEST SEX TOY A copy of the Kama Sutra, since your fish is into almost anything PISCES MALE IN BED He is romantic and has the reputation of being a womanizer. The girlfriend of a Piscean man should keep her eye on the ball as he can be a bit flighty. But he does make an excellent lover. He's from the old school that sex should be an almost out of body experience, and if he's showering his attentions on you, you're in for a hell of a good ride! PISCES FEMALE IN BED She needs romance. It's the very air that she breathes. She needs to be held gently and whispered sweet nothings to but when it comes to between the sheets action, she's never happy doing the same ol', same ol' when she knows there are more exciting options at hand. THE BEST WAY TO TURN ON PISCES The Pisces Zesty-zone is their feet! If you want to make Pisces your Love Slave, start with a warm, scented footbath and soak their feet for 10 minutes. Then sit in front of them, cross-legged, and rub their feet firmly through the water. Use kneading motions that run from their ankles to the tips of their toes. After 5 minutes, get a scrub brush and clean their tootsies with lots of TLC, dry them off and lightly massage peppermint oil all over their feet, paying close attention to between their toes. Pisces REALLY gets off on this! Once oiled up, gently kiss each toe, one by one. Then let your tongue take over and you're in baby!!! ARIES March 21-April 20 Ruling Planet: MARS The bonk now/think later God of War, aggression and action! Sexually, Aries is an explosion waiting to happen! The excitement is often in the chase more than the actual conquest though and while they may appear to want to dominate, they do not want a submissive partner. Routine brings boredom to sex for Aries, so if you're only comfortable with the missionary position, go for another sign, but if you like forceful personalities and enjoy pretending you're a human Twistie, then you've found paradise with an Aries. FAVE POSITION Always on top and always in charge BEST SEX TOY Handcuffs! Like I said, Aries likes to take charge! ARIES MALE IN BED The Aries male is loud, domineering and 100% stud! He's not prone to cheat unless you bore him in bed and he likes sex fast and furious baby! ARIES FEMALE IN BED She views sex as more of a physical act than something from a soppy romance novel. If you're a bored exec and want to find out what it's like to be treated like a piece of meat, then go for a one night stand with an Aries chick. She'll be gone before you wake up and may not remember your name the next time you meet. She's got a touch of KINK to her personality so don't get freaked out when she talks dirty or puts you over her knee for a spanking. She's all woman, but are you man enough to handle her? THE BEST WAY TO TURN ON ARIES If you want to seduce an Aries, running your fingers through their hair is an awesome starting point! And licking and nibbling around their face or neck will get them going too! Just be careful to keep your saliva at bay. Drool is not cool! Taurus has all the qualities a lover desires, including sensuality, loyalty and faithfulness. When a typical Taurus makes love, it's the most physical and natural pleasure in the world. They believe the romantic approach to sex almost always pays off so they will happily cook dinner, buyflowers, and light candles for someone they wanna bang. GEMINI May 22 - June 21 Ruling Planet: MERCURY The swiftest God in the skies, who also happens to be in charge of ultr-extreme raunchy talk Talking about sex is Gemini's favourite hobby and doing it comes a close second.Gemini's love flirting and lap up attention from the opposite sex, but sometimes that's all they're looking for. They need a lot of variety when it comes to sex - dirty weekends away, a quickie in a shop doorway, serious groping under the table at a fancy restaurant. A lot of Gemini's are bisexual too and can often be drawn to those of the same sex. FAVE POSITION As long as it's different every time, they're not fussy, but if they must choose, it's that naughty number right after 68, since they can come up for air if they need to. BEST SEX TOY Any illustrated book about kinky sex, so Gemini can pick up some wild, new ideas GEMINI MALE IN BED He likes to give AND receive and can be quite inventive. They love a good massage and their hands are so sensitive that even having their fingernails played with sends shivers up their spine! Kiss up and down each of your Gemini's arms, sneak in a few licks, nips and nibbles. If you get one or two yelps, then you know you're doing something right.then, move onto the fingers, slowly kiss, lick, nip and nibble each fingertip, then pull out the killer move - suck on each finger, slowly, as if it's a lollipop. I'll almost offer a money back guarantee on this one working! CANCER June 22 - July 23 Ruling Planet: THE MOON Which isn't a planet at all but the satellite responsible for this water sign's many mood swings! Love and sex go together for Cancer. THE BEST WAY TO TURN ON CANCER Concentrate on the breasts and pecs of Cancer to really get them going.Start by kissing and brushing up against them. Licking the Cancer female's nipple through her top will excite her, but don't 'dive right in' coz you're likely to scare her. It's the complete opposite for the Cancer male who will LOVE it if you get straight to the point. Squeeze his pecs and bite his bod and you'll have him bouncing off the walls in no time! LEO July 24 - August 23 Ruling Planet: THE SUN Which isn't a planet at all, but a star, and just like Leo's opinion of themselves, it's the centre of our solar system! Leos can be very 'into themselves' when they bonk. It's not that they don't make their partner feel special, it's just that they often forget about them as they secretlyhigh-five themselves for scoring again! They can be very romantic, but when they get into bed, it's not an experience they're about to have, it's a show! They like to perform... and they take requests! THE BEST WAY TO TURN ON LEO A Leo's 'moan zone' is his or her back. First of all, ask your Leo to roll onto his/her tummy. Start with a gentle scratch that runs from the top of the ass to the base of the skull. I'm not talking about tender tickles or a tantalizing tease - I mean a REAL back scratch, coz if there's one thing cats love, it's a scratch! After a minute or so, get out the massage oil and spill it into a snakey pattern on Leo's back. Then rub all over. Keep doing this until you know Leo is ready to roll over. If they start falling asleep, give them a gentle prod in a delicate place! Once Leo is ready to roll over, don't let them! Leo will be excited by your control. They may want you to THINK they are all sweet and virginal, but they are definitely NOT!However, Virgos are looking for a long term partner, not a one night stand or an affair! They tend to seduce with finesse, charm and sublety so you may not even realize you're being lured by a Virgo!! Once Virgo has been in a relationship for awhile, they get engrossed in housework and things like that, which can cause a serious dip in libido. Do NOT let this happen! Librans are more turned on 'giving' than 'receiving'. They have a big heart and are the least selfish sign of the Zodiac. Libras are not very open about their thoughts or fantasies. She is a wildly passionate woman, who is DYNAMO is the bedroom.Just don't piss her off either, coz she can more vengeful than a Scorpio man, and she has no problem causing a scene! Don't talk about other women, or play hard to get, because she will get u back, and it's a game of one-upmanship you will never win. THE BEST WAY TO TURN ON SCORPIO Since this is one of the horniest signs, it makes sense that their moan zone is between their legs! Then again, their big head (or their mind) is just as easy to turn on. Talking dirty and teasing your Scorpio will get them ready and randy in a flash!! Without getting too graphic, the magic words for today are RUB, RUB, RUB. SAGITTARIUS November 23 - December 22 Ruling Planet: JUPITER, God of money, luck and good times between the sheets. Sagos are playful, laid back and oh-so fun to party with. They are wild, and may be the BADDEST party people you ever meet! One thing to be wary of is that Sagos like to talk BULLSHIT! Don't believe everything they tell you because they are kings at 'talking it up'.Sagos probably make better friends than lovers, but if you happen to score a one-nighter with them,be prepared to do stuff you've NEVER done before!Sagos are spontaneous and adventurous and most have probably been caught doing it somewhere public. When they find the right lover, they will give it 100% as long as the commitment is returned. FAVE POSITION: They are up for anything. Quality AND Quantity. BEST SEX TOY: Handwrite a sexual fantasy of yours and leave it on their pillow. You'll be surprised at what happens next! He is a wee bit selfish though, so be prepared for an "all about me" attitude in the sack. He LOVES doing it, and if you start holding out on him, he's likely to get it somewhere else.He will either amaze his partner with his sexual expertise or be absolute trash in bed! SAGITTARIAN FEMALE IN BED The Sago woman is a handful! She changes her mind more often than she shaves her armpits, is blunt, oversensitive and takes offense at the strangest things. She's adventurous in the bedroom and also has no problems cheating if her needs are not fulfilled. But can u handle her open-minded sexuality? She will hide her emotions from you, but don't make the mistake of hiding yours from her. She's looking for someone she can trust 100%, but is quite hypocritical since she can be very untrustworthy herself. THE BEST WAY TO TURN ON SAGITTARIUS Hips and thighs are extremely sensual for a Sago, so concentrate on massaging and stroking that area and the place in between! Don't be afraid to ask your Sago if you're doing it right coz they would LOVE to tell you! The best way to get them going is to grope their inner thigh in a public place! CAPRICORN December 23 - January 20 Ruling Planet: SATURN - The God who oversees time, discipline and dedication, which means Capricorn can go the distance - with major staying power - in bed and beyond!! BEST SEX TOY: An office desk to "bond" on, or an erotic video will loosen up the randy goat. CAPRICORN FEMALE IN BED She is strong and confident and likes to run the show! She's a tough nut to crack but once inside her shell, she's as sweet as caramel. Her fave position may be missionary, but she seeks excitement in new locations, so experiment with different venues to keep it interesting. THE BEST WAY TO TURN ON CAPRICORN Capricorns are the most anal signs of the zodiac, so buttering them up will take a bit of effort. Believe it or not, their erotic area is the knees! Lightly stroke their legs, paying close attention to the knee region. Licking, kissing, and nibbling the area will get them squirming ok you opened it and read it so guess what u gotta repost it ...
My newest poem, written in free form. I was influenced mostly by the beat poets of the 1950s.? I'm feeling again what a feeling it is filled with ecstasy and utter happiness at being through around ahead looking forward to what waits for me up the road. It has arms opened wide and a warm spark wafting on the air but I am afraid of what lies in my way in between. Years of heavy rotation and seductive insights in a separated apartment from society because this society has no love for thinkers for them it's easier to be sheep I guess that makes me a goat. Years will pass before I make my way back to the bay and her city lights crimson lips and bridges swaying drunk beautiful people and jazz and swing cats smoking mints and tossing more than they can keep. And the college student who sleeps on two mattresses pushed together on the dirty floorboards with a bookcase filled up with beat authors and desperate poets. I lounge in his room, with a cigarette and watch the drunkenly conservative liberals drive back up the hills in their shiny chrome silver-blue future boxes because that’s all they are: silver boxes. And as we pass the wine back and forth We remember past masters of the northern beach scene With madmen who would scream into open mikes And the audience would simply, Click.

What to wear for Vow Renewal? OK - my husband and I are renewing our vows on the beach in Hawaii November 28th - our 20th anniversary. Originally, we were going to have a party here and I purchased an e-bay dress which I loved - but it's way too much dress for the beach. When we decided to go to Hawaii (couldn't deal with my mother telling me what to do, even though I'm 49 and obviously paying for the whole thing - yes girls, it happens even when you are my age) I purchased a white sundress. The problem? I don't like it much. So my question is, have any of you helpful people seen a white dress that would be beach ceremony friendly, but could be worn during the day as well? I'm 5'9", size 16 and please no strapless. I find that very uncomfortable. A halter is fine though. One I could wear with my bra would be even better! AND I have to be able to buy it off the rack, since I'm pretty much out of time. I would prefer not floor length, but could cut it off if need be. But - can't be too short - 5 knee surgeries have left me with "road map" knees. I also really like chiffon or silk as opposed to all satin. You guys always come up with the most beautiful bridesmaid dresses, I thought I would give it a shot. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you! The e-bay dress was totally appropriate for winter in Oklahoma, not the beach in Hawaii. It's way too heavy. I'd probably hot flash myself to death! But, I'm saving it for my 25th. We're going to renew our vows at Niagara Falls. For 30, Alaska - if we live that long!!!!!
2 Navy Seals drowned ? 1989-1991 Pensacola News Journal? I lived in Pensacola 1988-1992. In a Sunday Pensacola News Journal there was an article about two Navy Seals ages @ 23 & 25 had drowned in rough water conditions at Navarre Beach while their wives watched helpless in horror @ 1:30pm clear sunny skies. I haven't contacted the Pensacola News Journal to see if someone can find that article. I searched MSN, Yahoo, Google, Ask.com, obituary archives for Navarre Beach & greater Pensacola & Navy website, couldn't find. Thought if anyone knows if Navy keeps death records private? (Details in length, thank you very much if anyone takes time to read through. PLEASE don't send me nasty or sarcastic replies. I've survived hell in countless ways over decades & still have alot to get through. We were less than 1/2 mile from where it occurred (because of curves in shoreline couldn't see that far) with 5 young boys my 2 sons included. Like most times when there beach was deserted except this day a few college guys were @ 75ft from us. Despite clear sunny weather, Gulf was rough with waves quite high. Boys wanted to swim (3 of 5 exc swimmers) & frolic in waves, right away I forbade them and at worst ankle deep to get water for sandcastles etc. No lifeguards, undertow & rough waves stirred up sand, rocks...wasn't the usual crystal clear aqua water and I was non-swimmer. I said a few times I'd rather bring them to bay side where water is more calm & they could have a great time. They protested, promised they'd make sand castles, bury eachother in the sand, throw frisbee, balls, picnic etc. Against my gut feelings & stressed with worry I sat down in beachchair abouu 25 ft away, book in hand, mirrored sunglasses so they couldn't see I was watching them instead of reading. Got something out of cooler, when I looked up the boldest of them (11yr old) was in water to his calves, got knocked over by crashing waves, dragged out with undertow over his head in seconds. Saw the horror in his eyes he couldn't get back to shore. Terrorizing time that in milli-seconds I had to decide to go in after him before he was too far out and knowing odds were great I'd drown trying to save him plus my sons and 2 of their friends would be on beach without me. They didn't even notice what was happening while playing and I didn't have time to explain. I couldn't live without having tried to save him so I prayed to Jesus and his Mother Mary to protect me, I didn't want to die, begged them to save us. I looked quickly at the college guys who saw what was happening and of course they didn't want to risk helping. In tears I decided asap to give it my all before he was too far out to reach. (I had nearly drowned as a kid so the fear of water over my head plus conditions were traumatic). Waves crashed over my head with such force, I didn't have chance to breath and undertow made my legs sink to my knees in sand every step, pulling legs back out I kept hearing "just one step at a time, stay calm..." over and over. His arms outstretched I thought if I could grab his wrist, I wouldn't let go even if it meant breaking his arm to get him out...grabbed his wrist, turned around and getting us both to shore was more difficult plus fear he'd slip from my hand. We made it to shore he was so traumatized, vomitting, shaking, speechless...no reprimand needed he suffered enough. I thanked Jesus, Mary, God and all His Divine to save us from drowning. Over 5 yrs. I couldn't speak a word of the incident without crying uncontrollably, post-traumatic syndrome I guess. The rest of the week I couldn't understand how Gulf was so rough with beautiful weather conditions. In Sunday's Pensacola News Journal, there was an article that during same time I was dealing with our situation, 2 Navy Seals had drowned in same water conditions so close to us but not visible because of the shoreline curves. Two young healthy strong men, who had already achieved Navy Seal status lost their lives. Their wives couldn't help and had to watch them die struggling to get out. The article mentioned explained that because a tropical storm had ended just a few days before that was why the water were still rough. So water wasn't just rough before and during the storm, it can take a few days after to subside. Not having been raised near water, this was so important to know. The article also mentioned how tourists lose their lives not knowing this plus countless beachgoers don't know how to spot riptides or get out of them when caught in them. The article was testimony to the Divine powers that saved us that day in conditions beyond human strength. I knew the many kinds of training, knowledge and disciplines that must be mastered before officially achieving Seal. Divine blessings two lives saved and beyond my comprehension two wonderful men lost their lives about the same time. Respectfully thankful. Don, thanks so much for your time & help, I can't find a way to send you msg than add an edit. I will try your suggestion. (couldn't edit my question for typos & reducing after I clicked submit.)

What does this POEM mean?? Dover Beach The sea is calm to-night. The tide is full, the moon lies fair Upon the straits;--on the French coast the light Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand, Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay. Come to the window, sweet is the night-air! Only, from the long line of spray Where the sea meets the moon-blanch'd land, Listen! you hear the grating roar Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling, At their return, up the high strand, Begin, and cease, and then again begin, With tremulous cadence slow, and bring The eternal note of sadness in.

San Juan i
Which is better: Northern or Southern California?
Poll: Did you like The Oddysey or The Iliad better? I liked the Iliad better. This was my favorite part: Sing, O goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Achaeans. Many a brave soul did it send hurrying down to Hades, and many a hero did it yield a prey to dogs and vultures, for so were the counsels of Jove fulfilled from the day on which the son of Atreus, king of men, and great Achilles, first fell out with one another. And which of the gods was it that set them on to quarrel? It was the son of Jove and Leto; for he was angry with the king and sent a pestilence upon the host to plague the people, because the son of Atreus had dishonoured Chryses his priest. Now Chryses had come to the ships of the Achaeans to free his daughter, and had brought with him a great ransom: moreover he bore in his hand the sceptre of Apollo wreathed with a suppliant's wreath and he besought the Achaeans, but most of all the two sons of Atreus, who were their chiefs. "Sons of Atreus," he cried, "and all other Achaeans, may the gods who dwell in Olympus grant you to sack the city of Priam, and to reach your homes in safety; but free my daughter, and accept a ransom for her, in reverence to Apollo, son of Jove." On this the rest of the Achaeans with one voice were for respecting the priest and taking the ransom that he offered; but not so Agamemnon, who spoke fiercely to him and sent him roughly away. "Old man," said he, "let me not find you tarrying about our ships, nor yet coming hereafter. Your sceptre of the god and your wreath shall profit you nothing. I will not free her. She shall grow old in my house at Argos far from her own home, busying herself with her loom and visiting my couch; so go, and do not provoke me or it shall be the worse for you." The old man feared him and obeyed. Not a word he spoke, but went by the shore of the sounding sea and prayed apart to King Apollo whom lovely Leto had borne. "Hear me," he cried, "O god of the silver bow, that protectest Chryse and holy Cilla and rulest Tenedos with thy might, hear me oh thou of Sminthe. If I have ever decked your temple with garlands, or burned your thigh-bones in fat of bulls or goats, grant my prayer, and let your arrows avenge these my tears upon the Danaans." Thus did he pray, and Apollo heard his prayer. He came down furious from the summits of Olympus, with his bow and his quiver upon his shoulder, and the arrows rattled on his back with the rage that trembled within him. He sat himself down away from the ships with a face as dark as night, and his silver bow rang death as he shot his arrow in the midst of them. First he smote their mules and their hounds, but presently he aimed his shafts at the people themselves, and all day long the pyres of the dead were burning. For nine whole days he shot his arrows among the people, but upon the tenth day Achilles called them in assembly- moved thereto by Juno, who saw the Achaeans in their death-throes and had compassion upon them. Then, when they were got together, he rose and spoke among them. "Son of Atreus," said he, "I deem that we should now turn roving home if we would escape destruction, for we are being cut down by war and pestilence at once. Let us ask some priest or prophet, or some reader of dreams (for dreams, too, are of Jove) who can tell us why Phoebus Apollo is so angry, and say whether it is for some vow that we have broken, or hecatomb that we have not offered, and whether he will accept the savour of lambs and goats without blemish, so as to take away the plague from us." With these words he sat down, and Calchas son of Thestor, wisest of augurs, who knew things past present and to come, rose to speak. He it was who had guided the Achaeans with their fleet to Ilius, through the prophesyings with which Phoebus Apollo had inspired him. With all sincerity and goodwill he addressed them thus:- "Achilles, loved of heaven, you bid me tell you about the anger of King Apollo, I will therefore do so; but consider first and swear that you will stand by me heartily in word and deed, for I know that I shall offend one who rules the Argives with might, to whom all the Achaeans are in subjection. A plain man cannot stand against the anger of a king, who if he swallow his displeasure now, will yet nurse revenge till he has wreaked it. Consider, therefore, whether or no you will protect me." And Achilles answered, "Fear not, but speak as it is borne in upon you from heaven, for by Apollo, Calchas, to whom you pray, and whose oracles you reveal to us, not a Danaan at our ships shall lay his hand upon you, while I yet live to look upon the face of the earth- no, not though you name Agamemnon himself, who is by far the foremost of the Achaeans." Thereon the seer spoke boldly. "The god," he said, "is angry neither about vow nor hecatomb, but for his priest's sake, whom Agamemnon has dishonoured, in that he would not free his daughter nor take a ransom for her; therefore has he sent these evils upon us, and will yet send others. He will not deliver the Danaans from this pestilence till Agamemnon has restored the girl without fee or ransom to her father, and has sent a holy hecatomb to Chryse. Thus we may perhaps appease him." With these words he sat down, and Agamemnon rose in anger. His heart was black with rage, and his eyes flashed fire as he scowled on Calchas and said, "Seer of evil, you never yet prophesied smooth things concerning me, but have ever loved to foretell that which was evil. You have brought me neither comfort nor performance; and now you come seeing among Danaans, and saying that Apollo has plagued us because I would not take a ransom for this girl, the daughter of Chryses. I have set my heart on keeping her in my own house, for I love her better even than my own wife Clytemnestra, whose peer she is alike in form and feature, in understanding and accomplishments. Still I will give her up if I must, for I would have the people live, not die; but you must find me a prize instead, or I alone among the Argives shall be without one. This is not well; for you behold, all of you, that my prize is to go elsewhither." And Achilles answered, "Most noble son of Atreus, covetous beyond all mankind, how shall the Achaeans find you another prize? We have no common store from which to take one. Those we took from the cities have been awarded; we cannot disallow the awards that have been made already. Give this girl, therefore, to the god, and if ever Jove grants us to sack the city of Troy we will requite you three and fourfold." Then Agamemnon said, "Achilles, valiant though you be, you shall not thus outwit me. You shall not overreach and you shall not persuade me. Are you to keep your own prize, while I sit tamely under my loss and give up the girl at your bidding? Let the Achaeans find me a prize in fair exchange to my liking, or I will come and take your own, or that of Ajax or of Ulysses; and he to whomsoever I may come shall rue my coming. But of this we will take thought hereafter; for the present, let us draw a ship into the sea, and find a crew for her expressly; let us put a hecatomb on board, and let us send Chryseis also; further, let some chief man among us be in command, either Ajax, or Idomeneus, or yourself, son of Peleus, mighty warrior that you are, that we may offer sacrifice and appease the the anger of the god." Achilles scowled at him and answered, "You are steeped in insolence and lust of gain. With what heart can any of the Achaeans do your bidding, either on foray or in open fighting? I came not warring here for any ill the Trojans had done me. I have no quarrel with them. They have not raided my cattle nor my horses, nor cut down my harvests on the rich plains of Phthia; for between me and them there is a great space, both mountain and sounding sea. We have followed you, Sir Insolence! for your pleasure, not ours- to gain satisfaction from the Trojans for your shameless self and for Menelaus. You forget this, and threaten to rob me of the prize for which I have toiled, and which the sons of the Achaeans have given me. Never when the Achaeans sack any rich city of the Trojans do I receive so good a prize as you do, though it is my hands that do the better part of the fighting. When the sharing comes, your share is far the largest, and I, forsooth, must go back to my ships, take what I can get and be thankful, when my labour of fighting is done. Now, therefore, I shall go back to Phthia; it will be much better for me to return home with my ships, for I will not stay here dishonoured to gather gold and substance for you." And Agamemnon answered, "Fly if you will, I shall make you no prayers to stay you. I have others here who will do me honour, and above all Jove, the lord of counsel. There is no king here so hateful to me as you are, for you are ever quarrelsome and ill affected. What though you be brave? Was it not heaven that made you so? Go home, then, with your ships and comrades to lord it over the Myrmidons. I care neither for you nor for your anger; and thus will I do: since Phoebus Apollo is taking Chryseis from me, I shall send her with my ship and my followers, but I shall come to your tent and take your own prize Briseis, that you may learn how much stronger I am than you are, and that another may fear to set himself up as equal or comparable with me." The son of Peleus was furious, and his heart within his shaggy breast was divided whether to draw his sword, push the others aside, and kill the son of Atreus, or to restrain himself and check his anger. While he was thus in two minds, and was drawing his mighty sword from its scabbard, Minerva came down from heaven (for Juno had sent her in the love she bore to them both), and seized the son of Peleus by his yellow hair, visible to him alone, for of the others no man could see her. Achilles turned in amaze, and by the fire that flashed from her eyes at once knew that she was Minerva. "Why are you here," said he, "daughter of aegis-bearing Jove? To see the pride of Agamemnon, son of Atreus? Let me tell you- and it shall surely be- he shall pay for this insolence with his life." And Minerva said, "I come from heaven, if you will hear me, to bid you stay your anger. Juno has sent me, who cares for both of you alike. Cease, then, this brawling, and do not draw your sword; rail at him if you will, and your railing will not be vain, for I tell you- and it shall surely be- that you shall hereafter receive gifts three times as splendid by reason of this present insult. Hold, therefore, and obey." "Goddess," answered Achilles, "however angry a man may be, he must do as you two command him. This will be best, for the gods ever hear the prayers of him who has obeyed them." He stayed his hand on the silver hilt of his sword, and thrust it back into the scabbard as Minerva bade him. Then she went back to Olympus among the other gods, and to the house of aegis-bearing Jove. But the son of Peleus again began railing at the son of Atreus, for he was still in a rage. "Wine-bibber," he cried, "with the face of a dog and the heart of a hind, you never dare to go out with the host in fight, nor yet with our chosen men in ambuscade. You shun this as you do death itself. You had rather go round and rob his prizes from any man who contradicts you. You devour your people, for you are king over a feeble folk; otherwise, son of Atreus, henceforward you would insult no man. Therefore I say, and swear it with a great oath- nay, by this my sceptre which shalt sprout neither leaf nor shoot, nor bud anew from the day on which it left its parent stem upon the mountains- for the axe stripped it of leaf and bark, and now the sons of the Achaeans bear it as judges and guardians of the decrees of heaven- so surely and solemnly do I swear that hereafter they shall look fondly for Achilles and shall not find him. In the day of your distress, when your men fall dying by the murderous hand of Hector, you shall not know how to help them, and shall rend your heart with rage for the hour when you offered insult to the bravest of the Achaeans." With this the son of Peleus dashed his gold-bestudded sceptre on the ground and took his seat, while the son of Atreus was beginning fiercely from his place upon the other side. Then uprose smooth-tongued Nestor, the facile speaker of the Pylians, and the words fell from his lips sweeter than honey. Two generations of men born and bred in Pylos had passed away under his rule, and he was now reigning over the third. With all sincerity and goodwill, therefore, he addressed them thus:- "Of a truth," he said, "a great sorrow has befallen the Achaean land. Surely Priam with his sons would rejoice, and the Trojans be glad at heart if they could hear this quarrel between you two, who are so excellent in fight and counsel. I am older than either of you; therefore be guided by me. Moreover I have been the familiar friend of men even greater than you are, and they did not disregard my counsels. Never again can I behold such men as Pirithous and Dryas shepherd of his people, or as Caeneus, Exadius, godlike Polyphemus, and Theseus son of Aegeus, peer of the immortals. These were the mightiest men ever born upon this earth: mightiest were they, and when they fought the fiercest tribes of mountain savages they utterly overthrew them. I came from distant Pylos, and went about among them, for they would have me come, and I fought as it was in me to do. Not a man now living could withstand them, but they heard my words, and were persuaded by them. So be it also with yourselves, for this is the more excellent way. Therefore, Agamemnon, though you be strong, take not this girl away, for the sons of the Achaeans have already given her to Achilles; and you, Achilles, strive not further with the king, for no man who by the grace of Jove wields a sceptre has like honour with Agamemnon. You are strong, and have a goddess for your mother; but Agamemnon is stronger than you, for he has more people under him. Son of Atreus, check your anger, I implore you; end this quarrel with Achilles, who in the day of battle is a tower of strength to the Achaeans." And Agamemnon answered, "Sir, all that you have said is true, but this fellow must needs become our lord and master: he must be lord of all, king of all, and captain of all, and this shall hardly be. Granted that the gods have made him a great warrior, have they also given him the right to speak with railing?" Achilles interrupted him. "I should be a mean coward," he cried, "were I to give in to you in all things. Order other people about, not me, for I shall obey no longer. Furthermore I say- and lay my saying to your heart- I shall fight neither you nor any man about this girl, for those that take were those also that gave. But of all else that is at my ship you shall carry away nothing by force. Try, that others may see; if you do, my spear shall be reddened with your blood." When they had quarrelled thus angrily, they rose, and broke up the assembly at the ships of the Achaeans. The son of Peleus went back to his tents and ships with the son of Menoetius and his company, while Agamemnon drew a vessel into the water and chose a crew of twenty oarsmen. He escorted Chryseis on board and sent moreover a hecatomb for the god. And Ulysses went as captain. These, then, went on board and sailed their ways over the sea. But the son of Atreus bade the people purify themselves; so they purified themselves and cast their filth into the sea. Then they offered hecatombs of bulls and goats without blemish on the sea-shore, and the smoke with the savour of their sacrifice rose curling up towards heaven. Thus did they busy themselves throughout the host. But Agamemnon did not forget the threat that he had made Achilles, and called his trusty messengers and squires Talthybius and Eurybates. "Go," said he, "to the tent of Achilles, son of Peleus; take Briseis by the hand and bring her hither; if he will not give her I shall come with others and take her- which will press him harder." He charged them straightly further and dismissed them, whereon they went their way sorrowfully by the seaside, till they came to the tents and ships of the Myrmidons. They found Achilles sitting by his tent and his ships, and ill-pleased he was when he beheld them. They stood fearfully and reverently before him, and never a word did they speak, but he knew them and said, "Welcome, heralds, messengers of gods and men; draw near; my quarrel is not with you but with Agamemnon who has sent you for the girl Briseis. Therefore, Patroclus, bring her and give her to them, but let them be witnesses by the blessed gods, by mortal men, and by the fierceness of Agamemnon's anger, that if ever again there be need of me to save the people from ruin, they shall seek and they shall not find. Agamemnon is mad with rage and knows not how to look before and after that the Achaeans may fight by their ships in safety." Patroclus did as his dear comrade had bidden him. He brought Briseis from the tent and gave her over to the heralds, who took her with them to the ships of the Achaeans- and the woman was loth to go. Then Achilles went all alone by the side of the hoar sea, weeping and looking out upon the boundless waste of waters. He raised his hands in prayer to his immortal mother, "Mother," he cried, "you bore me doomed to live but for a little season; surely Jove, who thunders from Olympus, might have made that little glorious. It is not so. Agamemnon, son of Atreus, has done me dishonour, and has robbed me of my prize by force." As he spoke he wept aloud, and his mother heard him where she was sitting in the depths of the sea hard by the old man her father. Forthwith she rose as it were a grey mist out of the waves, sat down before him as he stood weeping, caressed him with her hand, and said, "My son, why are you weeping? What is it that grieves you? Keep it not from me, but tell me, that we may know it together." Achilles drew a deep sigh and said, "You know it; why tell you what you know well already? We went to Thebe the strong city of Eetion, sacked it, and brought hither the spoil. The sons of the Achaeans shared it duly among themselves, and chose lovely Chryseis as the meed of Agamemnon; but Chryses, priest of Apollo, came to the ships of the Achaeans to free his daughter, and brought with him a great ransom: moreover he bore in his hand the sceptre of Apollo, wreathed with a suppliant's wreath, and he besought the Achaeans, but most of all the two sons of Atreus who were their chiefs. "On this the rest of the Achaeans with one voice were for respecting the priest and taking the ransom that he offered; but not so Agamemnon, who spoke fiercely to him and sent him roughly away. So he went back in anger, and Apollo, who loved him dearly, heard his prayer. Then the god sent a deadly dart upon the Argives, and the people died thick on one another, for the arrows went everywhither among the wide host of the Achaeans. At last a seer in the fulness of his knowledge declared to us the oracles of Apollo, and I was myself first to say that we should appease him. Whereon the son of Atreus rose in anger, and threatened that which he has since done. The Achaeans are now taking the girl in a ship to Chryse, and sending gifts of sacrifice to the god; but the heralds have just taken from my tent the daughter of Briseus, whom the Achaeans had awarded to myself. "Help your brave son, therefore, if you are able. Go to Olympus, and if you have ever done him service in word or deed, implore the aid of Jove. Ofttimes in my father's house have I heard you glory in that you alone of the immortals saved the son of Saturn from ruin, when the others, with Juno, Neptune, and Pallas Minerva would have put him in bonds. It was you, goddess, who delivered him by calling to Olympus the hundred-handed monster whom gods call Briareus, but men Aegaeon, for he is stronger even than his father; when therefore he took his seat all-glorious beside the son of Saturn, the other gods were afraid, and did not bind him. Go, then, to him, remind him of all this, clasp his knees, and bid him give succour to the Trojans. Let the Achaeans be hemmed in at the sterns of their ships, and perish on the sea-shore, that they may reap what joy they may of their king, and that Agamemnon may rue his blindness in offering insult to the foremost of the Achaeans." Thetis wept and answered, "My son, woe is me that I should have borne or suckled you. Would indeed that you had lived your span free from all sorrow at your ships, for it is all too brief; alas, that you should be at once short of life and long of sorrow above your peers: woe, therefore, was the hour in which I bore you; nevertheless I will go to the snowy heights of Olympus, and tell this tale to Jove, if he will hear our prayer: meanwhile stay where you are with your ships, nurse your anger against the Achaeans, and hold aloof from fight. For Jove went yesterday to Oceanus, to a feast among the Ethiopians, and the other gods went with him. He will return to Olympus twelve days hence; I will then go to his mansion paved with bronze and will beseech him; nor do I doubt that I shall be able to persuade him." On this she left him, still furious at the loss of her that had been taken from him. Meanwhile Ulysses reached Chryse with the hecatomb. When they had come inside the harbour they furled the sails and laid them in the ship's hold; they slackened the forestays, lowered the mast into its place, and rowed the ship to the place where they would have her lie; there they cast out their mooring-stones and made fast the hawsers. They then got out upon the sea-shore and landed the hecatomb for Apollo; Chryseis also left the ship, and Ulysses led her to the altar to deliver her into the hands of her father. "Chryses," said he, "King Agamemnon has sent me to bring you back your child, and to offer sacrifice to Apollo on behalf of the Danaans, that we may propitiate the god, who has now brought sorrow upon the Argives." So saying he gave the girl over to her father, who received her gladly, and they ranged the holy hecatomb all orderly round the altar of the god. They washed their hands and took up the barley-meal to sprinkle over the victims, while Chryses lifted up his hands and prayed aloud on their behalf. "Hear me," he cried, "O god of the silver bow, that protectest Chryse and holy Cilla, and rulest Tenedos with thy might. Even as thou didst hear me aforetime when I prayed, and didst press hardly upon the Achaeans, so hear me yet again, and stay this fearful pestilence from the Danaans." Thus did he pray, and Apollo heard his prayer. When they had done praying and sprinkling the barley-meal, they drew back the heads of the victims and killed and flayed them. They cut out the thigh-bones, wrapped them round in two layers of fat, set some pieces of raw meat on the top of them, and then Chryses laid them on the wood fire and poured wine over them, while the young men stood near him with five-pronged spits in their hands. When the thigh-bones were burned and they had tasted the inward meats, they cut the rest up small, put the pieces upon the spits, roasted them till they were done, and drew them off: then, when they had finished their work and the feast was ready, they ate it, and every man had his full share, so that all were satisfied. As soon as they had had enough to eat and drink, pages filled the mixing-bowl with wine and water and handed it round, after giving every man his drink-offering. Thus all day long the young men worshipped the god with song, hymning him and chaunting the joyous paean, and the god took pleasure in their voices; but when the sun went down, and it came on dark, they laid themselves down to sleep by the stern cables of the ship, and when the child of morning, rosy-fingered Dawn, appeared they again set sail for the host of the Achaeans. Apollo sent them a fair wind, so they raised their mast and hoisted their white sails aloft. As the sail bellied with the wind the ship flew through the deep blue water, and the foam hissed against her bows as she sped onward. When they reached the wide-stretching host of the Achaeans, they drew the vessel ashore, high and dry upon the sands, set her strong props beneath her, and went their ways to their own tents and ships. But Achilles abode at his ships and nursed his anger. He went not to the honourable assembly, and sallied not forth to fight, but gnawed at his own heart, pining for battle and the war-cry. Now after twelve days the immortal gods came back in a body to Olympus, and Jove led the way. Thetis was not unmindful of the charge her son had laid upon her, so she rose from under the sea and went through great heaven with early morning to Olympus, where she found the mighty son of Saturn sitting all alone upon its topmost ridges. She sat herself down before him, and with her left hand seized his knees, while with her right she caught him under the chin, and besought him, saying- "Father Jove, if I ever did you service in word or deed among the immortals, hear my prayer, and do honour to my son, whose life is to be cut short so early. King Agamemnon has dishonoured him by taking his prize and keeping her. Honour him then yourself, Olympian lord of counsel, and grant victory to the Trojans, till the Achaeans give my son his due and load him with riches in requital." Jove sat for a while silent, and without a word, but Thetis still kept firm hold of his knees, and besought him a second time. "Incline your head," said she, "and promise me surely, or else deny me- for you have nothing to fear- that I may learn how greatly you disdain me." At this Jove was much troubled and answered, "I shall have trouble if you set me quarrelling with Juno, for she will provoke me with her taunting speeches; even now she is always railing at me before the other gods and accusing me of giving aid to the Trojans. Go back now, lest she should find out. I will consider the matter, and will bring it about as wish. See, I incline my head that you believe me. This is the most solemn that I can give to any god. I never recall my word, or deceive, or fail to do what I say, when I have nodded my head." As he spoke the son of Saturn bowed his dark brows, and the ambrosial locks swayed on his immortal head, till vast Olympus reeled. When the pair had thus laid their plans, they parted- Jove to his house, while the goddess quitted the splendour of Olympus, and plunged into the depths of the sea. The gods rose from their seats, before the coming of their sire. Not one of them dared to remain sitting, but all stood up as he came among them. There, then, he took his seat. But Juno, when she saw him, knew that he and the old merman's daughter, silver-footed Thetis, had been hatching mischief, so she at once began to upbraid him. "Trickster," she cried, "which of the gods have you been taking into your counsels now? You are always settling matters in secret behind my back, and have never yet told me, if you could help it, one word of your intentions." "Juno," replied the sire of gods and men, "you must not expect to be informed of all my counsels. You are my wife, but you would find it hard to understand them. When it is proper for you to hear, there is no one, god or man, who will be told sooner, but when I mean to keep a matter to myself, you must not pry nor ask questions." "Dread son of Saturn," answered Juno, "what are you talking about? I? Pry and ask questions? Never. I let you have your own way in everything. Still, I have a strong misgiving that the old merman's daughter Thetis has been talking you over, for she was with you and had hold of your knees this self-same morning. I believe, therefore, that you have been promising her to give glory to Achilles, and to kill much people at the ships of the Achaeans." "Wife," said Jove, "I can do nothing but you suspect me and find it out. You will take nothing by it, for I shall only dislike you the more, and it will go harder with you. Granted that it is as you say; I mean to have it so; sit down and hold your tongue as I bid you for if I once begin to lay my hands about you, though all heaven were on your side it would profit you nothing." On this Juno was frightened, so she curbed her stubborn will and sat down in silence. But the heavenly beings were disquieted throughout the house of Jove, till the cunning workman Vulcan began to try and pacify his mother Juno. "It will be intolerable," said he, "if you two fall to wrangling and setting heaven in an uproar about a pack of mortals. If such ill counsels are to prevail, we shall have no pleasure at our banquet. Let me then advise my mother- and she must herself know that it will be better- to make friends with my dear father Jove, lest he again scold her and disturb our feast. If the Olympian Thunderer wants to hurl us all from our seats, he can do so, for he is far the strongest, so give him fair words, and he will then soon be in a good humour with us." As he spoke, he took a double cup of nectar, and placed it in his mother's hand. "Cheer up, my dear mother," said he, "and make the best of it. I love you dearly, and should be very sorry to see you get a thrashing; however grieved I might be, I could not help for there is no standing against Jove. Once before when I was trying to help you, he caught me by the foot and flung me from the heavenly threshold. All day long from morn till eve, was I falling, till at sunset I came to ground in the island of Lemnos, and there I lay, with very little life left in me, till the Sintians came and tended me." Juno smiled at this, and as she smiled she took the cup from her son's hands. Then Vulcan drew sweet nectar from the mixing-bowl, and served it round among the gods, going from left to right; and the blessed gods laughed out a loud applause as they saw him ing bustling about the heavenly mansion. Thus through the livelong day to the going down of the sun they feasted, and every one had his full share, so that all were satisfied. Apollo struck his lyre, and the Muses lifted up their sweet voices, calling and answering one another. But when the sun's glorious light had faded, they went home to bed, each in his own abode, which lame Vulcan with his consummate skill had fashioned for them. So Jove, the Olympian Lord of Thunder, hied him to the bed in which he always slept; and when he had got on to it he went to sleep, with Juno of the golden throne by his side. Now the other gods and the armed warriors on the plain slept soundly, but Jove was wakeful, for he was thinking how to do honour to Achilles, and destroyed much people at the ships of the Achaeans. In the end he deemed it would be best to send a lying dream to King Agamemnon; so he called one to him and said to it, "Lying Dream, go to the ships of the Achaeans, into the tent of Agamemnon, and say to him word to word as I now bid you. Tell him to get the Achaeans instantly under arms, for he shall take Troy. There are no longer divided counsels among the gods; Juno has brought them to her own mind, and woe betides the Trojans." The dream went when it had heard its message, and soon reached the ships of the Achaeans. It sought Agamemnon son of Atreus and found him in his tent, wrapped in a profound slumber. It hovered over his head in the likeness of Nestor, son of Neleus, whom Agamemnon honoured above all his councillors, and said:- "You are sleeping, son of Atreus; one who has the welfare of his host and so much other care upon his shoulders should dock his sleep. Hear me at once, for I come as a messenger from Jove, who, though he be not near, yet takes thought for you and pities you. He bids you get the Achaeans instantly under arms, for you shall take Troy. There are no longer divided counsels among the gods; Juno has brought them over to her own mind, and woe betides the Trojans at the hands of Jove. Remember this, and when you wake see that it does not escape you." The dream then left him, and he thought of things that were, surely not to be accomplished. He thought that on that same day he was to take the city of Priam, but he little knew what was in the mind of Jove, who had many another hard-fought fight in store alike for Danaans and Trojans. Then presently he woke, with the divine message still ringing in his ears; so he sat upright, and put on his soft shirt so fair and new, and over this his heavy cloak. He bound his sandals on to his comely feet, and slung his silver-studded sword about his shoulders; then he took the imperishable staff of his father, and sallied forth to the ships of the Achaeans. The goddess Dawn now wended her way to vast Olympus that she might herald day to Jove and to the other immortals, and Agamemnon sent the criers round to call the people in assembly; so they called them and the people gathered thereon. But first he summoned a meeting of the elders at the ship of Nestor king of Pylos, and when they were assembled he laid a cunning counsel before them. "My friends," said he, "I have had a dream from heaven in the dead of night, and its face and figure resembled none but Nestor's. It hovered over my head and said, 'You are sleeping, son of Atreus; one who has the welfare of his host and so much other care upon his shoulders should dock his sleep. Hear me at once, for I am a messenger from Jove, who, though he be not near, yet takes thought for you and pities you. He bids you get the Achaeans instantly under arms, for you shall take Troy. There are no longer divided counsels among the gods; Juno has brought them over to her own mind, and woe betides the Trojans at the hands of Jove. Remember this.' The dream then vanished and I awoke. Let us now, therefore, arm the sons of the Achaeans. But it will be well that I should first sound them, and to this end I will tell them to fly with their ships; but do you others go about among the host and prevent their doing so." He then sat down, and Nestor the prince of Pylos with all sincerity and goodwill addressed them thus: "My friends," said he, "princes and councillors of the Argives, if any other man of the Achaeans had told us of this dream we should have declared it false, and would have had nothing to do with it. But he who has seen it is the foremost man among us; we must therefore set about getting the people under arms." With this he led the way from the assembly, and the other sceptred kings rose with him in obedience to the word of Agamemnon; but the people pressed forward to hear. They swarmed like bees that sally from some hollow cave and flit in countless throng among the spring flowers, bunched in knots and clusters; even so did the mighty multitude pour from ships and tents to the assembly, and range themselves upon the wide-watered shore, while among them ran Wildfire Rumour, messenger of Jove, urging them ever to the fore. Thus they gathered in a pell-mell of mad confusion, and the earth groaned under the tramp of men as the people sought their places. Nine heralds went crying about among them to stay their tumult and bid them listen to the kings, till at last they were got into their several places and ceased their clamour. Then King Agamemnon rose, holding his sceptre. This was the work of Vulcan, who gave it to Jove the son of Saturn. Jove gave it to Mercury, slayer of Argus, guide and guardian. King Mercury gave it to Pelops, the mighty charioteer, and Pelops to Atreus, shepherd of his people. Atreus, when he died, left it to Thyestes, rich in flocks, and Thyestes in his turn left it to be borne by Agamemnon, that he might be lord of all Argos and of the isles. Leaning, then, on his sceptre, he addressed the Argives. "My friends," he said, "heroes, servants of Mars, the hand of heaven has been laid heavily upon me. Cruel Jove gave me his solemn promise that I should sack the city of Priam before returning, but he has played me false, and is now bidding me go ingloriously back to Argos with the loss of much people. Such is the will of Jove, who has laid many a proud city in the dust, as he will yet lay others, for his power is above all. It will be a sorry tale hereafter that an Achaean host, at once so great and valiant, battled in vain against men fewer in number than themselves; but as yet the end is not in sight. Think that the Achaeans and Trojans have sworn to a solemn covenant, and that they have each been numbered- the Trojans by the roll of their householders, and we by companies of ten; think further that each of our companies desired to have a Trojan householder to pour out their wine; we are so greatly more in number that full many a company would have to go without its cup-bearer. But they have in the town allies from other places, and it is these that hinder me from being able to sack the rich city of Ilius. Nine of Jove years are gone; the timbers of our ships have rotted; their tackling is sound no longer. Our wives and little ones at home look anxiously for our coming, but the work that we came hither to do has not been done. Now, therefore, let us all do as I say: let us sail back to our own land, for we shall not take Troy." With these words he moved the hearts of the multitude, so many of them as knew not the cunning counsel of Agamemnon. They surged to and fro like the waves of the Icarian Sea, when the east and south winds break from heaven's clouds to lash them; or as when the west wind sweeps over a field of corn and the ears bow beneath the blast, even so were they swayed as they flew with loud cries towards the ships, and the dust from under their feet rose heavenward. They cheered each other on to draw the ships into the sea; they cleared the channels in front of them; they began taking away the stays from underneath them, and the welkin rang with their glad cries, so eager were they to return. Then surely the Argives would have returned after a fashion that was not fated. But Juno said to Minerva, "Alas, daughter of aegis-bearing Jove, unweariable, shall the Argives fly home to their own land over the broad sea, and leave Priam and the Trojans the glory of still keeping Helen, for whose sake so many of the Achaeans have died at Troy, far from their homes? Go about at once among the host, and speak fairly to them, man by man, that they draw not their ships into the sea." Minerva was not slack to do her bidding. Down she darted from the topmost summits of Olympus, and in a moment she was at the ships of the Achaeans. There she found Ulysses, peer of Jove in counsel, standing alone. He had not as yet laid a hand upon his ship, for he was grieved and sorry; so she went close up to him and said, "Ulysses, noble son of Laertes, are you going to fling yourselves into your ships and be off home to your own land in this way? Will you leave Priam and the Trojans the glory of still keeping Helen, for whose sake so many of the Achaeans have died at Troy, far from their homes? Go about at once among the host, and speak fairly to them, man by man, that they draw not their ships into the sea." Ulysses knew the voice as that of the goddess: he flung his cloak from him and set off to run. His servant Eurybates, a man of Ithaca, who waited on him, took charge of the cloak, whereon Ulysses went straight up to Agamemnon and received from him his ancestral, imperishable staff. With this he went about among the ships of the Achaeans. Whenever he met a king or chieftain, he stood by him and spoke him fairly. "Sir," said he, "this flight is cowardly and unworthy. Stand to your post, and bid your people also keep their places. You do not yet know the full mind of Agamemnon; he was sounding us, and ere long will visit the Achaeans with his displeasure. We were not all of us at the council to hear what he then said; see to it lest he be angry and do us a mischief; for the pride of kings is great, and the hand of Jove is with them." But when he came across any common man who was making a noise, he struck him with his staff and rebuked him, saying, "Sirrah, hold your peace, and listen to better men than yourself. You are a coward and no soldier; you are nobody either in fight or council; we cannot all be kings; it is not well that there should be many masters; one man must be supreme- one king to whom the son of scheming Saturn has given the sceptre of sovereignty over you all." Thus masterfully did he go about among the host, and the people hurried back to the council from their tents and ships with a sound as the thunder of surf when it comes crashing down upon the shore, and all the sea is in an uproar. The rest now took their seats and kept to their own several places, but Thersites still went on wagging his unbridled tongue- a man of many words, and those unseemly; a monger of sedition, a railer against all who were in authority, who cared not what he said, so that he might set the Achaeans in a laugh. He was the ugliest man of all those that came before Troy- bandy-legged, lame of one foot, with his two shoulders rounded and hunched over his chest. His head ran up to a point, but there was little hair on the top of it. Achilles and Ulysses hated him worst of all, for it was with them that he was most wont to wrangle; now, however, with a shrill squeaky voice he began heaping his abuse on Agamemnon. The Achaeans were angry and disgusted, yet none the less he kept on brawling and bawling at the son of Atreus. "Agamemnon," he cried, "what ails you now, and what more do you want? Your tents are filled with bronze and with fair women, for whenever we take a town we give you the pick of them. Would you have yet more gold, which some Trojan is to give you as a ransom for his son, when I or another Achaean has taken him prisoner? or is it some young girl to hide and lie with? It is not well that you, the ruler of the Achaeans, should bring them into such misery. Weakling cowards, women rather than men, let us sail home, and leave this fellow here at Troy to stew in his own meeds of honour, and discover whether we were of any service to him or no. Achilles is a much better man than he is, and see how he has treated him- robbing him of his prize and keeping it himself. Achilles takes it meekly and shows no fight; if he did, son of Atreus, you would never again insult him." Thus railed Thersites, but Ulysses at once went up to him and rebuked him sternly. "Check your glib tongue, Thersites," said be, "and babble not a word further. Chide not with princes when you have none to back you. There is no viler creature come before Troy with the sons of Atreus. Drop this chatter about kings, and neither revile them nor keep harping about going home. We do not yet know how things are going to be, nor whether the Achaeans are to return with good success or evil. How dare you gibe at Agamemnon because the Danaans have awarded him so many prizes? I tell you, therefore- and it shall surely be- that if I again catch you talking such nonsense, I will either forfeit my own head and be no more called father of Telemachus, or I will take you, strip you stark naked, and whip you out of the assembly till you go blubbering back to the ships." On this he beat him with his staff about the back and shoulders till he dropped and fell a-weeping. The golden sceptre raised a bloody weal on his back, so he sat down frightened and in pain, looking foolish as he wiped the tears from his eyes. The people were sorry for him, yet they laughed heartily, and one would turn to his neighbour saying, "Ulysses has done many a good thing ere now in fight and council, but he never did the Argives a better turn than when he stopped this fellow's mouth from prating further. He will give the kings no more of his insolence." Thus said the people. Then Ulysses rose, sceptre in hand, and Minerva in the likeness of a herald bade the people be still, that those who were far off might hear him and consider his council. He therefore with all sincerity and goodwill addressed them thus:- "King Agamemnon, the Achaeans are for making you a by-word among all mankind. They forget the promise they made you when they set out from Argos, that you should not return till you had sacked the town of Troy, and, like children or widowed women, they murmur and would set off homeward. True it is that they have had toil enough to be disheartened. A man chafes at having to stay away from his wife even for a single month, when he is on shipboard, at the mercy of wind and sea, but it is now nine long years that we have been kept here; I cannot, therefore, blame the Achaeans if they turn restive; still we shall be shamed if we go home empty after so long a stay- therefore, my friends, be patient yet a little longer that we may learn whether the prophesyings of Calchas were false or true. "All who have not since perished must remember as though it were yesterday or the day before, how the ships of the Achaeans were detained in Aulis when we were on our way hither to make war on Priam and the Trojans. We were ranged round about a fountain offering hecatombs to the gods upon their holy altars, and there was a fine plane-tree from beneath which there welled a stream of pure water. Then we saw a prodigy; for Jove sent a fearful serpent out of the ground, with blood-red stains upon its back, and it darted from under the altar on to the plane-tree. Now there was a brood of young sparrows, quite small, upon the topmost bough, peeping out from under the leaves, eight in all, and their mother that hatched them made nine. The serpent ate the poor cheeping things, while the old bird flew about lamenting her little ones; but the serpent threw his coils about her and caught her by the wing as she was screaming. Then, when he had eaten both the sparrow and her young, the god who had sent him made him become a sign; for the son of scheming Saturn turned him into stone, and we stood there wondering at that which had come to pass. Seeing, then, that such a fearful portent had broken in upon our hecatombs, Calchas forthwith declared to us the oracles of heaven. 'Why, Achaeans,' said he, 'are you thus speechless? Jove has sent us this sign, long in coming, and long ere it be fulfilled, though its fame shall last for ever. As the serpent ate the eight fledglings and the sparrow that hatched them, which makes nine, so shall we fight nine years at Troy, but in the tenth shall take the town.' This was what he said, and now it is all coming true. Stay here, therefore, all of you, till we take the city of Priam." On this the Argives raised a shout, till the ships rang again with the uproar. Nestor, knight of Gerene, then addressed them. "Shame on you," he cried, "to stay talking here like children, when you should fight like men. Where are our covenants now, and where the oaths that we have taken? Shall our counsels be flung into the fire, with our drink-offerings and the right hands of fellowship wherein we have put our trust? We waste our time in words, and for all our talking here shall be no further forward. Stand, therefore, son of Atreus, by your own steadfast purpose; lead the Argives on to battle, and leave this handful of men to rot, who scheme, and scheme in vain, to get back to Argos ere they have learned whether Jove be true or a liar. For the mighty son of Saturn surely promised that we should succeed, when we Argives set sail to bring death and destruction upon the Trojans. He showed us favourable signs by flashing his lightning on our right hands; therefore let none make haste to go till he has first lain with the wife of some Trojan, and avenged the toil and sorrow that he has suffered for the sake of Helen. Nevertheless, if any man is in such haste to be at home again, let him lay his hand to his ship that he may meet his doom in the sight of all. But, O king, consider and give ear to my counsel, for the word that I say may not be neglected lightly. Divide your men, Agamemnon, into their several tribes and clans, that clans and tribes may stand by and help one another. If you do this, and if the Achaeans obey you, you will find out who, both chiefs and peoples, are brave, and who are cowards; for they will vie against the other. Thus you shall also learn whether it is through the counsel of heaven or the cowardice of man that you shall fail to take the town." And Agamemnon answered, "Nestor, you have again outdone the sons of the Achaeans in counsel. Would, by Father Jove, Minerva, and Apollo, that I had among them ten more such councillors, for the city of King Priam would then soon fall beneath our hands, and we should sack it. But the son of Saturn afflicts me with bootless wranglings and strife. Achilles and I are quarrelling about this girl, in which matter I was the first to offend; if we can be of one mind again, the Trojans will not stave off destruction for a day. Now, therefore, get your morning meal, that our hosts join in fight. Whet well your spears; see well to the ordering of your shields; give good feeds to your horses, and look your chariots carefully over, that we may do battle the livelong day; for we shall have no rest, not for a moment, till night falls to part us. The bands that bear your shields shall be wet with the sweat upon your shoulders, your hands shall weary upon your spears, your horses shall steam in front of your chariots, and if I see any man shirking the fight, or trying to keep out of it at the ships, there shall be no help for him, but he shall be a prey to dogs and vultures." Thus he spoke, and the Achaeans roared applause. As when the waves run high before the blast of the south wind and break on some lofty headland, dashing against it and buffeting it without ceasing, as the storms from every quarter drive them, even so did the Achaeans rise and hurry in all directions to their ships. There they lighted their fires at their tents and got dinner, offering sacrifice every man to one or other of the gods, and praying each one of them that he might live to come out of the fight. Agamemnon, king of men, sacrificed a fat five-year-old bull to the mighty son of Saturn, and invited the princes and elders of his host. First he asked Nestor and King Idomeneus, then the two Ajaxes and the son of Tydeus, and sixthly Ulysses, peer of gods in counsel; but Menelaus came of his own accord, for he knew how busy his brother then was. They stood round the bull with the barley-meal in their hands, and Agamemnon prayed, saying, "Jove, most glorious, supreme, that dwellest in heaven, and ridest upon the storm-cloud, grant that the sun may not go down, nor the night fall, till the palace of Priam is laid low, and its gates are consumed with fire. Grant that my sword may pierce the shirt of Hector about his heart, and that full many of his comrades may bite the dust as they fall dying round him." Thus he prayed, but the son of Saturn would not fulfil his prayer. He accepted the sacrifice, yet none the less increased their toil continually. When they had done praying and sprinkling the barley-meal upon the victim, they drew back its head, killed it, and then flayed it. They cut out the thigh-bones, wrapped them round in two layers of fat, and set pieces of raw meat on the top of them. These they burned upon the split logs of firewood, but they spitted the inward meats, and held them in the flames to cook. When the thigh-bones were burned, and they had tasted the inward meats, they cut the rest up small, put the pieces upon spits, roasted them till they were done, and drew them off; then, when they had finished their work and the feast was ready, they ate it, and every man had his full share, so that all were satisfied. As soon as they had had enough to eat and drink, Nestor, knight of Gerene, began to speak. "King Agamemnon," said he, "let us not stay talking here, nor be slack in the work that heaven has put into our hands. Let the heralds summon the people to gather at their several ships; we will then go about among the host, that we may begin fighting at once." Thus did he speak, and Agamemnon heeded his words. He at once sent the criers round to call the people in assembly. So they called them, and the people gathered thereon. The chiefs about the son of Atreus chose their men and marshalled them, while Minerva went among them holding her priceless aegis that knows neither age nor death. From it there waved a hundred tassels of pure gold, all deftly woven, and each one of them worth a hundred oxen. With this she darted furiously everywhere among the hosts of the Achaeans, urging them forward, and putting courage into the heart of each, so that he might fight and do battle without ceasing. Thus war became sweeter in their eyes even than returning home in their ships. As when some great forest fire is raging upon a mountain top and its light is seen afar, even so as they marched the gleam of their armour flashed up into the firmament of heaven. They were like great flocks of geese, or cranes, or swans on the plain about the waters of Cayster, that wing their way hither and thither, glorying in the pride of flight, and crying as they settle till the fen is alive with their screaming. Even thus did their tribes pour from ships and tents on to the plain of the Scamander, and the ground rang as brass under the feet of men and horses. They stood as thick upon the flower-bespangled field as leaves that bloom in summer. As countless swarms of flies buzz around a herdsman's homestead in the time of spring when the pails are drenched with milk, even so did the Achaeans swarm on to the plain to charge the Trojans and destroy them. The chiefs disposed their men this way and that before the fight began, drafting them out as easily as goatherds draft their flocks when they have got mixed while feeding; and among them went King Agamemnon, with a head and face like Jove the lord of thunder, a waist like Mars, and a chest like that of Neptune. As some great bull that lords it over the herds upon the plain, even so did Jove make the son of Atreus stand peerless among the multitude of heroes. And now, O Muses, dwellers in the mansions of Olympus, tell me- for you are goddesses and are in all places so that you see all things, while we know nothing but by report- who were the chiefs and princes of the Danaans? As for the common soldiers, they were so that I could not name every single one of them though I had ten tongues, and though my voice failed not and my heart were of bronze within me, unless you, O Olympian Muses, daughters of aegis-bearing Jove, were to recount them to me. Nevertheless, I will tell the captains of the ships and all the fleet together. Peneleos, Leitus, Arcesilaus, Prothoenor, and Clonius were captains of the Boeotians. These were they that dwelt in Hyria and rocky Aulis, and who held Schoenus, Scolus, and the highlands of Eteonus, with Thespeia, Graia, and the fair city of Mycalessus. They also held Harma, Eilesium, and Erythrae; and they had Eleon, Hyle, and Peteon; Ocalea and the strong fortress of Medeon; Copae, Eutresis, and Thisbe the haunt of doves; Coronea, and the pastures of Haliartus; Plataea and Glisas; the fortress of Thebes the less; holy Onchestus with its famous grove of Neptune; Arne rich in vineyards; Midea, sacred Nisa, and Anthedon upon the sea. From these there came fifty ships, and in each there were a hundred and twenty young men of the Boeotians. Ascalaphus and Ialmenus, sons of Mars, led the people that dwelt in Aspledon and Orchomenus the realm of Minyas. Astyoche a noble maiden bore them in the house of Actor son of Azeus; for she had gone with Mars secretly into an upper chamber, and he had lain with her. With these there came thirty ships. The Phoceans were led by Schedius and Epistrophus, sons of mighty Iphitus the son of Naubolus. These were they that held Cyparissus, rocky Pytho, holy Crisa, Daulis, and Panopeus; they also that dwelt in Anemorea and Hyampolis, and about the waters of the river Cephissus, and Lilaea by the springs of the Cephissus; with their chieftains came forty ships, and they marshalled the forces of the Phoceans, which were stationed next to the Boeotians, on their left. Ajax, the fleet son of Oileus, commanded the Locrians. He was not so great, nor nearly so great, as Ajax the son of Telamon. He was a little man, and his breastplate was made of linen, but in use of the spear he excelled all the Hellenes and the Achaeans. These dwelt in Cynus, Opous, Calliarus, Bessa, Scarphe, fair Augeae, Tarphe, and Thronium about the river Boagrius. With him there came forty ships of the Locrians who dwell beyond Euboea. The fierce Abantes held Euboea with its cities, Chalcis, Eretria, Histiaea rich in vines, Cerinthus upon the sea, and the rock-perched town of Dium; with them were also the men of Carystus and Styra; Elephenor of the race of Mars was in command of these; he was son of Chalcodon, and chief over all the Abantes. With him they came, fleet of foot and wearing their hair long behind, brave warriors, who would ever strive to tear open the corslets of their foes with their long ashen spears. Of these there came fifty ships. And they that held the strong city of Athens, the people of great Erechtheus, who was born of the soil itself, but Jove's daughter, Minerva, fostered him, and established him at Athens in her own rich sanctuary. There, year by year, the Athenian youths worship him with sacrifices of bulls and rams. These were commanded by Menestheus, son of Peteos. No man living could equal him in the marshalling of chariots and foot soldiers. Nestor could alone rival him, for he was older. With him there came fifty ships. Ajax brought twelve ships from Salamis, and stationed them alongside those of the Athenians. The men of Argos, again, and those who held the walls of Tiryns, with Hermione, and Asine upon the gulf; Troezene, Eionae, and the vineyard lands of Epidaurus; the Achaean youths, moreover, who came from Aegina and Mases; these were led by Diomed of the loud battle-cry, and Sthenelus son of famed Capaneus. With them in command was Euryalus, son of king Mecisteus, son of Talaus; but Diomed was chief over them all. With these there came eighty ships. Those who held the strong city of Mycenae, rich Corinth and Cleonae; Orneae, Araethyrea, and Licyon, where Adrastus reigned of old; Hyperesia, high Gonoessa, and Pellene; Aegium and all the coast-land round about Helice; these sent a hundred ships under the command of King Agamemnon, son of Atreus. His force was far both finest and most numerous, and in their midst was the king himself, all glorious in his armour of gleaming bronze- foremost among the heroes, for he was the greatest king, and had most men under him. And those that dwelt in Lacedaemon, lying low among the hills, Pharis, Sparta, with Messe the haunt of doves; Bryseae, Augeae, Amyclae, and Helos upon the sea; Laas, moreover, and Oetylus; these were led by Menelaus of the loud battle-cry, brother to Agamemnon, and of them there were sixty ships, drawn up apart from the others. Among them went Menelaus himself, strong in zeal, urging his men to fight; for he longed to avenge the toil and sorrow that he had suffered for the sake of Helen. The men of Pylos and Arene, and Thryum where is the ford of the river Alpheus; strong Aipy, Cyparisseis, and Amphigenea; Pteleum, Helos, and Dorium, where the Muses met Thamyris, and stilled his minstrelsy for ever. He was returning from Oechalia, where Eurytus lived and reigned, and boasted that he would surpass even the Muses, daughters of aegis-bearing Jove, if they should sing against him; whereon they were angry, and maimed him. They robbed him of his divine power of song, and thenceforth he could strike the lyre no more. These were commanded by Nestor, knight of Gerene, and with him there came ninety ships. And those that held Arcadia, under the high mountain of Cyllene, near the tomb of Aepytus, where the people fight hand to hand; the men of Pheneus also, and Orchomenus rich in flocks; of Rhipae, Stratie, and bleak Enispe; of Tegea and fair Mantinea; of Stymphelus and Parrhasia; of these King Agapenor son of Ancaeus was commander, and they had sixty ships. Many Arcadians, good soldiers, came in each one of them, but Agamemnon found them the ships in which to cross the sea, for they were not a people that occupied their business upon the waters. The men, moreover, of Buprasium and of Elis, so much of it as is enclosed between Hyrmine, Myrsinus upon the sea-shore, the rock Olene and Alesium. These had four leaders, and each of them had ten ships, with many Epeans on board. Their captains were Amphimachus and Thalpius- the one, son of Cteatus, and the other, of Eurytus- both of the race of Actor. The two others were Diores, son of Amarynces, and Polyxenus, son of King Agasthenes, son of Augeas. And those of Dulichium with the sacred Echinean islands, who dwelt beyond the sea off Elis; these were led by Meges, peer of Mars, and the son of valiant Phyleus, dear to Jove, who quarrelled with his father, and went to settle in Dulichium. With him there came forty ships. Ulysses led the brave Cephallenians, who held Ithaca, Neritum with its forests, Crocylea, rugged Aegilips, Samos and Zacynthus, with the mainland also that was over against the islands. These were led by Ulysses, peer of Jove in counsel, and with him there came twelve ships. Thoas, son of Andraemon, commanded the Aetolians, who dwelt in Pleuron, Olenus, Pylene, Chalcis by the sea, and rocky Calydon, for the great king Oeneus had now no sons living, and was himself dead, as was also golden-haired Meleager, who had been set over the Aetolians to be their king. And with Thoas there came forty ships. The famous spearsman Idomeneus led the Cretans, who held Cnossus, and the well-walled city of Gortys; Lyctus also, Miletus and Lycastus that lies upon the chalk; the populous towns of Phaestus and Rhytium, with the other peoples that dwelt in the hundred cities of Crete. All these were led by Idomeneus, and by Meriones, peer of murderous Mars. And with these there came eighty ships. Tlepolemus, son of Hercules, a man both brave and large of stature, brought nine ships of lordly warriors from Rhodes. These dwelt in Rhodes which is divided among the three cities of Lindus, Ielysus, and Cameirus, that lies upon the chalk. These were commanded by Tlepolemus, son of Hercules by Astyochea, whom he had carried off from Ephyra, on the river Selleis, after sacking many cities of valiant warriors. When Tlepolemus grew up, he killed his father's uncle Licymnius, who had been a famous warrior in his time, but was then grown old. On this he built himself a fleet, gathered a great following, and fled beyond the sea, for he was menaced by the other sons and grandsons of Hercules. After a voyage. during which he suffered great hardship, he came to Rhodes, where the people divided into three communities, according to their tribes, and were dearly loved by Jove, the lord, of gods and men; wherefore the son of Saturn showered down great riches upon them. And Nireus brought three ships from Syme- Nireus, who was the handsomest man that came up under Ilius of all the Danaans after the son of Peleus- but he was a man of no substance, and had but a small following. And those that held Nisyrus, Crapathus, and Casus, with Cos, the city of Eurypylus,

After awhile, do the same with your tongue. Lick up, down and all around. Anywhere above the foot and below the knee is fair game. Lightly nip the ankle of your Aquarian, they may laugh, but it's not laughter from tickles, it's a release of tension that will most definitely lead to some action! Don't talk about other women, or play hard to get, because she will get u back, and it's a game of one-upmanship you will never win. THE BEST WAY TO TURN ON SCORPIO Since this is one of the horniest signs, it makes sense that their moan zone is between their legs! SAGITTARIAN MALE IN BED Even if he's fat, balding and middle aged, he can still pull the chicks. It's his love and pursuit of happiness that draws the babes to him. Think "Austin Powers" baby, yeah! Like I said before, Capricorn has great sexual stamina and the ability to go all night if they want to! FAVE POSITION: Spooning! Goat boys and girls love to take, or be taken from behind. BEST SEX TOY: An office desk to "bond" on, or an erotic video will loosen up the randy goat. CAPRICORN MALE IN BED Imagination isn't a strong suit for Capricorn so don't expect acrobatics in the sack.
