Easy points--What do you think of when you think of Australia? International people of course. So when someone mentions Australia what do you picture? Deserts? Country? Cities? Beaches? Farms? I've lived in most parts Australia like the rural areas, the cities, the farms, the beaches and the tourist areas but I was wondering what everyone else pictures it would look like or simply what comes to mind. Can you explain Broome, Australia to me? I have this picture of the beach in Broome, Australia, but I've never even been in the southern hemisphere. Does the desert meet the ocean? Traveling abroad to Australia in a year! I have been thinking about University of Sunshine Coast? So like I said I am going to be traveling abroad next February to Australia.. and I have been really considering attending University of Sun Shine Coast. AM I FAT? (Pictures included)? It's just been winter in Australia here and it's coming into summer now. I've put on a few kilos over the winter.. I feel so gross and depressed. I'm a size 12 now and I use to fit into size 10. My friends are all going to the beach and look amazing, yet I look so average. I need some constructive criticism. I have a few physical disabilities and injuries which means I cannot run or do exercise every day (I need to take 24-48 hours rest between cardio-exercise periods). Help! I have sand in my camera!? Right so my mum bought me my camera for my birthday because we were off to Australia for the holidays and she wanted me to take pictures! We all know the beach is one of the main Australian attractions, and so naturally my camera was one of the passengers in my bag. I just charged it and when I clicked it on it suddenly went wrong. As the zoomy thing came out it made a grating sound like it had sand in it. Then, the lens wasn't very focussed. RAINFOREST: If you only had one day to spend in San Jose, Costa Rica? If you only had one day to spend in San Jose, Costa Rica and wanted to go see the Rainforest, where would you go? I found all the National Parks list for Costa Rica, but really don't know which one to go to. I hear of all the exotic and rare wild life I want to see - the sloths, red macaws, monkeys, etc. in the Rainforest and wish to see these sorts of things even if it is farther. So, what is also the CLOSEST things to do (outside of San Jose City tours) but not just seeing a coffee plantation or butterfly farm? I know about the Arenal Volcano, but what is the best rainforest? (And what is the best rainforest/park to see all the wildlife) And what is the closest rainforest if not the best? I travelled and stayed in the Daintree Rainforest in Australia and LOVE it. I live on a beach in Florida so have no desire to go to a beach since I live on one already, hence why I want to see and take pictures with my nice Canon EOS camera of animals/fauna, etc. in the dense rainforests.

I am applying to Sunderland, I don't know if its any good, but I am only required to do one year to finish up my degree, so that's an advantage for me. Why is my cousin saying this for? she's being mean all of a sudden. (its quite detailed sorry)? hi everyone. im asking this on yahoo answers because i want to know other peoples opinions before i do anything. okay so here goes... Im 18 and have just finished my a levels. sorted out my university place/ accomodation and hopefully everything will go well in september. after years of worrying about exams i have finally got the time to relax and enjoy myself with family and friends. My cousin who is 21 never did her a-levels as she didnt do really well at GCSE's but is working full time and says she's enoying herself. We've alays been close. staying over at each others house, sharing secrets and almost always having fun. but recently she's been making these really sly comments about my looks, my friends and the clothes i wear even reffering to me as a 'slut' because i wore a sleeveless top. I dont know where its coming from but we do live quite far from each other so we only see each other about once a month for a few days. recently i've been going on a lot of trips abroad with my friends, i've been working since i was 16 and saved every penny so i could visit australia, spain and Goa. i put these pictures of my trips on my myspace and she left loads of negative comments saying im dressed like a slut (i wore bikinis on the beach) as it was so hot. i left a comment back saying 'what else do you wear when you go swimming' but i didint hear a reply. im just so confused. we used to get on really when but now she just makes sly comments about everything i do. she is quite pretty and always compets with me. Looking to do some back pack traveling, need tips? Ok so this might get a little long so if you take the time to read it and offer and tips or stories or anything at all I'd appreciate it a ton! So I am looking to do some traveling. I have had some friends recently do the same and by the looks of it they had the times of their lives, some still refuse to come home claiming they are in "paradise". For me I would like to possibly go to Australia for a little bit but what I really want is to eventually make my way to Thailand for a long stay because I hear it is so cheap there is you are smart about it. I have seen pictures of my friends of them living in little tiny hut looking places right on the beach for what they claim is $3 a night. How would I find a place like this. My basic question is how much money would I need to have saved up to spend a solid 3 or maybe more month in Thailand. Im thinking $5000- $6000 could possibly last but again, I really have no idea. I am prepared to live a not so luxury life there, if I have food and all the basics one needs with a beautiful surrounding I will be fine. I really just want to escape life here for a good amount of time and enjoy it. Another question is where about in Thailand is the best place to go, places that are beautiful yet safe. Is there much for hostels in Thailand ( although I would really like to experience living in one of these little bungalows or huts on the beach for a bit). As for Australia from my understanding it a lot more expensive so that is why I would just like to stop there for a few weeks and then just relax in different places in Thailand. My goal so far is going traveling with $5000-6000, but like I said I have no idea how long that could even last me. Please if anyone has tips for me, or stories on their traveling experiences and costs and places etc. I would appreciate it soo much, let me know if some of my ideas seem stupid or anything. I am looking to leave in the next 5-6 months hopefully and like I said, I would like to spend atleast 2 -3 months if not more. Also another thing, would it be worth getting a working visa or w.e you call them incase I'd like to work a little either in Australia or Thailand to make some extra money if I needed to. Looking to travel to Thailand, need tips? Ok so this might get a little long so if you take the time to read it and offer and tips or stories or anything at all I'd appreciate it a ton! So I am looking to do some traveling. I have had some friends recently do the same and by the looks of it they had the times of their lives, some still refuse to come home claiming they are in "paradise". For me I would like to possibly go to Australia for a little bit but what I really want is to eventually make my way to Thailand for a long stay because I hear it is so cheap there is you are smart about it. I have seen pictures of my friends of them living in little tiny hut looking places right on the beach for what they claim is $3 a night. How would I find a place like this. My basic question is how much money would I need to have saved up to spend a solid 3 or maybe more month in Thailand. Im thinking $5000- $6000 could possibly last but again, I really have no idea. I am prepared to live a not so luxury life there, if I have food and all the basics one needs with a beautiful surrounding I will be fine. I really just want to escape life here for a good amount of time and enjoy it. Another question is where about in Thailand is the best place to go, places that are beautiful yet safe. Should I tell him how I feel? Is this worth pursuing? I recently moved from the U.S. to Australia to pursue my postgrad studies. I left behind an ex-boyfriend who I still felt very strongly for but he did not have the same desire to get back together. So off I went. Shortly after arriving here I met this guy (we'll call him Antonio) who I became friends with. I was immediately attracted to him but I was not sure if he was gay as well because my gaydar is occasionally thrown off when meeting Europeans (he is Italian). A month and a half later, we are very good friends and hang out very often. We share deep, intimate conversations and laugh a lot. But nothing physical has happened and feelings have not been explicitly expressed. But there have been signs: we take turns paying for each other, he invited me to eat dinner and watch a movie at his apartment, we spent the whole day at the beach together and he asked someone to take a picture of us in front of a rainbow that appeared after a storm. What straight person does that?! Does this mean that he likes me? I have fallen for Antonio. He makes me happy. I am not sure what to do about this. What are those things at the beach....? Welll... I don't know if this is in every beach, but at the beach I go to there are little ''jelly'' like things you can see when its low tide. There like brown, oval typed shapes at the top them at the bottom there is a "tentacle" type thing. When you see it in the ocean the tentecle is in the sand and you see the oval part above the sand. You can pull it out of the sand easily. Can all you smarticles please answer this mind - boggling QUESTION! has anyone ever seen a mermaid that looks like steve irwin??? i remember years back there was a picture on the front page of a major newspaper that was of a man who found a 13 inch mermaid all curled up into the fetal postion on his tuna sandwich. i'm gonna go fishing for mermaid tomorrow where the san gabriel river goes into seal beach. what kind of bait should I use to catch a mermaid that looks like steve irwin??? Please critique this memoir I'm writing? Thank you. Just read a bit and say what you think...(C.R.) Creative Memoir (October 10 1998) There were the five of us, fresh from drab, rain-washed London, and overwhelmed by our sudden arrival on Australia’s east coast. My parents, harassed by their attempt to juggle three young children and a car full of luggage. My brothers – Freddie aged four and Alex only 18 months, both half asleep and bewildered; then me, the eldest, suddenly wide awake as we leave the car. In my mind I can picture the family, as a passerby would have seen us, clustered together by the high metal gate; surrounded by overflowing holiday bags and silent in the sticky night air. The only sounds are Dad struggling with the house keys, and the cicadas’ constant whirring in the background. At six, I have never heard this strange, scratchy tune before and I’m at a loss as to what it could be, yet too tired to bother guessing. Mosquitoes glide effortlessly over our heads, gently brushing our faces. The humidity makes it hard to breathe. Ahead, the house looms out of the dark and in my imagination its bright yellow face glows slightly in welcome. The cloying scent of dying flowers, sand and paint all mixed together hits me in the face as an afterthought, as we each step cautiously inside. Though we don’t know it, this single visit will be the first of countless others. When I woke up the next morning, strips of glaring light were poking through the gaps in the worn blue shutters, and a new noise had merged with the droning cicadas – the sea! My room had lemon-coloured walls, and the floor’s terracotta tiles felt rough and unfamiliar on my bare feet. It smelt of salt water and sand, as though you were already outside, and I ran out to wake the others up – as though it were Christmas. Upstairs there was a narrow balcony, that jutted out to give a view of the beach that was beyond the cracked road, just outside the house. Peering out from between the rungs of the balcony, it was completely deserted. If I squinted I could see flecks of spray flying up over the rocks – the sea’s irresistable appeal. Beyond the road outside the house there was a rocky cliff that led to the shore. That first day, we recklessly tumbled down the rocks to land on fine sand, which was as yellow as a rubber duck and so soft your feet sunk right into it and left deep prints – proper sand, worthy of any travel brochure advert. As we stood there, the sea gently lapped the shore, tugging at your toes as if teasing, hissing playfully like an old cat. Palm Beach seemed enormous; our whole world existed within boundaries that were actually very narrow. The corners of our territory were the Beach, the Lighthouse, the Pier and the Park, as in our minds they were the most important places. The beach was to become our second home over the next few years, but it still managed to retain its novelty. Our daily trips there were executed with military precision, as though we were on an important mission somewhere far away. In reality, the walk took two minutes, but when you are six that seems forever. We three children would trudge doggedly through the stifling heat, sandals stirring up dust, dragging so much equipment we looked part of a strange circus act – surf boards, buckets, spades, a multicoloured cascade of arm bands. The kookaburras would be laughing derisively at us, always out of sight yet rarely silent. Our parents languidly followed with the sun-cream and towels. Once there, everything was immediately dumped at the high-tide mark and Freddie and I would race into the sea. Alex, the chubby toddler, would waddle after us calling plaintively, wearing so many floats he could hardly move, his pink skin coated in a thick layer of cream. We would swim as far out as we dared, out to touch the side of one of the moored boats tethered to a carrot coloured buoy. I would swim until my eyes stung with salt, and fingers went apricot-wrinkly. Or perhaps we would go beach-combing, and find unconventional treasures: bleached bones of driftwood; cuttlefish; tangled masses of rope and tiny intricate shells, the size of fingertips. Or instead we could try digging back to England, through the damp sand with plastic spades. I always believed it would be possible, if only we dug long enough – but before long the sea would cheat us and sneak up to obscure our work. Instead, we could run races up the beach to stay dry, up to the storm-water drain and back. A trail of prints in the white-powder sand at hight-tide marked our paths in these races. I always tied with Dad. By the time I was old enough to win, we’d be back in England. There was so much for us to do, and every day was full of new possibilities. A couple of times we went to sit on the rocks when the tide was high up, to try ‘proper’ fishing, Alex inevitably getting tangled up in the line or dropping bait in the water. The fish we caught were never worth keeping, but the

Light skin/dark hair = foreign/exotic/mysterious. Agree? Disagree? I have light skin, naturally dark brown/black hair, and brown eyes with black eyelashes and dark eyebrows. I am a 21 yo Caucasian female from Australia. Although I have lived here my entire life I am often asked where I am from... for years I couldn't understand why people asked. I have recently decided I must look foreign or exotic. Blonde or lightened or highlighted hair is very popular with girls in Australia, and so is the whole blue contacts/fake tan thing probably due to our 'beach culture'. Anyway I've figured that I must look foreign/exotic/mysterious otherwise people wouldn't comment on my appearance. What do you think this dream means? Do you think I could be psychic? Okay so I have had dreams like this before that actually have happened in real life. Like I had a dream that I was standing on a cliff and someone pushed me off. Then I found out that someone was pushed off a cliff in Australia (that's where I live) Then I had another one where me and my sister were in the woods and she was murdered. Then in real life someone in Australia was murdered in the woods. And those dreams what I have feel so real and I can't even tell I'm dreaming until I wake up out of breath and scared to death. I'm 13 and it really freaks me out :L So this was the dream I had was; I was at the beach and a little girl was standing on a cliff and about to jump off and I was yelling at her not to jump and then I started sprinting up the cliff then I looked up and the girl had already jumped and then a white light came and the picture sifted. And then a guy broke into my house and kill my mom. Then the white light came again and the picture shifted, and I was in a field with my best friend and she had a gun and said "I'm sorry Tara but I have to do this" then she shot me, then I woke up. I talked to my sister about this and she thinks that I am a little psychic and that the white light in my dream represents death and that someone close to me is going to betray me- that would explain the best friend dream- but i don't know about the other too :) Oh and the dreams were all in one and were connected by the white light :) A little help please? Why are most poems so depressing? It's almost Summertime and the night sky is bright, The stars form shapes that glow in the moonlight, With a picture frame I capture the true essence, Of happiness and what it means to learn a lesson. I hold onto a kite as the blue skies swallows it whole, The clouds move all in slow motion all in one row, While the ocean makes crisps sounds almost like laughter, And the sand that I run on as I'm chasing after her. Her smile is the sum that continues to light the darkness, That had taken over my past but her heart I caress, Australia is beautiful this time of year I wish you could see, What it is that this beach really means to me. The surf is magniciant the waves are like buildings, The only difference is that this is nature not concrete, The smell of freah lawn brings me back to where I belong, Sitting by the water drinking and playing songs. Help with honeymoon ideas?? please? okay...i live in australia... we're getting married next november and im thinking about the honeymoon (yes i know it might be too soon but i need ideas)... i can picture what i want.... completely alone on an island in a little bungalow of our own, you can walk straight out on to the beach.... i want to be far enough away from civilisation to FEEL alone but not actually be alone...a place for supplies, meals, i dont think we'll be eating much though hehe also for that reason, i dont want it to be overly expensive... is there anyway we could do this for say $5,000 (preferably under), i was thinking 2 weeks away Is two weeks a normal time for a honeymoon? sorry VERY new to this hehe Thank you

Ahh what do I do I really don't want to go I'm being used and I hate it? OK so in the holidays (next week for Australia :) my family and I, that being my mum, brother, aunt, uncle and 2 cousins..Dad's not in the picture. :( are going to Hardwick Bay to stay in this shack thing, its secluded and about 10 km from the nearest town, and across the road from the beach. Well thats all well and good but my brother and I just don't get along with our aunt and uncle, they gang up on us, attempt to hit us they're only joking but it's really scary and annoying, they call us names gay etc which we are not, make nasty comments on our hair etc etc, tell us off for things we didn't do or is none of their business, when their kids do something it's SOMEHOW our fault and they say things to us that are seriously out of line like when my uncle called me a b i t c h over a photograph. Also today my mum, brother and I were talking about packing because on firday my brother and I are seeing our dad for the first time in two years then we're leaving for Hardwick Bay the next morning. Well anyway Mum said that we had to go because my uncle had offered it to us as it was a birthday present. He doesn't deserve it if you ask me but no-one ever bothers to listen to me. Anyway (again) Mum said that we were only going so my brother and I could entertain our cousins, they're 14 and 9 my brother and I are 16 and 14, I'm the youngest. What am I a babysitter? I refuse to be used like that? Maybe they ought to entertain their own kids. My uncle offering the holiday to us isn't from the bottom of his heart he hates me and my brother it's just to use us as babysitters. How do I get out of it? Mum says that we can't stay with Dad coz her and my aunt and uncle have had this planned for ages and Dad will be working and not used to looking after us and bla bla bla! And Mum won't even let us demand to be paid for our babysitting duties. How do I get out of it? Also what are some things I could do to make them not have anything to complain about, prove to them that I can be smart, high acheiving, successful etc?

Should I tell him how I feel? Is this worth pursuing? I recently moved from the U.S. to Australia to pursue my postgrad studies. I left behind an ex-boyfriend who I still felt very strongly for but he did not have the same desire to get back together. So off I went. Shortly after arriving here I met this guy (we'll call him Antonio) who I became friends with. I was immediately attracted to him but I was not sure if he was gay as well because my gaydar is occasionally thrown off when meeting Europeans (he is Italian). A month and a half later, we are very good friends and hang out very often. We share deep, intimate conversations and laugh a lot. But nothing physical has happened and feelings have not been explicitly expressed. But there have been signs: we take turns paying for each other, he invited me to eat dinner and watch a movie at his apartment, we spent the whole day at the beach together and he asked someone to take a picture of us in front of a rainbow that appeared after a storm. What straight person does that?! Does this mean that he likes me? I have fallen for Antonio. He makes me happy. I am not sure what to do about this. The big hook is that his project is over and he is leaving to go back to Italy in 2 and a half weeks. Is it worth telling him how I feel now? I'm afraid a) he is not gay b) he does not feel the same way for me and c) he will feel uncomfortable once I tell and that will be the end of everything. Should I tell him? What's it like in Australia? I live in the States and it's boring here. Every time they show Australia on TV it looks like heaven. I always picture sunny weather and beaches and surfing and kangaroos whenever anybody mentions Australia. Is it really as awesome as it sounds?
